  1. When Florence picked up packet 3 and 4 in June, the interview was scheduled for January 2012. We were disappointed by the long wait but at least we had a date. On July 28, Florence got a call from the embassy informing her that the interview was moved up to August 24. I received an e-mail from the embassy confirming this. Very nice. We had to scramble to gather the documents and get her medical exam but she was ready on time. The CO was polite and professional. Her documents included 10 photos, 10 months of phone bills showing lots of calls, three chat sessions, 2 years tax transcripts, bank letter, my divorce decree and all the required forms and other docs. The CO asked for more pictures from my first visit in Nov 2010. Fortunately, she had printed some on her own so she produced them. The CO said all our paperwork was in order and that he believed the relationship was genuine. Approved! He gave her a blue slip with a visa pickup date next month. Florence told me she was very worried because most people were denied that day. I can't wait to see her.

The Visa Journey community was a great help during this process. Thanks

    Congratulations HowardandFlorence

You really zipped through the journey!

I'm glad she'll have a chance to travel before it gets too cold so she can acclimating a little easier than dead on weather.

  2. Hello fellow VJers, my fiance and I have been approved for our K-1 Fiance Visa and he is arriving here in 6 days. I'm looking for ways to help ease his transition to life in the United States. I've researched African Immigrant groups in our state (unfortunately they're limited), as well as places that my fiance can volunteer at until he's able to legally work. Being a teacher, he does not like to sit around and do nothing. I would love to hear any and all advice others can offer from their own experience. Thanks!

Congratulations! In our experience, it takes a while for the culture shock to subside, but it's been fun for the most part. Enjoy it...

  3. I wish to cancel my husbands case. Besides emailing the embassy to let them know not to accept him for an interview if he dares to show up. Do I send a paper letter to the USCIS and NVC? Thanks

Sorry to hear things are going south. It is my understanding that you need to write to the embassy to withdraw your petition. You should follow up with a call to the Department of State to make sure things are in order.

It sounds like you've thought things through thoroughly if not, may I suggest you do so. You have certainly invested lots of time and effort... oh and money to get this far.

    All the best to you.

  4. Hello All at VJ,

I am relieved, happy to report that I am now waking up to the face I love everyday - my husband was finally granted his visa after our marriage of three and a half years, a denial, being reaffirmed, having every problem under the sun happen with our visa journey and also in our personal lives.

    Thank you all...

Wow. What GREAT news! It's been a long time coming and I'm so happy for the favorable outcome.

It got a little crazy there in the end with the illnesses and all, but you MADE it and you DESERVE it. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

...One slip up a lot of people make is even if they are careful about the water they drink they use ice made from unknown sources.

You're so right about the dubious ice sources. You have to be so careful. Usually the people who are native to the area are immune or wise to the bugs, but sometimes stress can adversely affect your immune system too.

  5. My fiance was refused today on the grand that we've been dating for 6 years without marriage. the consulate said " why you not married after dating for 6 years? this relationship is not fake, i am refusing you the visa and sending your case back to u.s" We had every proof ( relationship and engagement pictures, telephone record, bank transfers, letters, e-mails) but she didn't want to see any our prove. i contacted my senator when I first returned from Ghana but she said fiance issue is not her priority.

I don't know what to do! I have cried my eyes swollen, I am so depressed, I can't eat, o my God i am ............

What a horrible senator! I hope you will remember the level of service you received come election time. Every state has 2 senators. Consider giving your OTHER one a call ASAP. Your goal is to try to get your case to remain at the consulate for another go. Something in your case may have ruffled the CO's feathers. With any luck, you can get another chance to have your file re-examined.

    Godspeed!

  6. CR-1s/IR-1s can work right away. The green card automatically comes in a few weeks. They have to apply for the social security card though.

The guide indicates you may receive an EAD (work authorization) stamp at the port of entry, but you STILL need to file the I-765 for the actual EAD card, as the stamp is only good for the first 90 days. Guide may be out of date though. http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1aos

I'm way over my head with all things K-1. The K-1 forum is the best source for up-to-date specifics regarding that visa. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/80-k-1-fiancee-visa-process-procedures/

  7. to people who have contacted there seneter and congrasmen how can i find them and what info do i provide them?

    Thanks.

    Hi MQ,

    I didn't know you were 19 :wow:

    Here ya go: http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm?State=IL

Choose a state and visit both listed senators' webpages. Each will likely provide a form for you to fill out with details regarding your case so they can have something to go off of.
