  1. It's just as the lovely Jess said. That $340 is waived if you file the EAD at the same time as AoS. The reason for filing them concurrently is that often, the EAD will be approved before the green card, so you can start working while the AoS is still pending.

Ewan is watching his homeland being defeated at football right now (see what I did there?! I called it "football" instead of "soccer"!). Poor dear. That's why we're going to drink bloody marys for the match against Italy...

  2. Got word from our Lawyer today, we have our interview set up for July 19th, the USCIS website was never updated to reflect anything, so I guess I was worrying over nothing.

    Wish us luck :)

Great news! Only a month until you get to hear those magic words: "congratulations, you're approved!"

Got the email this morning to say that processing has resumed on our case after being transferred to the CSC. What about you, Katie? We were transferred on the same day.

  3. can POE be anywhere or just certain airports?? stupid question but i was just wondering. Hoping to find out more about our VISA tomorrow..paperwork will be in Dublin by noon. sigh....crossing my fingers

Oh and a big congrats to Miss Jess and Tech Moleidy!!!! :D

Any international airport will have CBP facilities, so you would be able to enter there. Basically, any airport to which you can buy a plane ticket from Ireland can be your POE. Good luck, and I hope you get good news on the visa soon.

    LOL - thank you!!

Had a bit of the come-down at the weekend unfortunately. My dad, who just turned 80, collapsed at his birthday party. He's OK, thank god (and thank god I volunteer with St. Johns - not that I was able to do much, but it kept me calm in a sea of total panic!!) - but as this is the 8th time it's happened now, it looks like he won't be able to travel to the wedding to give me away :crying:

So now we're on Plan B, which is - get Jason on a plane in August, non-legal (VERY non-legal!!) ceremony in my dad's back garden so he can still walk me down the aisle :) J's plane ticket at that time of year is going to cost a bloody fortune but I want my dad to be involved so the cost doesn't matter....I haven't told him (my dad) my thoughts yet and I know he's going to be really upset cos he hates the idea of getting old and not being able to do as much, so I'm quite strssed out.

But on the upside, I get to see J sooner than October - and it's an excuse to buy another pretty dress ;)

Jess, I'm sorry to hear about your dad, but it's good news that he's okay. And what a fantastic plan B, really. I hope your dad will react positively to the new plan, I think it will be lovely to have a little thing in the back garden at a place that means a lot to you, with people who you love. Not to mention seeing him sooner AND a pretty new dress!!

  4. well, I guess I'll submit the DS-3025 too. but I only have a copy of the it (given on the medicals). An RFE doesn't really matter at this stage, cause I'm already here, so I don't really care if it takes 2 more weeks.

    Oreo's :Q_ _ _ lol

yay Megan, I hope all goes quick and Ewan can finally go get a job instead of slacking all day at home , lol, I'm being meanie as usual lol, I'm joking ;)

    Mmmm, Oreos! I'm so jealous!

You're not being a meanie - he really is a slacker! He's just lucky he's so cute!

  5. FINALLY received biometrics today!!! YESSS! It's scheduled for July 2, but we will likely try to walk in before that. SO RELIEVED!!! Thanks for keeping me semi-sane guys while I was freaking out :)

    Whew! That's great news!

We were transferred to the CSC, too, on June 8th. We did our biometrics today, and it was sort of an ordeal. We left the house with two hours before the appt time, but due to the rush hour, and trying to find this place I'd never been, it took an hour to get there (and it's only about 12 miles from our house!) Luckily, there was ample free parking on site, but there wasn't enough space in the waiting room, so I had to wait outside the building for an hour while my partner waited in the disorganized line to get his fingerprints and photo taken. Neither of us were impressed with the service (they were pretty rude) or the way the Miami ASC (application support center) was run. BUT hopefully we won't have to trek back there for an interview!

  6. Awwww thanks :) I'm actually not interviewing til Thursday but going down to London town tomorrow night. Packing is the order of the evening tonight - first thing that's going in the suitcase is the visa file!!!

Feeling less nervous today, just can't wait for it to be over :) (and I'm actually quite happy about having a day off work, I'm totally frazzled!!)

Hehe, sorry, my brain got in a bit of a kerfuffle with my family being here over the weekend and then having to go away for work the morning after dropping them at the airport. I hope it went super-well!

    Well......a bit of bad news....sigh :(

Joseph had his interview, all went well except my divorce decree was apparently not a "certified copy", although that is what I requested. So we are approved, pending receipt of the certified copy which I have on its way to me now. I will overnight it to the embassy when it arrives. So overall, its good but more delays......hate delays!!

At least the interview and uncertainty are over. They just need one more thing from you, and you'll be all set. In the home stretch now!

Girls, I phoned NYC this morning ( we are getting married there ) and the woman said all I need is the valid passport and a translated birth certificate, no SSN for NYC ( in case somebody else is getting married there ) . So we are all set and good to go ! :)

And thanks for your help !

    Great! Good news!

I booked my flight today: it's gonna be on June 22nd!!! I still can't believe it's happening!!!:dance::dance:

Awww, congrats! Can't wait until you're here in the US!

  7. Your last entry to the US will be june 28th, cos you are supposed to fill those papers "after" coming to the US and get married ;)

and yes, you should fill these forms with your "after marriage" family name

so if I understand well , I could just send the copy of the DS-3025 – Vaccination record that I got on my K1 visa medicals? I read that some surgeon in SC charge 400$, and in charlotte NC only 25$, or is it the Oreo sandwich that is waiting for me since 2 hours now in the freezer that is making me understand things weirdly :bonk:

    ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, me need break lol

    Re: the DS-3025

We sent ours without having it transcribed. Luckily, Ewan got two "official" copies with the stamp and raised seal, so we sent one of those. I also read somewhere that it should be fine if the box at the bottom with "all vaccinations complete" or language like that is ticked. Ewan's was. So far we haven't had an RFE! We'll keep you updated!

We did biometrics for the AoS and EAD today. It was a bit of an ordeal. We left the house with two hours before the appt time, but due to the rush hour, and trying to find this place I'd never been, it took an hour to get there (and it's only about 12 miles from our house!) Luckily, there was ample free parking on site, but there wasn't enough space in the waiting room, so I had to wait outside the building for an hour while Ewan waited in the disorganized line to get his fingerprints and photo taken. Neither of us were impressed with the service (they were pretty rude) or the way the Miami ASC (application support center) was run. BUT the good news is: Our AoS application was transferred to the CSC for processing, so hopefully we won't have to trek back there for an interview!

  8. Congrats to all who have had interviews and passed!!!

So nervous!! our interview is tomorrow!!!!! wish us luck....:)

Good luck to you today! It will go swimmingly, I'm sure, and we'll have some good news from you soon!

Good luck to our dear Jess for tomorrow, as well! Don't be nervous - you'll knock 'em dead!

@Naddy - Ice cream sammies are the way to go. But when you're ready to dive in to the AoS, don't forget about our Nov. AoS thread that will hopefully give you some answers. Also, of course, don't hesitate to ask anything. But you just got married, and you deserve several days off of hanging out and enjoying married life!

  9. Mega, be the AOS queen again and come help me please

So since I have some time on my hands and also a whole lot to do really, which I should but am not,I thought I will start filling out the easy portions of some of the AOS forms.Ahem!

I know you made it clear, but let me rephrase again.

We finish POE formalities. Then I have read everywhere that you normally wait for 2 weeks for your name and info to be saved in their database. Then we make a trip to the SSA right? So we have sorta bumped up our wedding date,we figured there was no point waiting. So what if my marriage takes place before that 2 week trip to the SSA,and I have applied for a name change, should I go only once then to them?

    I have a ssn already,which I think I will retain right?If I do,then I will simple have to get a new card with the new name reflecting,right?

For some reason, this is confusing me a bit.

Yeah, I think you're right about that, since you already have the number, you should just need to change to reflect the name change. In which case you go after the wedding. It might pay to read through the SS form thingy (I think there's one in the downloads section of VJ) and if it's still unclear, start a thread about it. But your logic seems very sound to me on this, ya know?

And I think I will just stick with these tax papers for the AOS part too.Do not want to bother John or his dad over ordering tax transcripts.

Right on. I was just too lazy to dig through my disorganized stack of papers to find the correct ones.

Ewan's biometrics day is approaching.I am glad its all happening fast and he can be all ready to work too :star:

Yup! I'm a little bit worried that I'll have to go up north for work when he has his appointment (I want to be there to drive him, since bussing in Miami is madness and you can't plan on being somewhere when the bus is supposed to get you there!) but I'm trying to swing it so that I can be around... Thursday morning! I hope it all goes smoothly, too. I'll be back with a full report!

Cannot wait to officially be a part of this forum !

Me, either! It's coming up, and we'll see you soon!

Mrs. D, thanks so much for the above! I feel way more comfortable with our avoiding the "spending the money/time for the civil surgeon to transcribe vaccinations" rigmarole, now :)

  10. Oh and Megan this question is more you.Regarding filing paper work for the AOS part, you said in one of your earlier posts that tax transcripts were the way to go.But is that a must,or does it just make it easier? Can we not sue the same documents we used now for the tax part ?

It's not a must, I just found it a lot easier to send the one page of tax transcript per year as opposed to ten pages of photocopied forms and support documents. The transcripts are free and come super-fast, and then you don't have to go digging through folders to find tax info from 2007 (I'm definitely not an awesome organizational queen like our dear Miss Jess). But either way is acceptable. My dad (co-sponsor) sent copies of his tax forms/documents from last year, so I guess technically we had both ways in there.

  11. It seems like we're the first of May filers that got an RFE. We received it today in the mail. The reason--our page 5 in the I-864 wasn't filled out. That's the page that you list your assets if you're using them to supplement income. We're not using assets and since it says OPTIONAL we didn't fill it out and just sent all the other documentation--tax returns, paystubs, employment letter. I guess we're just going to put zero's in and send it back. I don't know what's more frustrating--the fact that we got an RFE for not putting zero's in an optional section or that we didn't put them there in the first place.

How frustrating! I hope it doesn't cause you too much of a delay. I'm neurotically listing all the things that could result in an RFE for us, and this is another one to add to my paranoia. Seriously, no wonder things take so long and are so expensive to process, if they're sending out RFEs for things like this! :bonk:

Yep, did it today. We just didn't think of it before since we were getting all of his mail - but I talked to the apartment manager today & got permission to put a sticker in the box that has our last name on it (before it just had my maiden name.) Arrgh. I'm kicking myself - really hope that it just hasn't been delivered yet!

Fingers crossed for you! I hope you get it lickety-split! If it doesn't come in the next few days, can you schedule an infopass or something? Is the office close enough to make it worth your while?

  12. And another 2 past the finishing line! Justar and Douglas - don't it feel good! I can feel your radiance from Scotland!

Mrs Megger and Ewan - you two are the new Marie and Pierre Curie, partners in love AND science! Atom splitting fascinating. Did you meet in a lab?

Mr Dog appears to have the cheek of the devil in him tonight. He just told me that he is so excited at the fact that there is now only 26 days left where he has to cook his own dinner and iron his own shirt. He then went on to claim he has booked the local prostitutes motel for our honeymoon. They have recently expanded and you can now rent a trailer for an hour in their car park!

In case any of you fancy this classy joint for your own honeymoon, it's called The H&B Motel, but the cops call it The Hump and Bump. There's romance for ya!

@ Mrs. D: Awww, that Mr. D is such a keeper, eh?! Bring your own sheets!

We did meet in a lab, actually! We were identifying and cataloging bugs, though, rather than splitting atoms. Less chance of either of us dying from radiation exposure this way, I reckon!

Gosh, I'm still lagging behind here. We're still waiting for packet 4.

Congrats on all the approved visas though!

@ Chrissie: You'll get there, sweetie! You're turn is just around the corner! Good on ya for your patience; it will pay off a hundred fold!

We found today my wedding ring :P . Don't have it yet, had to resize it. But will be ready for Friday, wedding on Saturday

@ Naddy: Woo! Congrats on that! I hope you'll show us a picture!

I agree actually. I was REALLY mad at first, but then realised we've gotten lucky on the financial front in other areas, and that ultimately once I get the big YES it won't matter :)

One week to go til V-day for me.....I keep checking and rechecking my Monica-from-Friends style, excessively organised folder just in case I've forgotten something!!

@ Jess : Darling, you are so cute! It's coming up - and don't stress, you'll knock 'em dead!

Exactly. The 'Yes' at the interview is what ultimately matters. Everything else is just a 'hiccup' along the way.

Two weeks for me. I haven't started the physical checking of the folder yet but i run through it in my head.

BTW [everyone]: Is there a 'sticky' list of things that need to be done, people who need to be informed (of whatever... e.g. banks, student loans, 'tax man',...), etc, etc on here?

@ ARWilson: You, too, will be fine! No worries! As for "sticky" list, I don't know of one, but Ewan seems to be having a heckuva time getting his student loan thingies to come here instead of sent to his mum in Oz... Be SURE to come with your birth certificate and a copy of vaccination records. For me, with the bank, I just sent them a little online message thingy when I went to NZ, and that was sufficient for them, it seems. You can wire money to a joint account pretty easily, once you have one.

My family and a few friends from home are coming here to Miami to have a little, casual wedding celebration with us this weekend (before all the oil hits our FL beaches!) which is nice, but a little stressful! I'm baking our "wedding cake" tonight, in preparation for the picnic "reception" on Saturday. Hopefully we can get some nice photos out of it, for posterity's sake

  13. We went today to get a wedding license and the lady asked me for a paper from the SS stating that I don't have a SS number yet

So we went to the SS to ask for that paper, and I guess it was my lucky day cos I could apply for one (I always thought I should wait for after the wedding to be able to apply for one ), and .... apparently, the K1 fiance in SC are allowed to work . So once I get my SS card in 2 weeks, I could start working  .

oh well, bye bye for the 2 month of laziness I was getting ready to :hehe:

That's great that you can start looking right away! It's going to be a party night around here when Ewan finally gets his EAD. He has a job waiting for him here in the same lab where I work, so we'll be together ALL DAY! In a year, I suppose I won't be as excited about that prospect as I am now...

I get my visa in hand tomorrow, according to the embassy courier site! Flights all booked for 28 May! Starting to get really, really excited now. 3 and a half weeks to go!

I have a really, really nasty neighbour here in my street, who has made my life a misery. A monstrous woman, who goes by the name of "Big Evelyn", (she's big and she's also an ignorant bully and totally belongs on the Jerry Springer show). I am currently enjoying plotting (and salivating) at how exactly I am going to say goodbye to her on the morning I leave my home for the last time (at 5.30 in the morning).....snigger....

Yep, 28th June. My visa was delivered this morning. It's like holding the Holy Grail when you finally get it in your hands.

2 weeks still to go till your interview and you're gonna get stung on the visa price hike due to the fault of NCV by sending your file to Dublin by mistake. Doesn't that make you mad?

Mrs. D, congrats on the visa! Close the curtains and have some naughty touching of it, like our dear Anwesha  And I can't WAIT to hear the story of Evelyn's goodbye.

  14. As per item 25 on the I-864 instructions, you are only required to submit the most recent year's tax information (i.e. transcript or photo copy of forms with supporting information), so information from 2007 is not required. They do state, however, that you CAN submit 3 years' worth of tax information if you think it will make your case for sufficient income stronger.

    Form I-864

So if you have a letter from your employer stating your position is permanent or some other indication that you'll be making this income for the next while, tax information from 2007 is somewhat superfluous anyway.

  15. Honestly, you would think we were all riddled with the plague and could unleash a pandemic of foot and mouth disease throughout America if those vaccinations are not transcribed properly! It is absolute nonsense, especially for people from countries which have vaccination requirements for all citizens from birth anyway!

And we hope Ewan has at least done the laundry and cleaned the house when his hunter/gatherer wife returns home at night!

Yeah, seriously! All these plague-ridden immigrants stealin our jobz and such!

Oh, yes, that Ewan's a darling. I think he just worries about not doing the cleaning or the laundry "right," and that I'll get mad at him. Silly puppy... But seriously, he's a right wonderful partner, giving me snuggles when I come home from a long day, pouring me a gin, and putting on "Curb Your Enthusiasm." Such a darlin'.
