  3. My fiancee is having the sputum test done now and is to call the SLEC on December 2nd. This will probably be to make a time for the medical report out of the sputum test, which is believed to be negative. Her instructions said she would then have the visa interview within 2 or 3 days, which may be sometime between December 7th thru 11th. Now then another week will be needed on the average to get the visa in hand. By this time half of December will be gone. It may be hard to make reservations for air flight to Iowa by this time.

Any ideas or suggestions would be most appreciated. A Delta Airlines representative recommended to talk to a travel agency to see if they may have blocks of flights that could be adjusted if reservations are made ahead of time.

Can you tell us something? When a sputum test is required, does it mean that you have to have the (negative) result on hand before you can proceed with the USEM interview? I noticed that you cancelled it. I thought you could proceed with the interview, and then wait for the sputum tests to be processed, then get the visa when test results are negative. Good luck.

That is it exactly. If you have made an interview time at the embassy the SLEC will cancel it or it gets automatically canelled, because the embassy does not receive anything from the SLEC. The beneficiary will also receive something from the SLEC that gives entry to the embassy when the medical exam is marked as passed, in this case when the TB test is negative. When the SLEC finds something that requires a sputum test they do a 3 day examination of the sputum and if the TB bacteria is found treatment is started. If no TB bacteria is found then you have to wait for 8 weeks to see if TB bacteria is present in any of the 3 samples. Then it is a go, the beneficiary gets the stamped or signed paper and the SLEC will then schedule an interview within the next two or three business days.

  4. Iowa?

Why would you bring anyone to that God Forsaken Hell Hole? I already feel sorry for her

Closer you get to X-Mas the more expensive the ticket gonna be. My wife if flying from DFW to MNL , Leaving USA first week of December, and coming back to USA the 20th of Dec. She paid $900 roundtrip, she purchsed the ticket about 2 months ago online.

Well I am hoping the cold air will not be to much for her just coming from a hot summer day into winter. December in Iowa can be moderate to bitter cold and snowy. Maybe I should see about getting her a flight from MNL to DFW then on to Cedar Rapids instead of to Detroit or Minneapolis then to Cedar Rapids. I guess I will wrap her in my parka when she arrives. I am finding the most direst flights are a little over $900.00 one way.

I took some online classes with team members in Texas. I know how in the dead of winter in Iowa it can be almost a cool day in summer in Texas. I would like to retire in a warmer climate than Iowa like Texas or Southern Colorado.

    Thanks and God bless,

    Dale

A quick (LAZY) search indicates no record of freezing temperatures for any city in the Philippines. Baguio has been under 10C several times. Imagine never seeing ice, snow, or frost! Iowa? Have you told her about this? You better get that girl her own down parka! Hey we're trying for before Christmas too! I can't wait - the best gift ever... Best of luck to you both......

Thank you, Pat knows about it being cold here in the winter. She tells me it will be exciting to see the change in seasons. I was not sure which small size would fit the best, so I will barrow a coat until I can get Pat to a store. I asked a Filipina that works at Walmart that probably wore the same size as Pat. She told me to have Pat wear the heaviest jacket she had to America. So Pat will be bringing a sweater, a sweatshirt and a jacket when she steps off the plane into the airports in Minneaplois or Detroit and also in Cedar Rapids.

    Thanks and God bless,

    Dale

  6. You may want to allot up to 10 business days for the Embassy to deliver the visa via Air21 also. That puts you at the 3rd week of December. Plus she has to get her CFO Sticker after she gets her visa.

Thanks, a great idea. I am thinking of getting a ticket for the 23rd of December just to make sure. I wanted to have Pat come this month before the real cold winter air starts. Pat has never seen snow or been in snow, so this will be quite an adventure.

    Thanks and God bless,

    Dale

  7. I have met a travel agent in Portland that is Pinay. She has helped me with scheduling and seems caring and knowledgeable about immigration matters. She has consolidators specializing in travel to Manila. I recently asked her permission to post reference on VJ.

  8. We just got our NOA2 and assume the interview date at embassy will more then likely be in December. I will be flying there from Florida to be at interview. assuming she is approved, there will be her and her son (10 yrs. old) and myself flying back to Florida.

I will already have my round trip ticket. How will I get 2 more tickets at that time on the same plane with seating next to each other going to Florida? Seems almost impossible to do. Because round trip tickets are about same cost as one-way and If I purchase well in advance I could buy 3 round trip tickets with only 1 of the seats being used on the way there and all 3 on the way back. Not sure if this makes sense or not so I could use some suggestions from someone that has gone thru this.

It looks like you have some real good advise. I thought my fiancee would be here by now, but she had a scar on a lung, so everything is being delayed by 8 weeks. I would wait until after the interview. Maybe see if Air21 will notify you when the visa and passport are being delivered. Maybe they will even let you pick up the parcel at some location that serves your province.

    Good luck and God bless,

    Dale

  10. Due to persistent public demand,I now present to you the issue and thus, take side.

    Hi Chuck and Rhean,

I am not sure what the politically correct stance on marriage is today, but for me God has brought my fiancee Pat and I together. For me the marriage is a union between two people to become man and wife. The union in my belief should be sanctioned by God and the marriage should be serious vows to each other and to make it legal a ceremony should be performed by a justice of the peace or pastor. The vows should be for your lifetime together until death do you part.

This is my belief and Pat shares the same belief with me. Finding the right person is another topic. The right person does seem to be difficult to do. For me finding the right person I believe God has been preparing for a long time to meet Pat. One big element in the right person has many facets. It is chemistry.

This is my belief and I respect other beliefs.

  11. Congratulations! When is your interview? :)

    Thanks!

I don't have an interview date yet but I'm hoping for the 19th of the month if I can have it. I called yesterday at USEM, the agent said I'm not eligible to schedule an interview date yet. I'll try to call again tomorrow.

I saw from your timeline that yours will be tomorrow...Goodluck! Bring home the pink!!!

That is good that you got the medical exam out of the way now. My fiancee Pat went to Manila to get her medical and visa interview one week apart. The problem was there was a scar on a lung. So the interview had to be canceled to wait on the 8 week sputum test. They do a three day check to find the TB bacteria so treatment can be started, but if it is negative like Pat's she still has to wait until the 8 weeks is up to make sure.

Good luck to you on the visa interview,

    Dale

  12. Hello, guys! It`s been a while I haven`t post here..... Can I asks somebody if there is Filipinos lives here in Michigan, where do you go to send Balikbayan Box in the Philippines...Christmas is approaching and I wanna send something for my family and relatives in my province...If you know what is reliable Balikbayan box courier, kindly give me any suggestions..Thank you and have a nice day!!! God bless!

Here is a place in Warren that ships the boxes http://www.orientstar-us.com/main.html

All you have to do is get a box and fill it and take it to one of the warehouses.

Michigan is a large place so it you live in a more remote area you may have a distance to take you box.

    God bless.

I do not live in Michigan, but I live in Iowa. I get the boxes from JoJo's Oriental Foods. They use Alpha Cargo. What I am not sure of is if Alpha Cargo picks them up in Cedar Rapids or if someone takes them to a supplier or distributor in Chicago and then ships to Alpha Cargo. When I was in San Fransisco, Ca at the airport I notices some Filipinos with Alpha Cargo boxes, so Alpha Cargo is probably in any large city in America that exports to Asia or boxes are collected and sent to Alpha Cargo in California. This is the website for Alpha Cargo http://www.alphasinoalphacargo.com/

I see from the website Alpha Cargo must ship from California. If there are oriental foods restaurants in your area you could ask them if they sent boxes to the Philippines. I will ask how that is done at JoJo's.

  14. since the medical exam received from the doctor is sealed, how do we check to make sure she has been cleared?

theres probably nothing to worry about, but i worry about everything and i want to be sure that everything is good to go before the interview.

    thanks

You will get papers stamped from the ST Lukes Center. You use those to get entry to the US Embassy.

    Dale

  15. Just spoke to my fiance and St. Lukes is open for business. Anyone out there who's fiance is getting TB treatment? Let me know..

My fiancee is getting her TB sputum test starting Tuesday. She is in a hotel near there.

    Dale

    Good luck with med test.

What about interview ? Was to be 28th right?

Would like more info If you can thanx.

    We go thur oct 1st,

Yes, the interview was scheduled for the 28th. Pat will start the sputum test on Tuesday, so we have a bit of a wait for the results. Pat was vaccinated for TB years ago, so I am sure the test will come back negative.

With the current scenario of Manila under water, Vjers based in /near Manila please keep us posted with fresh events regarding the availability of SLEC office.. if u do hear anything. Reports on Tv and over the radio havent mention SLEC concerns .

I heard from Pat this Sunday morning at 8:20 am CST. They had a total blackout for two days, some ares were still flooded. The hotel where she is was on low ground. I am sure the embassy will understand if people do not show for the interviews. I tried getting Pat on her phone, but so far it rings. That is more than it has since Friday night. Pat need s to do into the SLEC on Tuesday for the sputum test. I will post anything more I here. I will try to call Pat tonight after 6:00pm CST.

  17. I know this is off the topic but i havent heard from my fiance in a while. Nore can I get thru to her on the internet or phone. Her providence of san mateo rizal philippines was hit bad by the tropical typhoon. Im very worried and wanted to say if anyone has info on whats happening there or has any direction I can take please let me know. Thank you. This is why im so terrified...http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33033175/ns/weather/from/ET

My fiance is in Manila at a hotel on the 3rd floor. I just got a text message. She said the electricity has been a total blackout for 2 days. That message was at a out 8:20 am this morning (Sunday morning). It may be awhile for the power and phone service to be restored. I could not even reach Pat's cell phone, so either her phone battery ran down or the towers serving cell phone service were blacked out. Pat toldme there are still some areas in the area flooded.

  18. Hi Everyone,

If the medical exam fails for a scar on the lung, is the embassy visa interview automatically canceled? My fiancee had a scar on her lung and now will be going for the sputum test on Tuesday. Monday is when she was to have the visa interview, so is the interview automatically canceled or does she have to cancel it, or can she still have the interview then when the sputum test is negative she will qualify for the visa?

Everything was fine other than the x-ray which showed some scar tissue. Pat has been vaccinated for TB years ago, so I am confident she was either exposed to TB and her body fought the TB or it is from working in Manila some years ago. I was just curious if anyone had any idea if the interview has to be canceled by the applicant or if the SLEC cancels the interview.

    Regards,

    Dale

If she have negative smear, then you will be fine for sputum culture. Though it is 2 months delay for your process. No need to re-schedule for an interview, SLEC will take care of it. Then, if she is negative with sputum culture, she will have her vaccination and she could even choose her date on interview at SLEC. Sometimes, SLEC gives kinda later date for interview.

Thank you. Right now I am up about all night, but dosing off to try to contact Pat. I am not sure if Pat is still in the hotel that had a flooded third floor. I keep trying to get her cell phone, but to no avail. Thank you for your response.

    Dale

That is a good question, I am waiting to hear from my Fiancee. She is in a hotel near the embassy and SLEC on the third floor. I last talked to Pat at about 2:00am CST or about 3:00pm Saturday Manila time. At that time it was raining hard and the first level of the hotel was flooded, but power was still on. If I can get in touch with Pat I will post what I find out. I just checked the US Embassey's site and nothing about flooding there.

    Dale

  20. There's no need for her to cancel her interview since SLEC will do it for her.Once she passed the sputum and culture tests after 2mos,SLEC will give her a new interview sched and will get her passport back and forward it to the USEM.Good luck and hope she'll pass the tests

Thanks. I cannot talk to Pat right now. She was staying in a hotel near the SLEC. The lower level was flooded. It has been 24 hours since I talked to her on her cell phone.

    Dale

  21. Hi DaleandPat.

If your fiancee misses her interview because of a delay in the medical exam process, SLMEC will re-schedule the interview date for her after the results of the sputum test come out negative. Unfortunately sputum test results do not come out for 2 months. She cannot be interviewed pending the results of the test.

  24. Hi Everyone,

I was talking to my Filipina fiancee about her visa interview and the subject of import duties entered the conversation. All the Pat is bringing are a couple suitcases of mostly cloths and personal items. Has anyone run into if there are any import duties when going through customs at the POE when entering on the K1 visa?

    Regards,

    Dale
