  1. Hi,

I'm going to be moving to the US in just a few short weeks - can't believe this bit of the journey (K-1) is almost over! :-)

I'd like to make a checklist of sorts for all the "official stuff" I need to do before I go. Any ideas? Currently I have:

File P85 with the Inland Revenue

Notify my bank that I'll be using my debit and credit cards abroad

Notify Student Loans Company that I'm moving abroad

    Close additional accounts (savings, ISA)

    Thanks for the help.

    Regards, inhopeofglory

    Congrats!! What is a P85?

  2. This is specifically for filing the I-129F, though. I'm a little baffled as to why we don't need to prove who I am in any way, except by virtue of the information I provide and sign as true. I mean, they do security/ name checks at NVC level, he could have said I'm Mother Theresa, they've nothing that shows otherwise.... and yup, I know she's dead :D

You might not need anything then until your interview. Yeah, I was surprised they didn't require a birth certificate for the foreign fiance while filing the I-129F. I guess they assume you will prove that you are real at the interview. LOL

  3. LOL - I put together all the bits and pieces for the I-129F and just mailed it all off to Ry. Each bit of bumpf is in the order that it appears on the cover letter, each one has a cover sheet paperclipped saying stuff like 'Proof of Citizenship: Fred Bloggs' (with his real name of course! lol) and then each cover sheet has a post-it note stuck on that says "sign pg. 3 and scan" or "put your birth certificate here or "do nothing" or "do nothing again!" and finally "yay, still more nothing! xx)

I figured if I can at least make him laugh at my anally-retentive organisational abilities, it might make the whole process seem less arduous than it is. Don't mind bearing the brunt of the work and thank god his mom is equally capable! When I told him everything I'd included he said, "wow... why couldn't you just have been a local gal!" lol..

Now if someone can just tell me whether I need to provide any evidence of my name change from maiden to married (i.e. my birth certificate and 1st marriage certificate - I'm not changing back for the sake of 7 months before I get re-married) I'll be a happy camper.

LOL!! Too funny! Hmm never thought about you having to prove your name. I'm sure it wouldn't be a bad idea to provide copies of those documents to prove why your name is different than your maiden, but obviously you don't want to take any documents you won't need. Good luck on that and keep us posted, I'm kind of curious about that now!

  4. Good Good. I had to laugh the other night while he was doing all that packet 3 paperwork. I think he thought it was going to be FAR more simple than what it was. I sat there on the webcam laughing as he would throw his hands up. Just made me laugh. Poor John...paperwork is not his forte'. He sent it overnight and I know it got there today...thank you royal mail! Now back to the waiting game. I'm thinking from the looks of previous timelines we are looking at April. I was sure hoping for March but April will have to do!

LOL!! I know that one!! Phill kept saying "Good god how much more stuff do I have to fill out???"

  5. I was thinking when I was going to be getting all the paperwork organized I may use a small accordian style folder so that I can mark them as to what they are and all he'll have to do is go to the tab that whatever they ask for is listed under. I'll be there too I just don't want to have to say anything and be able to let him get on with it as easy as possible...what do you think?

That's a perfect idea! I put a binder together with all my paperwork and sent it to my fiance with spaces to put his documents (like birth certificate etc...) and he took time to know which tabs were what and he did great at his interview! Best of luck to you!

  6. Hello everyone,

I just got a letter for submitting dated evidence of meeting in person within the two years.

I have already send this information with I-129 F package - airline tickets, boarding passes, photos.

    What I should do?

    Should I call USCIS?

    Should I hire an attorney?

    Thanks!

Hmm. When we sent ours in we sent airline tix for both of us, photos, receipts of places we'd been together, receipt for the engagement ring, etc... When you send stuff in be sure to highlight the date and the place the receipt was for. Do you have hotel receipts? Good luck!

  7. So far, I've actually made a whopping £150 selling my stuff in the past week alone. But having to package it all up and post it off is a bit time consuming. The money is going to go towards paying to move over the rest of my stuff, and replacing anything that I will want when I am over there.

My fiance brought his ticket today! He is coming on the 15th Feb!!! And we're planning on heading to the U.S. on the 13th April. Right now, I think I'm utterly daunted by the idea that soon I'll be moving, and am busy enjoying the excitement of looking forwards to seeing him again. He went home at the end of September, so I know we haven't been apart for as long as some here, but it feels like forever!

Nice selling! It's nice having that extra money for traveling expenses! So cool your fiance will be able to travel there for so long. I left England mid-September so I understand...it does feel like forever! Very much looking forward to March!

  8. I started doing this, a little too late though. I shifted a few thnigs, but fell victim to some scam merchants wanting me to ship to Nigeria, and ran out of time. Ended up taking some stuff to CeX (psp, mobile phone etc). As for my CD's, books and DVD's, I still need to go back sort them out later this year. A faff to be sure, will teach me to procrastinate since I knew for months this was coming! When I was at CeX, they have a sign up saying they now take CD's, so I might try that when I get back. Although I could get a price maybe on ebay, I'm way too lazy to ship everyone at the post office.

Yeah I understand. Phill is trying to get around having to ship stuff because it's so expensive. He is going to start sending some CDs out to me, which really won't cost too much to do. He has the problem of getting his guitars here though. If anything, he'll just leave stuff behind and when we're able to get back "home" we'll go through more things then and figure out what we want to do!

  9. What kinds of stuff is he successfully shifting on ebay? I've been trying to save all my CDs to my laptop (which died today, just as I was fixing to get an external HD as a backup. argh!) but was thinking of taking them as a job lot with DVDs to the exchange store, if only to get shot of them.

The fishtank will probably go on ebay in the next couple days. Apart from that, I was thinking carboot sales (like yard sales, just with a group of other people in one place) and then an 'open house' sale listed in the local paper for larger ticket items like furniture and domestic appliances when we're about a week from moving.

He listed 74 DVDs that he just doesn't want or that I have already (he has a portable region free external dvd player, so he's bringing some UK dvds). He listed the DVDs at 3.99 (pounds) and has had several hits on them. The boxsets he's selling for more. He sold a boxset for 30 something pound. He also listed his 2 guitar amps and an effects device for an amp. He has several watches on his items and is getting bids, so I know that makes him feel a LOT better. Bookcases and such he's just keeping at the house since his family lives there anyway. I know he plans on backing up everything from his desktop pc to an external before he leaves and he's going to start boxing up CDs and sending me those very soon. Sorry your laptop died, that's never good! :( Having your yard sales or open house sales might be easier than ebay, at least then you don't have to pay a listing fee. Although, Phill hasn't had to pay very much for his listing fees. Good luck and hope you can get rid of things easily!

WE'RE APROOOOOOOVED!!! :D I cannot believe it! I'm so so happy and so emotional. I can't believe its finally come! Thank you to everyone for their lovely messages of support and for all the advice on VJ. I don't know how we could have done it without you all! Yaaaaaaaay!!!!!

CONGRATS!!!! YAY! I'm so happy for you!

  10. I wasn't expecting the emotions that followed in the week after my visa was approved. Suddenly, I felt strangely out of my depth and overwhelmed with everything that needs to be done before I leave. My fiance is flying over to help me pack and everything, but it's still daunting!

Since my visa arrived today, we'll finally be able to think about travel dates. I'm caught between sometime during easter, or sometime in the first week of June. Easter seems too soon, and June seems too far. Bah!!

Good luck to all those with interviews today. I'm hoping to hear something very soon!

My fiance has been pretty overwhelmed with stuff he needs to do. He's listed a bunch of stuff on ebay and getting bidders, so at least he's getting rid of things he doesn't want/need before he comes. He's still researching tickets, but wants to get here the end of March. I wanted so badly to fly out there for a week to help him pack everything up, but I just can't afford it. :( It'll all work out though. We're just happy we're finally at this point.

  11. Well apparently these movies are popular because they're true :P

We've been approved. I can't even explain how relieved I am. She thinks she saw 1/2 of TeamMoran but unsure.

Wonderful! So happy for you! Congrats!

Yeah - all the frettin' about money was unfounded. I sent deposited checks, a letter from the bank manager, letters from clients saying how much they paid me, printouts of my deposits, copies of invoices sent out -- and they *only* cared about my taxes.

    Just an FYI for everyone...

Same thing here. Sent my fiance a letter from my bank, my employer, etc.. and all they wanted to see was my income tax stuff. They didn't even ASK for our co-sponsor's documents, so my fiance just gave it to them. LOL

  12. Good luck to you all though. I still get butterfly's in my tummy whenever I think of anyone here having to go to their interview.

I do too! Even though I'm not the one who had to do the interview, I remember being so very nervous for my fiance and my stomach did cartwheels until he got home and called me. It's such a wonderful feeling after the interview is done and you get that approval though! Good luck to everyone!

  13. Approved!!! Still in shock. What a day! I'll post up more details later, though I'll say (in an effort to ease the minds of those worried about their own interviews) the embassy staff were all lovely. It wasn't nearly as scary as I'd feared it might be. Actually, it was all very anti-climactic (as many have said before).

I knew you'd do great! Congrats Frosty!

  14. I'm trying to enjoy a few days of relaxing at the moment though - spent all week stressed out and totally overwhelmed by everything.

I'll be okay-I coped with the stress of the medical better than I thought I would. I'm sure this'll be the same. I hope we dont' get more snow though.

Wonderful idea! Take the next few days to pamper yourself! Hope the weather holds out for you! Can't believe how bad it is there. Will be thinking good thoughts for you in the days to come! *hugs*

  15. lol no i869 was White shirt and suit guy, I was asleep on other side i870, I kept an eye on all the i numbers coz waiting is fun!

I wasn't sure it was phill until I came on here and saw your pic

Got home from London this morning, only 18 hours late, some people had been waiting nearly 72 hours!

I'm never going to London for a visa again!

Oooh okay! lol! Glad you finally got home okay!

    Approved!

Interesting day, will post more later, but the ConOff part lasted all of 3 minutes! Yippee!

    Congratulations!

  16. Thanks for keeping us informed about the briefcase Beatlesrebel! I think Im just gonna take a handbag and a shopper bag for my A4 folder. Mine also has the sections like someone suggested for finding things quickly. I'm a bit worried about getting in a tiz trying to find stuff.

Anyway, as I said before, many congratulations on your successful interview! I cant wait til were in the same position!

Can I just ask a silly question? Hope you dont mind... all this preparation plays tricks on your mind... You don't need the USC's proof of ID do you? I mean their passport of birth certificate. I don't even have a copy. Is that ok?

Also, I do know if you have a co-sponsor you will need a copy of their birth certificate to send with the affidavit of support paperwork when you file for adjustment of status. This is to prove that the co-sponsor is a legal citizen. I don't think they require the USC's birth certificate because they will obviously have found out that you're a citizen by now.

  17. I'm glad to hear it's not just me that's worrying about this. I'm getting myself into quite a state over trying to get everything organized so I don't end up there at the interview, rummaging through paperwork and not able to find what the interviewer wants.

Oh Frostymist, you will do just fine. Phill took a huge binder down there that I had prepared for him and had everything marked by sections. He looked through it to kind of familiarize himself with what was in there. The woman who took the documents from him was pleasant and from what he told me, he didn't feel rushed. He only had to give her a few documents and that was it. He said she was a little hard to understand because she had a Chinese accent and was behind the glass. lol But really, I know you'll do just fine. *deep breaths* hehe

You're most welcome. They don't seem to be as gung-ho about stuff as they seem. The security guard told Phill that he could have brought his cell phone inside, he would have just had to make sure it was turned off!! We were thinking "what the heck?" lol Thank you very much and can't wait to celebrate your approval! Hey, I understand...no you don't need any proof of ID from the USC. :)

  19. Thanks for keeping us informed about the briefcase, beatlesrebel. I just asked my mum yesterday, and she apparently has an old laptop case which she doesn't want, so I'm probably going to take all of my paperwork in that. It won't matter too much then if they won't let me take it in-I can (hopefully) just leave it there.

Congratulations on the approval, by tthe way. I can't recall whether I've said so in another topic, but I know I haven't wished you congratulations here. So, congratulations! Exactly one week to go for me today. I just wish I could stop having nightmares about the whole thing!

I'm sure the laptop case will work just fine. Thank you and good luck at your interview...I think you'll find it to be an okay experience!

  20. lol I seen phill there, he was i868 if I remember correctly, he got approved about 10 minutes before me

Hey i869, Phill told me you were the guy he chatted with today while waiting! He enjoyed talking with you! :)

Claire and I spent the evening writing up her interview review. Umm.... if you choose to read it, you might want to make sure you have a few minutes and bring a lunch. I had no idea how long it was until I read it after posting. :pop:

Oh no, the fingerprint machine wasn't working then either! Sounds like Claire had the same people Phill did. Glad she made it through the interview okay and got the approval!
