  1. Hi everyone.

Just got back from my final visit to the US prior to the (hopefully) final legs of the K1 application process.

I am the beneficiary (UK Citizen) My fiancee being the petitioner. I am currently putting together and tripple checking the DS-230, DS 156, DS 156k and DS 157. I have new full copies of my birth certificate, Police record check and so on. And plan to use our wedding invitation as well as copies of the payments for the wedding venue as proof of our engagement.

I have been suggested that copies of the police docs, birth cert have a hand written " Certification " that they are copies of untampered originals and may be requested at a future time. (or something to that effect) and not send the original copies as they will be needed for my interview when it is scheduled.

I have my medical booked for two weeks time and plan to ship the paperwork off to the US Embassy in London by Monday at the latest then the IV-15 a day later to say that I am ready for Interview.

My question to you all is this. As "paper paranoia" is setting in ( I am at work at the moment mulling over all of this ) But recall from memory that one of the above mentioned papers asks for "proof of financial support" or something similar.

My financee earns just above the 125% base line above poverty and after talking with her this afternoon and aranging to have a full copy of the i129F to be sent to me (in scanned electronic format) which she submitted to the USCIS the "financial support" question popped up.

She does not recall including any financial information in the i129F !!!!!

Is this right ? (she is under a lot of stress at the moment due to her sitting her finals this week). Should I hold back sumbitting my paperwork and putting HER financial information into MY Packet being submitted to the US Embassy ?

I am sitting on nearly completed forms about to be sent but im worried that I am missing critical information as part of the application. I plan to leave the UK in early october and the possibility of having an RFE at this late stage is filling me with dread.

Any assistance you guys can offer I would be VERY grateful.

  2. I am Canadian and my fiancé is American. We are just looking into this fiancé visa and I had a few questions.

First off, would I need to have all debts ( credit cards ) and such paid off before being approved for the visa?

Secondly, I was wondering would would be the advantages and disadvantages to just getting married vs. Getting the fiancé visa?

    Thanks :)

Hi. I'm going through the same process of clearing debts before I move. But this is more for my own peace of mind than anything else.

From what I understand credit history is not transferable from the UK. So lucky people like myself who have spent the last 5 years rebuilding my credit

history was for naught :P But then again there is always the possibility that my (to be) wife will want to move to the UK in which case I guess its better to clear up my financial mess before I leave. But I'm a big fan of karma :)

  3. When you return Packet 3, you can always include a note that indicates you'd like an interview after a particular date. London tend to be pretty accommodating with such requests.

Thank you both for your input. I was not aware of the ability to request an interview after a specific date.. This could come in handy as I will be on a few training courses in London area over the coming months and would be handy to tie in the medical and / or interview at around the same time.. but that's just me being optimistic. :)

    Again thank you both :D

  4. This is my first post, and apologies if this has been covered before but just hoping for some clarification from my fellow visa applicants of today or past.

We filed our intent back in early December 2008 and have just had notification last week that our paperwork is heading to the UK consulate very soon. Going by the fantastic flow chart on this site I am to expect packet 3 to arrive in the next week or so. I am also gathering the important docs for its arrival early.

    My concern is this....

I am planning to make one final trip to be with my fiancee for two weeks at the end of April and return to the UK early May (our wedding plans are pointing to an early to mid October wedding ). Our original plans were that I would not take delivery of my packet 3 till my return to the UK.

If I receive my packet 3 before I fly out, will I be refused entry to the US ?

Would it be better for me to not submit the completed packet till I return from my trip ? I had thought about asking a trusted relative post the completed forms while I am in the US to help expedite the process or would this be a bad idea.?

I was lucky enough to book a cheap flight last year so the flight itself has been paid for a long before we decided to file and its something we are both very much looking forward to as you can imagine.

I am also prepared to have to provide some proof or even a letter from my employer to submit to the border control people to assure them I will be returning to the UK and not skulking into the country under false pretense.

Any advise you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. Love the site. :) and learning a lot from the ones who have traveled before me. ( and promise to post our dates and where we are up to shortly )

    Gary.
