  1. I have a biometric appointment letter that I got for good faith marriage application on July 1st at 2:00 pm in Salt Lake City. Does anyone know that I can just go and walk in to have it done? Do I need to be there exactly on 2:00 or can I come like 2 hours earlier?

I have another important thing at the same time but it is not worth it to request a different time.

    Thanks

Yes, other people have walked in. Just show up and tell them you can't make it that day.

  2. 2nd week of diet done... lost 4 lbs so far

I'm doing it the slow way, eating enough calories because of breastfeeding. I feel so much healthier though, just from cutting out all the ####### from my diet. I did have some oreos today after I donated blood though  it was a treat.

    For dinner:

Brown rice seasoned with garlic, onion powder, and a little salt... tilapia fillet and asparagus in a light butter-lemon & parsley sauce... mmmm

Woohoo!! Doing good. Having oreos after giving blood is just good for you. ;) They suggest cookies, right?

Way to go on the 4 pounds!!! Tonight I am doing the 7th day in a row at the gym. Lots going on the weekend after next. I am already starting to feel better and I THINK I look more tone. My husband says he can't tell a difference.

He did go out and buy some cheap exercise equipment to use while I am at the gym. So now he spends about 10 minutes a day doing pushups and assisted situps... interesting. B-)

  3. I understand and agree with the Law that states you should have the GC with you at all times. But a valid, REAL driver license, a copy of your GC and of your unexpired foreign passport shoould be sufficient for the police to use some common sense. Would they really just arrest you if you have all the docs I mentioned and not the original GC?

I'm hoping driver's license and a photocopy of the GC would work. Why carry your passport everywhere you go unless you use it as ID?

  4. First of all, congratulations!

I think if he has a valid US ID, such as a driver's licence, he should be fine. I never carry my passport or NOA for AOS around. Maybe it's my mistake? Well, so far I have never been pulled over, but I was asked for ID by the cops twice, once out of a club (lots of drunk people) and once just randomly at night as we were walking home from a friend's house nearby (Oh, America...). I never had any problems.

Given the fact that they stole my passport with my J1 visa in 2008 I think I will keep a copy of the GC with me and will carry it only when I travel!

    Any other thoughts?

Legally you are suppose to always have the GC on you. That is part of the uproar about the 'new' Arizona law. It actually just states that federal law must be followed and a non-US citizen must be able to present their authorization to be in the US upon request. I rather keep the GC safe and if for some reason my husband is arrested for not having a GC, be able to take it to the jail and get him out.

I guess I don't understand it very well and I'm probably making assumptions.. I really am unsure, but want to do everything the right way.

In the state of Utah a new law was put into effect on January 1, 2010 you cannot get a driver's license unless you are a legal permanent resident or a citizen. This means no renewals by mail for ANYONE in the next 5 years. Our Canadian friend got a driving privledge card with his K-1 I-94, but it expires when the I-94 does and he will have to get the GC and go back for a REAL driver's license soon.

  5. We got the GC in the mail yesterday. It was dated May 13th. That means we can apply on Feb 13 of 2012 for removal of conditions.

Today Dave went down to the social security office and they took his social security card that said "eligible for employment with DHS authorization" and promised to mail him a new card without conditions soon. The woman that called his number had not seen the new greencard and she took it around to all of the employees working there and showed them the new design.

At the Social Security offer there was another man there that had just received his citizenship. When he apologized for not having his greencard on him they laughed and told him that he never had to carry the GC ever again.

Because of the federal wording of the laws, I believe he will always have to carry his greencard on him. I'm wondering if we can just make a photocopy of the front and back for him to put in his wallet so that we can store it in a safe place with our passports. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

  6. Team USA will humiliate England the way they humiliated Spain last year. 3-1

Congrats on the approval!!! I agree, it would be neat if the US beats England!! Although I'm mostly going for the alcohol, I was thinking of wearing a union jack tshirt to the bar tomorrow just to see if anyone would say anything.

  7. I just stumbled into the 2005-2007 ONLY thread because I'm having such a boring day at work. I disagree about taking your worse pain and multiplying it by 1000. The labor pain I had wasn't too much worse than a really bad day of cramps. I was super scared, but wouldn't take an IV or anything major. They handed me a packet of OTC Motrin and a packet of OTC Extra Strength Tylenol. I told them pretty much to F### off and leave me the F### alone. Sorry for the medical professionals, but it's kind of my method of coping when I'm in a hospital. I had much less pain with them not bothering me. ;)

  8. (I was being facetious, and trying to avoid further scorn being heaped upon us. Gary is still whingeing about us over there, completely unprovoked. We are apparently "the chosen people"!)

Doesn't it feel great for him to think you're so special? :luv:

  9. Wait a minute.

According to the guides on this here site, I had the impression we needed to get the I-693 filled out by a civil surgeon and signed.

But then I look on the forum and there is a FAQ and it says:

Can someone please explain what the first one means, then?

What does the vaccination sheet that Knightbridge gave you have on it? If everything is complete then you do not need to pay a CS to fill out Part 5 of the I-693. We had the extra two shots my husband needed done at a clinic with my insurance for the $20 copay. If you still need shots I recommend the health department or a county health clinic. Then take the records to the CS and usually the assistant will fill out the forms and charge you less than $50.

He didn't get a copy of the DS-3025. What then?

Contact Knightsbridge and the UK GP to get any and all vaccination records.

    Good luck!

  10. Does anyone on here happen to come from the Southern Oregon area and know where the cheapest place is to go?

One of the people in the June 2009 K-1 threads posted this:

    http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/257785-civil-surgeon-fees-in-seattle-area/page__p__3956343__fromsearch__1entry3956343

He was in Seattle and plenty of people made suggestions for seattle and I believe even Southern Oregon. Good luck!

  11. Its sad that Ace Pub is no more! That was a true cider pub that also carried random things like abbot ale etc.

What about the Pig and Whistle?

Isn't the Pig and Whistle in Vancouver, BC? I walked past some bar with that kind of name in Vancouver just as a patty wagon was pulling up - going the wrong way on a one way street! Then a bunch of cops went running in to break up a brawl. If I hadn't of been underage I probably would have been there participating in the melee.

  12. I'm not saying don't excercise or don't be active. I'm saying build it up slowly. Don't go from sitting in the office, followed by sitting in the car, followed by sitting on the couch, to a spinning class. It's not good for you. Build up slowly is all I'm saying.

Ohh.. spinning class... :girlwerewolf2xn: Yeah...I wouldn't wish that on anybody.

MODERATE exercise is what I'm trying to get into the habit of doing. I'm aiming for hard enough that I can't hold a conversation, but not so bad that I get chest pains or dizzy. :dead:

Not that I do it, but even walking can be mild-moderate and at least it's an excuse to get away from the desk. I have a reminder set in Outlook to go walk up and down the stairs twice a day... doesn't always happen!

  13. no need to give 5 year olds cookies.

I'm with you Alan, the thing about going on a big exercise kick, is that if you stop it, with the possible exception of weight lifting, you are sure to gain back more than you lost. It's been proven many times over. Same goes for cutting out a bunch of food all of a sudden, your body thinks there's a famine going on, and uses less, stores more. Not the desired result. Best to slowly decrease intake, gradually add more moving about. Doesn't feel as satisfying as the 'Will be healthy starting Monday' approach, but works much better in the long run.

Alternatives include falling in love, having your heart broken, joining the army, having your entire country endure rationing or drought or calamity.

I disagree. Usually if I stop after a 2 months exercise kick I drop weight.. because my muscles disappear. An exercise kick is exactly what some people need to start realizing they should take better care of themselves and get some good habits started

  14. Thx! Yeah I thought so too...I mean, it is what it is...it's certainly not baby dior, but how fast they grow, you need some throwaway outfits.

One thing about buying inexpensive clothes that peeves me to no end is when they don't match up the pattern on the seams and button areas. On that middle set, you can see they at least lined up the front to flow properly, so I was impressed. Shoulders? Not so much....but most of the seams on everything line up too.

Yeah.. but babies are USUALLY so cute that noone cares if their clothes are perfect. ;) Plus they ####### and puke on them anyways, so why put the extra money into the $50 outfits..

  15. Hello fellow March fillers, could you help me out? I am new on this forum, I hope people can help me with my situation because I am sooo anxious.

In 2007, my then employer filled an EB3 140/485 package for me, which of course has been stuck in a backlog for a while, however I have been able to use the EAD and advance parole from that application since 2007 (I was previously using H1b). fast forward to may 2009, I got married ot a US citizen and I decided to file another AOS in March this year, so we submitted I130 and I485, and everything went lighting fast, we got called for our interview on May 25th in Baltimore, and the IO was really nice and said she would recommend us for approval, that her supervisor had to sign off and we will get our approval notice in the mail within 3 days. She did not even mention anything about my EB3 application, but she took my I94 card.

On the website, I saw that the I130 was the only thing getting updated post interview and the I485 had not been touched since the week before the interview. On June 1, my husband received the approval notice for the I130 but nothing (email or postal mail) has come for the I485 and I am so anxious. Has anyone been in this sort of situation or know anyone who has gone through this? Please share your thoughts and suggestions because I dont want to go through the reneal process of my EAD and Ap docs anymore, I just want to move on past this immigration forms for a while

I'm not sure... Most of us on this thread and the forum "Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from Family Based Visas" came or brought our spouse on K1s. There might be people here that know about the type of visa you came on, but if you get no replies there is another forum just below ours that are people adjusting from School and Work visa.

    Good luck!!

  16. I'm jealous you have another UK/US couple to hang out with

I wish we had a UK/US couple nearby too!! We did find a US/Canadian couple that are pretty cool and have had BBQs with them.

We're near SLC and always up for a drink if anyone is near. We haven't tried many of the Irish/British places around here, but will as soon as he starts working and have more cash to spend.

I have started calling around to 'pubs' here to see if they will have the game on. ABC at noon MST?

  17. I also lost a pound which puts my total weight gain at this point at 11 lbs. Needless to say I am thrilled with that - less to worry about after the fact.

Do you walk everyday? I only gained 25 pounds when I was pregnant. Now I am scared to death that if I ever manage to get pregnant again I will gain 80 pounds. It happens.. :P

Yay for you seeing the finish line soon!!

  18. You can of course pipe in Jewel! Though we may put you off the idea of a baby if we keep it up.

Had one right out of high school. I want at least one more when the time is right. I keep asking the hubby what would happen if we had twins and his face goes white.

Other than that, I'm almost jealous of you preggos. ;) But being excited for you all is more fun.
