  1. Angeles City, Pampanga is not so bad. She can get her own studio type apt for 5-6k Php, will have to pay electric and sometimes even water or have a bed spacers for 1-2k all included. It is also not too far from Manila, probably 2-3 hours with traffic. Without traffic, around 1.5-2 hours.

LOL I do not think sending her to a town with 100's of girly bars would be a very good idea, but she could easily get a job, just not on the OP would be happy with.

  2. My fiancee, now in Manila, is at a place where there are bugs, ants, ticks, bed bugs, lice in the hair of the teenager, and fleas. The people she lives with are, to my standards, dirty (I am sorry if this offends anyone). The people are used to these conditions. My finances says this is a squatters place. So, she is getting bitten by bugs, bumps on her, and eventually not going to look good in a medical. Of course her health. This place is close to the Embassy. She has no place else to go, and we do not have money for her to be at a hotel or something. Bed and Breakfast? I could not afford that, and I am currently supporting her now. So I do not know what to do. Any time I mention certain medicines or things I would do in America, it is always "too expensive" to do there. She is getting eaten and if she stays, which does not want to because she is getting rashes on her by bugs, people she interviews for anything will think she is dirty. The people she living with will do nothing.

I do not know what to do for her. She has no place else to go, and we not even have NOA2 yet.

What can she do? Where can she go that is safe? Cheap? Safe and cheap? I can get her maybe (USD) $200-300 a month, but anything else, I will not have for basic needs here. If she lived here, we be under same roof and food, but the government does not care to rush for us it seems.

Any thoughts that could work? Please.

    Thank you.

if you can send her 200/300 a month she can live in a decent boarding house, there are plenty in that area, if she moves a little farther out from Manila there even cheaper, go to the yahoo group MAGANAK, a group of Americans married to Filipina, and many there going through the visa process. There are people on the ground in Manila, and they know some cost places to live.

  3. We were quite anxious while waiting for the letter too.

Just found out this information on USCIS about constitution day and citizenship day ceremonies. Hope this will make the wait a lot shorter :-)

    good.gif Congrats~ so excited for you~~

Ann Marie did hers on 9/17/2013 at Golden Hall, in San Diego, CA, maybe the citzenship day thing was why there were almost 1000 people taking the oath. Due to Citzenship day they allowed folks to go to the 3 day passport office and apply for passport, and we received her new US passport today 9/20/2013 in the mail.

    If was fun

  5. If your fiancée is savvy and confident, she can do it herself. She'll know the drill...money talks.

On the other hand, does your fiancée's family have any connections? The mayor? A town council member? Her barangay captain? These are people who can get things expedited for you.

If you don't have any success with the local civil registrar in her town, then get your marriage license in another town.

Exactly as I had to do it, and the same as mentioned above, the clerk/office manager told me that I needed to do X,Y & Z then 10 days waiting and she added some other BS, basicilly making it as hard to do as possible to get the job done in the timing we needed, it is the same as trying to get anything done in the Philippines. There is more red tape than a town full of Santa Clauses, needing to repair their torn red outfits. (the CFO comes to mind) LOL

We ask for a brief meeting with the Mayor, explained we were on a tight schedule, could meet all the document & seminar requirements, but it needed it to done in parallel, he smilled and said that actually the date we wanted to have the ceremony, he was not avalible, but he would marry on a earlier date, and they would give us the signed license when we presented the needed documents, and met the 10 day. He also instructed the clerk to make sure the completed package was given to us to send to the NSO, in a very short time frame after.

Moral of the story just ask, and a few piso's spread around never hurts, like the seminars, I think back them we needed two different ones, first one we just paid the fee, and they gave the Certificate, the second one was pay the fee, and bring them some Ice Cream.

We did invite the Mayor, and his friend to a nice lunch to help us Celebrate, the upcoming marriage, and became best of friends after.

  6. It appears that some people who are in the same boat as you are getting RFE's.

This issue is well covered in the AOS section of this web site, for us the I-693, cost us $25, and a short visit to aCivildoctor in our neighborhood (not all doctors are willing to do just the I-693 )without doing the exam, there are list in the AOS section of doctors who do by city.

  7. If the tickets were bought outside the Phils for sure the travel tax isn't included, stop by the counter after you enter the airport and pay that, then head to the airline counter and check your bags.

That is not entirely true, I have bought tickets outside of the PI, with Eva & United, and travel tax was included

  8. I have a friend who met a girl, who had overstay her visa in Taiwan, by 5 years or so. Turned herself in and returned home. When they apply (soon) for a K1 visa, one of the documents ask for is countries stayed in last 5 years, and she will note she was in Taiwan. I will guess they will then require a Police background check from Taiwan, where they will I am sure note her overstay. My question is has anyone on the board been through this (other country visa overstay), and was it a problem during the K1 interview process?

    Thanks

  10. This is confusing the %$^ out of me for some reason. One place says the counselling (and interview?) is done at CFO office (where you pick up the sticker now) and no longer done at PRISM and SMEF-COW after July 16th, then states SMEF-COW is still going to still do it until Sep. It also states only 12 people a day for US then later says 70 people a day...

I am sure the OP is correct in the information but I'm completely confused with regard to what, where and when has to be done so my fiancee has checked all of the boxes.

I don't mean to complain, but my brain is burned out from trying to explain the entire process (foreign police clearance, medical, CFO and interview) over the phone with a bad connection lately.

The Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) for Filipino Emigrants is the 70 people a day (a bigger group)

The the Guidance and Counseling Program (GCP) for Filipino spouses / partners of foreign nationals is the 12 per day

  11. the worst is he haven't receive any mail from them as of now, we just checked it online, plus its wrong timing because he will gonna be here in Manila by the 30th of April and if he would not be able to receive it before he come over here in Manila, he probably won't be able to response on the RFE not until he get back :crying:

We also received a RFE, and chances are he will get it before April 30th, and if he has what is needed and sends it right back, you delay will not be too bad, after we responded, approval cam pretty quickly after that.

  12. Hello VJers,

It may be way too early to worry about this but I figure if there are any requirements, I should just as well start working on them, too. I was wondering if anybody had any experience with bringing their pets with them on first point of entry to the US? I'm planning on bringing one or two cats with me.

What are the requirements? Do they hassle you at POE more? Which airlines are pet friendly--allow you to pet carriage as carry-on and with lower fees.

It may be tough for some to understand but I am attached to these creatures. Any animal lovers out there?

The biggest obstacle is they too must do the CFO seminar, and in our case fluffy had a hard time, and had to go back three times before they gave her the certificate. Good Luck

  13. There is a seminar part and an interview part of the process. Note below the "Other documents as may be required by the counselors". Thats where they send some girls home to get more or wait on more documents. Some of the counselors seem to think they are gods to judge and lord over all who come before them. Its like some counselors want to make the girls give up and not leave the country. You might get a nice one, and little is needed, or you can get a bad one who will try to trip her up. The counselor my wife had even asked for my (the USC) SSN. We were prepared as she had my SS card with. She had been warned about that one being asked for at the time she went. She told me afterwards that some women left crying because they were missing things and did not get a certificate or a stamp. Another she talked with was back after getting documents her finance had to send from the USA. Another had to return with her mother because she was under 25. If you're well prepared, I don't think there's much of an issue. But don't take it lightly either. My wife breezed through the embassy interview, they looked at nothing she brought saying the petition included everything they needed to see, but the CFO was a different story. Luckily she had everything under the sun with her.

Also as mine was asked, make sure she knows your underware size LOL, it was truly asked of my then fiancé, during her interview. :o

  14. Our interview is on April 13. I understand it could take up to 2 weeks to get the visa back. I need to be back by the 22nd and would like to have her come with me. Can I expedite, if so, do I file the expedite request now?

Do as many have done in the past explain your situation to the CO, and ask if you can pick it up after it is stamped, and unless they are having a bad hair day, they will most lickely say yes.

  15. I do not need to understand nothing (sorry if sounds rude) First of all he IS NOT AMERICAN. He is a US citizen but he is vietnamese. Secondly, this is not the american way because it is not mandatory for their people here in US to adopt the husbands last name. I am no ones property and I am my parents daughter not his parents daughter.

And I do carry documents in different last names because my passport is in my real name and always will be because I am not planing to be come a citizen...ever

You made some very interesting comments

“he IS NOT AMERICAN” I think for him to be truly “American”, his roots should be from one of the America continents. IE: native American.

“He is a US citizen but he is Vietnamese” I think he cannot be elected as president of the US

“this is not the American way” are you sure about that? , as it does seem to me, that a vast majority of the US citizen couples I know, that got married take on the husband’s last name, and strangely enough, most do not take that to mean they are now “owned” by that person.

“I am not planning to become a citizen” As you passport will remain in you maiden name, a simple divorce will allow you to get your name back without any additional paperwork.

  16. "I can not believe that because I filed the I-129f one month before her anullment was finalize that the embassy would not except our filing of the I-129f"

Believe it, a long time ago they denied mine, and I filed (1) day too early, and that was a mistake in how I counted the days, as it was a California Divorce that required 6 months, after filing to be legally free to marry, so that was time & money down the drain, so you did not fine out about it until the interview.

  19. [font="Franklin Gothic Medium Okay, it is true that he put a wrong total number of house hold size (putting "02" instead of "04"), but hey, his annual income ranges $38K per year. That would be enough for a house hold size of 6.

$38,000, for a household of 6 is kind of tight, I too might shake my head. I guess part of it would depend on where you would live in the US, but it will not be easy, IMHO

  20. Your Fiancee is innocent until she is proven guilty and at this time she really deserves your untiring support.

Sorry to say that there is a sign in the Manila Embassy (visa area), and its meaning is that you are presumed guilty until proven otherwise. (words are a little different, but meaning is clear)
