  1. Ghanagal - you are hilarious! Haven't given much thought to a name - open for discussions and ideas. I spoke with my husband this morning about the idea and he is so on board. I think that makes 4 of us - you, me, Hebronzy, and I think my girl Midge.mij will want to be involved. I will see you each a personal email later today. When we get this going, we can post our efforts on vj. Any more volunteers? Or any ideas for the volunteers?

    I'm in!!!

  2. There is a letter circulating that you can cut & paste to express your irritation at the situation, by hitting Portals for Ghana and read back a week or so, there is a letter that one of us drafted and you can send it off. From what I understand from my inquiries last week with NVC & US Embassy at Accra, is that we are looking at a year or more from the NVC Complete date. Yes, Accra is "extremely backlogged" (per NVC operator) and we need to be prepared for a "long wait". There is nothing more to do...

I am going at the end of June and my husband wants us to go to the Embassy to inquire of the backlog, but I am not wanting to waste any of my precious time while there to fight something that is unwilling to budge. The congressman's office had advised me to just keep going back to visit while we are waiting. "There is noone you can write to or push that can make it go any faster." This is all through the DOS.

So yes, while we are all in the same boat & growing weary from the waiting, at least we have each other & we are able to communicate with our spouses. I do suggest keepiung our congress and DOS informed of our irritation that the wait is excessive, but at lest, pray to God, they still have Visa's to provide Ghana with. They can't deny us forever.....

  3. I was wondering the same thing. My fiance just picked up his packet and got an interview for November 1!

It's frustrating, but at least we have plenty of time to make sure we get the forms right.

    -Jen and Babs

Could you be so kind as to complete a time line for us? If you have a Nov 1 date, how long was your wait in between your approved date & the time you recvd your interview date? How far out are the dates being given? 5-6 months? etc. Thanks

  4. So people, you wouldnt believe what just happened, my fiance got her appointment date to pick up packets 3 and 4...happy as anyone would have been, she went and was told her interview date is 6 months out in Oct..yeah you heard it right!!...6 freaking months out!..Anyway, i know there has to be a way to go about this, so please kee the suggestions and recommendations coming.

In the meantime, i've spoken to my congressman who has asked for the case number, but thats as far as any help ive gotten so far.

Im active duty military, does anyone know if theres a card i can play with that?

Please help and thanks much in advance

Are you going for Fiance Visa or Spousal? I can't believe 6 additional months - I was praying he'd be here b4 October! this is so wrong! Ridiculous even! What is your timeline? When was your case approved at NVC?

  5. I don't think it has been a year...only since Dec of 09. My petition was approved in late Dec so I am there with you. It does take a long time & not sure why...Someone told me it is because they only do it on Wednesdays. As far as I can tell it takes approximately 4-6 months from approval for an interview, and about 30 weeks for the whole process so take heart your closer now then when you started. The only thing to do is be patient and wait your turn in que.

  6. I found out one day when I did a google search on my name that my information from Visa journey came up! Maybe there is a public information that lawyers can access to get leads for cases?

  7. Please I would like to know how long it takes for NVC to schedule for an interview in Ghana..?

NVC completed our case in January 2010 and since we have been waiting for the interview...Dont even know when

According to the research and timelines I have seen, it takes about 30 weeks from the time the case is complete. The interviews are scheduled the second week of every month - and it is now a long wait in que. Nothing canbe done to expedite the part, just hang in there & be patient.... My case was complete the last week in December - hoping for an interview date in May/June. Once you are notified you have a date, the date is a month out. The interview comes and if all goes well there is about a month wait for the Visa - if there are any RFE's or anything else needed at the interview - you are delayed about 3 weeks.

I tell you this not to discourage you, but to be realistic in what to expect - for me, knowing that it takes this long prepares me instead of gathering up hopes every month only to be disappointed and lonesome.

  8. Ok - You need to have a notarized Copy of the original, not the original. I don't think He is lieing to you - Passport fraud and scamming is very high in Ghana and the current administration is tough on security/scam/frauds, doing all they can to curb the current behaviors to give Ghana back a good name. And I bet that the police are asking him about why he would send away a Ghana passport! It makes me feel better that they are doing something about the high fraud/scamming going on! That is a good sign. The tough part is getting an appointment for the notarization at the US Embassy, which is the only thing the IRS will accept.

I followed a link from another gal on here that ended up filing single and will ammend her taxes once her husband arrives. I was fortunate that I had my son this year and filed head of household, making mention of my married status somewhere buried deep in the form. (I had assistance this year with my taxes.) May I suggest that you file single & ammend your taxes. I susspect that you may have really counted on the deduction, but it may be the best thing to do at this point. Try a search in the forums for taxes. You will not be able to file on time this year waiting for the notarized copy anyway. Hope this was helpful.

  9. Hello - am wondering what happens when my husband in Ghana is invited to go to the UK to visit with family and maybe do a little bit of work. We are in the middle of the loooooooooong wait for the interview date for Ghana. Will going to the UK void my petition to bring him here? If I am thinking its ok, and if he gets to go to the UK, he goes and when his interview date comes up, he justs has to go back to Ghana for the interview, correct?

If he gets to go to the UK, then I can go there for a visit too w/o a visa and will at least get to see him again....

    Thank you & Happy Easter!

  10. I think is 3 things to consider, yes?

    1. petition / visa application. It's left NVC, so if you want to withdraw it, you'll have to contact 1--DOS 2--NVC and 3--Embassy to withdraw the I-130.

    2. divorce - you can file in your local courthouse, he doesn't need to be present, but most likely will have to sign a 'waiver of appearance' between 'filing date' and 'granted date'. 'Served papers' is a trivial thing, btw - the court will do it, on your behalf - no problem there, at yer court, about it.

    3. Fraud? Contact ICE - the # is below, in the fine print.

Good Luck, what ever you decide to do.

Thank you for your information. I have contacted another reseource and have discovered that my initial suspicion can not be confirmed. So at this time I will keep the petition in Que. But thank you for the help -

Your husband is too . . . young? Millions of American woman are now turning blue with envy. The woman's sexual peak is at 40, the man's at 20. Looks to me like he's 5 years too old . . .

Thank you so much - i needed that laugh, you are right - God Bless you!

  11. Hello VJ'ers Rightnow I am in shock or jsut calm that I finally figured out the truth about my husband's age. He lied to me and tricked me into marriage when I went over to meet him and be engaged. His passport said he was born in 1979, but he denied and said it was an error. I have been struggling ever since I return home about this relationship - knowing something isn't right. Well, I received information over the weekend and now am almost 99% certain that his orignal passport was correctr and he lied to me about his true age. There is a 15 year difference now not 8 years and I am not okay with this. I beleive he lied to keep me knowing I would not go for someone so young. He has lied on his petition forms and now I don't know what to do....I looked into divorce but would need to have him served papers over there. I can't go through with the petition knowing he lied to me and continues to. Any response will be greatly appreciated.

But thanking God I know this now and not later.... but what do I do?

    Broken hearted in California :crying:

  12. Hello,

Does anyone here know how long it takes the National Visa Center to schedule interviews for CR-1 after case is complete? Our case was completed on 21st October 2009 waiting for our interview date. Has anyone here gone through the process and know how long we have to wait before we have our interview date? A little help will be useful at this time as it seems as though we are leaping in the dark!!!!

    God bless!

If you look at the timelines you will see about an average wit of approximately 30 weeks. Ghana takes a long time - so talk and email and just know that it will be soooooo good when you finally get together. Take deep breaths and consider it a "Tour of Duty". Good luck!

  14. Hi VJ family sorry i havent posted since my husbands approval on Jan 11-10. its been crazy!! but finally good news. He was told to return and pick up his visa on Jan 22-10 only to be told that he needed to complete the DS230 form again, because they misplaced it somehow. Even though he signed page 2 during his interview, they lost the form. so my husband spent 2 hours trying to complete a government form, that he was not at all familiar with or even knew the answers too. for example, my parents date of birth, place of birth, etc. he had to call me at 230am to get this information.

after he finally completed the form, they told him they had to give him a new date to come back and pick up his visa (Feb 5-10). we were both so upset about this, i was even more upset when i realized what form it was!! because he had his file with him, with all of the copies of every form inside. he never thought to look inside his files. The DS-230 form, he had it with him all the time. However, even if he had given them his copy, they needed time to process it again. he was dissapointed in himself.

so thankfully all went well when he returned to the embassy on Friday feb 5-10, he received his visa!! I thought he would be jumping for joy, but he was so cool and calm, and emotionally devasted by this entire ordeal. we're both so happy this is over. I just want to thank my VJ family for your hugs and support.

Im so grateful to all of you. now i have to prepare for his arrival, im looking for the best airfares from ghana to sanfrancisco. i didnt realize one way fares were more expensive than round trip. pray for me.

    Happy Days!!!

Congratulations! I would check Delta Airlines, United Emirates, and the one that goes into Amsterdam... (sorry name escapes me) However, Delta has NS flight into JFK & then NS into SFO... delta 172 & 167?? What did you take to go there?

  18. hello everyone. it has been a while for me. i have a question for you guys. for those of you who are married, does your husband expect you to cook everyday? this is presenting itself as a problem in my marriage. we have been together for 5 years, married for 3. i am a teacher and i work at least 10 hours a day. my husband works too, on average 6-8 hours a day. he cooks sometimes but not all the time. we are getting into huge arguments now because if i don't cook african meals, he gets angry and ignores me. i don't know how to cook many african meals at all. i am american with a caribbean background so i make mostly caribbean food and occasionally african food. my husband told me that he is unhappy because he wants to eat african food every day. i feel this is an unrealistic expectation. any thoughts? i'm at the point where i don't know what to do...

What kind of meals is he requesting? Where are you located? I looked in the library for some african cookbooks but my husband said not to worry so much about what to cook for him. I am a soup & salad girl, simple cooking. If I recall Ghana had rice & rice & rice....soups and fish dishes - Goat, (although goat isn't in the stores here....) I understand you are tired and he should try to help - it is a partnership & while he may want traditional roles, you are working and sounds like more hours then he is. To me, partners pick up slack when the other can't - not that you are unwilling - maybe it is somethng you to can do together?

    Good Luck!

  19. Hello All!

I've had a lot of people asking me about my husband's interview in Ghana and wanting me to post a review. The story isn't over yet, but in the meantime, this is what happened. Hopefully this can help someone!

The interview went really well for the most part. We were confident and what we thought was well prepared.

My husband knew about the "your passport pictures are wrong" trick that usually ends with lots more money spent and a frazzed applicant. He made sure his pictures were right, but also brought two different sets, it worked-he didn;t have to get anymore.

Everyone he came into contact with was very nice and wanted to see our pictures. His interviewer was a man and he too was very nice. My State Reps office had told me to prepare for a 3-5 minute interview and that dh would really need to sell himself there. This was not the case. The interview was at least 15 minutes!! My husband was asked simple questions like how we met and where I live, nothing crazy or invasive. We had TONS of proof and the guy went through most of it. He also looked through the entire photo album my husband had. He laughed and commented on the pictures, and again, was very nice! He complimented us and was very sxweet about our pics and relationship. He even taught my husband the Texas Longhorns sign when he saw a pic of him with a UT shirt on. All in all, it went REALLY well. Then, out of nowhere the interviewer said, "Everything looks great, you're all set. You just need one more thing....a co-sponsor."

Then he handed him a yellow paper with a 12-30 return date and co-sponsor circled.

This pisses me off for a few reasons. 1.) I MAKE MORE THAN ENOUGH!!! I filled out the Affidavit of Support on my own and was APPROVED!! Someone should have said something before now. 2.) The interview letter said that our Financial Evidence had been "RECEIVED and APPROVED"...again, something should have been said. 3.) THE 30TH?!?!?! WE'RE GONNA MISS CHRISTMAS!!!!! Ugh.

My parents quickly agreed to co-sponsor and we had everything needed and FedExed in less than 24 hours. I've been begging the embassy to let him come in early so he can make it for Christmas, but no one will answer me!! The person I spoke to knew NOTHING!!!

    So that's why I haven't posted, we're not finished.

For those of you still prepping, this is what my husband took to the interview. The interviewer was impressed by how organized everything was and said it was all great.

TONS of PICTURES-in their own album-pictures of us as well as me/us with his family and friends.

E-MAILS- all of our e-mail were printed, as well as some between he and my parents.

PHONE RECORDS-I could only get about a year of records, but it was still a TON. I highlighted calls/texts to and from my man and wrote a note about me being on my parents' plan, it wasn't a problem at all. I also included a letter about not being able to get calls from as far back as 2006.

LIFE INSURANCE- My entire LI plan with hubby's name and payout highlighted.

PASSPORT PAGES- copies of all of my entry/exit stamps, visas and visa extension. My SR's office said proving time spent together in Ghana was very important and that this would be the best way.

RECEIPTS- any receipts we had from hotels, tro-tro rides, restaurants, etc.-just anything that continued to prove how much we were together.

GIFTS/HAND WRITTEN ITEMS- there were several notes, letters, small books and other things we also included.

I think that's about it. I put it all in a huge, expandable, plastic envelope type thing and labeled each section.

Thank you for sharing your story - I'm sorry that this was done to you. Now I wonder what hiccup they will find for my husband? I would very much like to know the reason why they wanted a co-sponsor? Will be praying that the next interview date will allow him to fly straight into your arms!

  20. The ghana embassy is so back logged even if ur case completes u still wont get and interview for 6 to 8 months doesnt anyone know why the are back logged

I think I recall someone saying that it was because of 2 months no interviews during Jan/Feb 2008, during their presidential elections. Don't know why that would have stopped interviews unless they did not want anyone to leave during this time.
