  1. Hi Chelsea! The form 2555EZ is the correct form, that is what the lady at the tax office we went to used. As far as how exactly it works, I'm not sure because it's all very confusing to me...that's why I paid to have my taxes done this year. From what I remember her telling me though is that we do have to report any income they earned but that it will be excluded. However, I thought that if only excluded it from your taxable income but our preparer was told by the IRS that it also had to be included in my total income. Like I said, very confusing! Is there anyway you can have them prepared this year? The only reason we did it was because we are getting a rather large refund. Otherwise I would have figured it out on my own I think.

Sorry I can't provide more useful information!!! :(

Thanks, Liz! I'll do some more research and try to figure it out. Or maybe I'll have to go to someone. :(

  2. Hi Liz,

I saw the post you wrote a page back and wanted to ask you questions about taxes too. I read the threads about how we can elect to claim resident status for Arturo even though he doesn't meet the two tests as long as we report worldwide income. It's the reporting worldwide income that confuses me. I'm using TaxACT and the form that I can find is form 2555EZ, which is Foreign Income Exclusion. When I fill that out, it subtracts his foreign income from mine, so it changes our overall income. That doesn't seem right to me, though. I'm just supposed to report the income, right? Not have it excluded?

I've only been filing taxes for a few years and never filed paper taxes, so I'm not really sure if I have to go back and do it all by hand now. Any advice you can offer?

Thanks and good luck at the weigh in!

  4. Liz, this one has a lot of good recipes...http://allrecipes.com/features/holidays/thanksgiving/2009.aspx

We're having a quiet Thanksgiving with just the two of us. Arturo prepared two of the dishes yesterday, which is awesome!

I just saw the posts about Turducken, and I have to say that Arturo has been in love with the idea ever since he first heard of it 3 or 4 years ago. I saw the link and that site says it feeds about 30 people or something!

Lee, about the laptop gift. I think that's a great idea, especially if it'll make it easier for y'all to talk.

I actually think I'm going to be the only one in my office today. I found out yesterday that almost everyone I work with is taking today off. I'm just assuming that the rest are as well. It's 9:30 and noone else is here yet... It's nice and quiet!

  5. LOL...ok, I guess I can see why you don't have a facebook page...hehe! I'll try to post a few more on here once I get them all in and sorted.

I'm glad you have somewhere to go for Thanksgiving.....I don't want to hear you were sitting home alone!

As for us, we'll be cooking dinner that day....it'll just be me, Pat and Diane, our friend from Holland. It'll be the first thanksgiving either of them have ever had so it should be fun!

    Hi Liz,

Congrats! Very lovely photos. I wish you many happy years together!

  6. Hey folks,

So I am having some issues with I-693 part 2, the famous vaccination records. I am trying to file for adjustment of status and need to get my I-693 certified by a doctor. However, I don't really have any real proof that I have had all the vaccines. I had a full medical test in Guatemala for the K-1 visa process by a certified doctor. I took my results in a sealed envelope to the embassy and obtained my K-1 Visa without any problems. However, I never received a copy of my medical report and I didn't get one myself because they told me not to open the sealed envelope. So now I am supposed to have a doctor transcribe my vaccination record into a I-693 but the problem is that I have no proof of what my vaccination record is. Has anyone faced the same situation, did you come up with some agreeable solution? I would appreciate anyone's input as to how I should proceed. Thanks for the help.

    Arturo
