  1. In north carolina they said that until i get the green card they can only issue me a drivers license good for 6 months. Also, he said that they do have to have a written test but it's a case by case basis for the driving test and he usually doesn't require it.

Yeah,I've heard varying stories on what's required and what testing has to take place. My husband has to renew his this month, so our plan was to go with him and find out what I need and what I'll have to do.

  2. It's awesome to hear that a few people that applied for AOS at roundabout the same time I did are getting their GC's. Hope mine comes soon. :(

Anyways, my husband and I are thinking about going and getting me a driver's license just so I have a piece of state ID, but he's worried that I'll have to do the whole deal - written exam and a driving exam.

For those that have theirs already, what process did you have to go through? *I know this will vary from state to state, I'm just curious. :)

  3. Got my EAD in the mail yesterday and I've had my AP for 2 weeks. I really hope my GC is on the way soon. I just want all this to be over with, and mostly so I can get my DL before the weather gets terrible here and so I can get a few other things taken care of.

  4. JUST got an email saying that my EAD has been approved and the notice is in the mail. Production was ordered a week ago, now I wait to actually get it in the mail. It's almost getting to be not worth getting a job here, though. Even if it's just a seasonal Xmas job. *sigh* I can't really get a car without a job and I can't get a driver's license without my GC.

I really hate feeling like I'm useless. :(

  5. I got my EAD Approved today aswell so happy, since I had an interview tuesday and the decision was going to be made tomorrow. I got my EAD notification at 2:30pm and the job offer at 5:30pm how ironic!!! gonna celebrate this weekend for sure!!! start monday so gotta behave this sunday during the football game, GO PATS GO!!!

Nice! I haven't even started looking for work yet. I should really start with today's news. I mean, I'm not hard up for money, but it would be nice to have something for some pocket money and start helping out my husband in saving.

  6. Well, I got them email today saying the production of my EAD has been ordered. Hopefully that means everything else won't be far behind.

Guess I should start re-hashing my resume and start looking for some work. I was mostly just thinking of getting a part-time christmas job, just to have a little bit of money in my pocket as I plan to go back to BC in the new year for about a month to see my family and friends. Finding a full time job right away may hinder that.

Anyways.. yeah. A little bit of weight of my shoulders.

  7. A small miracle occured today......I FINALLY recieved my EAD card!!! It had been approved on Aug 8th, so I only missed out on 2 months of income because USCIS couldn't get me a bio appt in a timely matter  My mat leave kicks in on Sunday, so I won't be looking for work, but now I can go get my SSN updated with my married name and get my drivers licence...YEAH!

Yay!! That's awesome. Today will be two weeks since I had my bio appointment and haven't heard anything. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. But I'm have lots to keep myself busy so I try not to worry about it. Maybe then it'll be a surprise. ;)

  8. Still waiting to hear anything since my Biometrics on the 1st. Was touched on the 7th and again today, after checking online. My case had already been transfered to CSC at the end of September. I hope I hear something soon. I'd like to be able to get an Xmas season job, just for some pocket $ and something to do. :)

  9. Had biometrics today and it went off without a hitch! We spent more time in the car than in the actual office. Everyone there, even the guy at the parking garage, was great. Totaly no hassle at all!

    Now, we wait.

  10. I think I'm all ready for my biometrics tomorrow. :) Have my clothes picked out, did a run-through of my makeup.

As for what to bring, I have:

    * my NOA's and my appointment letter

    * my passport

    * our marriage certificate

    * record of my height and weight (just on a piece of paper)

Anything else I'll need? Don't think I need to take all my other paperwork, as I've read that it's not needed.

  11. I got a transfer notice today saying that my case got transfered to CSC. My Biometrics appointment is on Friday, so hopefully this means things will move smoother. But, it is the government, so who knows.

  12. I wore Orange!

Also, if your case was transferred to CSC and said it's being handled at a USCIS Office, means it's still at CSC! They are a USCIS office.

    Gah, orange! j/k

It'll probably be black, pink, blue or green... yeah, I have too many choices! :) Tomorrow I think I might try to iron out that plan and do a run-through of my makeup too, as my 3rd Kat Von D eyeshadow palette is supposed to be here tomorrow.

I'm excited and nervous at the same time!

  13. Thanks, Kimbear and Huggle. I hope I'll get someone nice that'll let me check it out. I'll just wear what I want, and make sure I'm comfortable mostly. But, knowing me, I'll stress and worry over what I', going to wear and how to do my makeup. :)

  14. The husband and I are going for my Biometrics on Friday and I was just wondering, from other people's experiences, any thoughts on what's the best colours to wear for having your picture taken?

Is it like when you get your picture taken for your passport? No light colours, or whatever it is...

Was thinking of just wearing black, like I usually do, and not really any fancy jewelry. I have a necklace that I love that I think I'll wear. Nothing low-cut, of course, either.

    Thoughts?

    Suggestions?

  15. It's a week today until my Biometrics appointment. The husband and I have to drive 3 hours to Des Moines for maybe a 30 min appointment, but it's all part of the "game."

I'm nervous and excited about it at the same time. Nervous because I don't know what to expect and excited to get another part taken care of. Then it's more waiting to find out whether we'll be having an interview, as I've heard from a few other people that have gone to Des Moines haven't been required to have one, but who knows.... I'll keep my fingers crossed.

  16. I also later recieved an e-mail telling me that they will waive the requirement for the interview so that we won't have to travel with a newborn!! So it will now just be a matter of waiting!! I am so glad that the Congressman was able to help us out as this was starting to stress me out a lot...on top of all the stress associated with becoming a new parent. It is a huge weight off my shoulders!

    Oh, yay!!! That's great news.

  17. So I sent a letter off to the Congressman on Wed about me not having a bio appt yet 3.5 months into my AOS. I just got a call back from them. I guess the Nashville office is SEVERLY backed up, but because of my pregnancy and limited time to travel (in case I need an interview and have a 6+hr drive to Memphis) they have made an exception and will take me as a walk-in on Monday!! WOOOOO HOOOO! My EAD has been approved for awhile now, but they can't issue it because I have no biometrics, and apparently they didn't recieve any picture with my I-485 (which I know I sent!!!) but I never recieved an RFE nor does my on-line case status state anything about an RFE. So they will take my pics for that while I am there on Monday as well and hopefully I will get my EAD within a few weeks and my GC not too far behind!!

That's great to hear! Nice to know that pestering them get results. I wish you luck.

I have my Bio appointment on the 1st of October in Des Moines, which is about a 3hr drive for us. But it's on a Friday, so my husband's just going to take the day off and we're going to see what else is around the office so we can make our drive worthwhile.

  18. Woot! Got my Biometrics appointment letter in the mail today!

It's for October 1st. I thought about calling and seeing if we can do a walk-in, but with the husband's work schedule, we're just going to leave it to the day that we were given.

Another step closer to this all being done!

  19. The Green Card renders the EAD and AP useless. The GC authorizes you to work, and allows you to travel outside of the US and reenter as a PR. So, she's right. Now that she has the GC, that's her golden ticket :)

    Thanks. That clears things up.

I applied for EAD and AP when I sent in my AOS application, as it didn't cost anything else, that's something she didn't do. But I'll have those as well.

  20. Hey all.

A friend of mine, who got married the same day as myself and is going through all this stuff too, just got her GC in the mail today, but is a little confused about her EAD and AP.

She wants to go back to Canada to visit friends of ours, but isn't sure about having her AP is necessary. She figures "they were for that period between the K1 visa an having a proper green card"

Does she still need an AP to get across the border even though she has her GC now?

Both she and I have been reading conflicting things. Such as "sites say that I don't need the EAD or AP after I have a green card."

    What's the deal?

  21. The husband and I were out for most of the day and I come home to find mail for me!!

Got my NOA's for everything today!

Now I guess I just wait.

Any suggestions for what I can do in the meantime while I wait for my Biometrics letter?

Just wanted to share the news with my fellow VJ'ers. :)

  22. They must have felt my worries.

Any hour ago I got my "Acceptance Confirmation" emails!!! I'm going to print them off and keep them with the piles of my AOS stuff.

Now more waiting to be done... hopefully not too much, though.
