  1. It's okay about the day, because Sunday here is just like Tuesday in our regular calendar. Because the week starts on Saturday not Monday.

What I am worried about is that, maybe, once I get there they might not honor the e-mail I got from one of their employees.

I believe the letter that came from the NVC is the most valid to show that you have an interview on that date.

Anyhow, I am going to Riyadh today after my work, and stay there until 25 of January just incase they will tell me that my interview is not 24 but 25, I will not have problem. Dammam is hundreds of kilometers from Riyadh and it will take one hour by plane, 7 hours by bus and 5 hours by train.

Okay, I misunderstood. I thought you were flying to Philippines where office hours are listed as M-F. I see the hours are Sa-Wed in Saudi. Go with letter and confidence. I think you'll be fine. I'm glad you can go today. It's nice to have the option although it is probably quite inconvenient. All this stress and expense over what is very likely a clerical error on the consulate/embassy side. :wow::angry:

  2. I doubt if they want to interview you on a Sunday (24th). I think someone at the embassy made a mistake. The 4 and the 5 are situated right next to each other on the keyboard. I would go on the 25th (Monday) with my letter from the NVC and all other required documents.

I'd be a little worried too though, but not too much. Be confident!

  3. That's the correct address.

It took them almost a full 2 weeks to process my RFE. (12/4 - 12/17).

Then it took almost another 2 weeks for them to assign an interview. The interview date came out of the blue though, because I was prepared to wait until dreaded 'second week of the following month,' which would mean January for us.

The wait was really hard on us. I needed a bunch of distractions. In retrospect, it seems like two minor 2 week bumps in the road, but in reality, each day was a fruitless check-in with the NVC.

The interview date was a complete surprise because, again, it was before the '2nd week of the month,' they quote and in the midst of some major holidays to boot. You're well on track to getting a March interview based on my timeline.

If it's any consolation, this wait for the actual interview is a little better although it is also slow going :clock: ...

I Know it Suck but nothing i can do about it. i called them and they said i can use any coversheet so im using the one that says

    NATIONAL VISA CENTER

    ATT.DR

    31 ROCHESTER AVENUE, STE 100

    PORTSMOUTH, NH 03801-2909

    (BARCODE)

    (Checklist letter response)

    CR1

    (HUSBANDS NAME)

then i put my docmunt cover sheet saying whats inside then the marrige certificate. Ill be sending first thing tomarrow.

She's like it will take 2-3 weeks to review are mail. that just what they say right? it wont be that long correct? I want a March interview :(i hope i dont miss it.

This is the correct address for RFE?

    NATIONAL VISA CENTER

    ATT.DR

    31 ROCHESTER AVENUE, STE 100

    PORTSMOUTH, NH 03801-2909

Thanks sorry for all the questions just wanna be sure.

  4. Someone posted an online Ghanaian food website link on here last year:

    http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...p;mode=threaded

    http://www.ghanaianrecipes.com

*I haven't tried any of the recipes, but they look good to me.

I worry a little about the cooking issue for a few reasons:

    1. I am a worrier.

    2. Pman has a voracious appetite. :o

    3. I only really know how to cook American and Caribbean recipes...

Based on this post, it looks like I have 5 years before Pman notices this quirk. I'll use my time to research Nigerian cuisine or maybe just try to pass these Ghanaian ones off as Nigerian recipes

OP, 5 years is a good long run to have only this minor problem arise. Congratulations are in order!

  5. That is great news

In just 10 days from today too!

    Get ready...

Around 2oclock my time this morning my fiancee called me to let me know that Lagos Consulate called him in second interview January 14,2010. Oh my God God is soo good. They told him to bring additional documents.

  6. Thanks alot for the advice, really appreciate it. Just had some Egusi soup with my hubby.:dance::dance:

Mmm, egusi! You'll be fine Urch... Heat the core, head, hands and feet like NigeriaOrBust says.

I hope you keep a journal while everything is still new and exciting.

After a while, I'm sure you'll be so settled, things will be just regular-life-as-usual.

I intend to do the journaling and scrapbooking for Pman as I'm sure he will not do either

  7. Hi there!

    Hubby is here??? CONGRATULATIONS!!! :dance::dance::dance:

I hear it takes about a year to acclimate, so hubby should be 'almost fine' in 9 months. . . unless it happens all at once  .

Plus, so much of life in the US is climate controlled, the heat probably won't be as much of a factor as it is in Nigeria.

Hopefully he will enjoy the little heat he experiences.

    Be well all.

    Happy New Year!

My husband just arrived and he is fussing about southern California weather. I bought some things ahead of time. He is learning about keeping his core warm ( thanks to an Eddie Bauer down jacket ) and the heads, hands and feet. I hate to think of what is will be like by March. From what others say the summers here are hotter than Nigeria but less humid so I image I will hear him talk about the heat in 9 months.
  8. Okay, it looks like you're about 10 degrees warmer than Atlanta today. (56 vs. 46)

I know that doesn't make you feel much warmer, but here's some 'get adjusted' advice I can give to go along with it:

    • Add some layers to your wardrobe. Invest in some long johns which I see at Walmart, Target and even the pharmacy. This of course means all your outerwear will have to be a size bigger to accomodate the 'clothes.'

    • Warm your head up with a hat! Skull caps don't always make you feel so pretty when you're a lady, but they help keep you warm and healthy.

    • Make lots of egusi soup. Send some to Pman's wife; she loves it so much! Again, just keep buying bigger clothes...:rofl:

It takes about a year to get acclimated, but those tips should help in the interim.

Thanks Pman's wife. I am in fort worth, texas. Its cold here and i am still trying to get used to the change in weather. I'll defintely stay in touch and please feel free to ask any questions. I'll be more than willing to answer the much i know.
  9. Hi Urch!

A warm welcome to the United States. I hope it's warm where you are. After you're settled in, I hope you'll stay in touch and tell us about adjusting to life in the US. Maybe you'll be so kind as to give some advice to those of us 'pulling up the rear'.

    Hi All,

Just to let u know that i arrived safely in the US. My POE was houston, it was so easy and simple.

I am with my hubby now and we are sooooooooooooo happy.

Once again, thanks to you all for your words of encouragement, advice, tips and shared experiences.

The journey is not over yet but the great and most important thing is that we are together now.

  10. Thanks for the tips KemKem!

Congratulations and good luck on POE :dance::dance:

    Hey Folks,

Here are the questions asked at the Lagos Consulate for the Visa (not in any particular order).

Be confident, know and practice the interview questions with your significant others and be organized. There is no need to carry mountains of evidence to the embassy. It's not the quantity of the evidence that matters, it's the quality. Call logs, chat logs, pics, email for the last 12 months should suffice. Pictures of the traditional wedding is key if you are both of Nigerian descent. Dress well and be as relaxed as you possibly can given the situation. You want to give the impression that it's not such a big deal (even though we all know otherwise..lol).

Wish you all a very prosperous new year.

Good luck to all and may God bless you all.

    Cheers!

  12. Hi my daughter,

How are you and the kids. Long time no hear! Somebody from the American Embassy came asking for your husband a few minutes ago. I asked for his name after introducing myself as Akin Salawu. He said they dont normally give our identity for security reasons but since I am an old man,he idetified himself as simply Paul.

We had a very lively chat:

    1. I am from the American Embassy. I am looking for one Demola Salawu

-- Yes, he is my son.

    2. Where is he now?

    -- Has gone to work.

    3. Is he married?

    -- Yes

    4. Where is she?

-- In USA. Maines to be very exact.

    5. Did you consent to the marriage?

-- Yes, of course. And we are always in contact by mail. Her name is Michelle but I also gave her a native name 'Gbemisola'.. Please note that he came back 10 minutes after he left to ask for this native name again.

    6. How many times has she visited?

    -- Like 4 times.

    7. Do you have her pictures?

-- Yes. ( I went upstairs and brought my envelope album containing my pictures and yours too). He looked at them. He identified me, mom, Demola and you in the pictures. I asked whether he needed to take one of the pictures away, then he showed me the one he broght with him (showing you and Demola only). He didnt ask for wedding pictures.

.8. Other facts which I volunteered:

    -- Profession: Banker/Computer Scientist

-- Retired from First Bank way back 1992

-- Let him know our property.

Thanks for sharing the questions! They've taken long enough already on this case now. It is nice to see some action on it. I hope they will resolve it soon.

Come on with the approval embassy :ranting:
