  1. Congratulations! (F) Thank you for your detailed review. Don't forget to copy and paste it in the Reviews section here on VJ! That's incredible you had to wait that long...I can imagine you were a bundle of nerves! What does your being from Winnipeg have to do with when the visa will be ready? This is the first I've ever heard of people not being able to get their visas the next day in Vancouver. It's very disheartening to hear this. Hoping you can get back to us, as I know we've always been clear to those interviewing in Vancouver that they can pick it up the next day!

While it's been 3 years since I had my interview, they used to have all visa interviews in the morning, and then have all passport with visas ready by the afternoon. Now that interviews can be in the afternoon, they've normally been ready the following day.

Thank you for the Congratulations! The US Consulate in Vancouver's reasoning on to why I couldn't get my K1 Visa today (Friday) since I had to go home was because, according to her, is that they have been really busy -- especially since their system has been buggy lately. If I waited in Vancouver until Tuesday, I could have went home with it... but there was no way I could extend my hotel + airfare stay. :( I didn't worry too much though -- she said I could track my Visa package with the prepaid envelope I gave her. Can't wait to get it!

  2. After I posted my medical review, I thought it would only be appropriate to share my experiences with you all about how it went at the US Consulate. I was able to communicate with them via e-mail several times, and they were always able to get back to me the next day. When it came to scheduling my interview, I e-mailed them to let them know that I wanted to schedule my medical the day before my interview, and make sure that it would all be done in the same week so I wouldn't have to go back and forth between Winnipeg and Vancouver. The next day after I had sent the e-mail, I received a reply, getting the date that I wanted as long as I faxed my checklist.

Anyways, to my interview! I left my hotel at about 12:30ish as my interview was at 1:00pm. I headed over to the Consulate in a taxi, and got there at about 12:40ish or so. To get into the Consulate, you have to go through one door, where there is a security guard standing there. Because I was a little bit early and because the guards weren't back from their break yet, I was told to come back after a few minutes. To the right of the consulate is a Starbucks, so I just waited in there for a little bit until I had to come back. When it was about 12:50 or so, I went to the door that lead into the Consulate again, where there were three security guards. The first guard opened the door for me, the second searched through all my folders and told me to remove my jacket, along with my watch and belt, and then hold onto my jacket while I went through the metal detector. After that, they gave me back my things and I headed up a flight of stairs, and walked through a door. I went to the right, and there was someone waiting there. She asked me where I was going, and I told her to the 20th floor, for my K1 Visa. She pressed the button and swiped a card, and then I was on my way to the 20th floor. When I stepped off the elevator, there's another set of security to go through. Lucky for me, the guys who were doing the security were super funny and sweet, and kept me laughing. When I was done getting everything together after going through security, they asked me what I was there for (K1 Visa) and then gave me a piece of paper. On it was my name, and they wrote down a number (I was 4... funny, because I was 4th in line at my medical, too!) After that, they opened the door for me, and then told me to go to the left and to window B, which was in the middle. I placed my paper there, and then headed into the waiting area -- which was PACKED with people. I sat beside the girl I met at the medical who was also from Winnipeg (definitely thankful that she was there!), and the other people who were waiting there.

They were having a total computer glitch, so while I was waiting for them to call my name, I was totally ALL NERVES. The pain of waiting was definitely excruciating, and when they finally called my name (which was at 2:30pm -- an hour and a half was spent waiting for three other people to go ahead of me!), I was ready! I was greeted by a lovely older lady who gave me a paper that listed everything she wanted in that specific order. I gave her my passport, passport photos, deposit slips from Scotiabank birth & police certificates, 156 (MAKE SURE YOU HAVE TWO COPIES!), 156K, Affidavit of Support --- and I think that's about it. After that, she told me to sit down... for another hour.

After waiting and waiting (and more waiting), I was finally called up to another window -- this time on the right. I was greeted by this sweet, older asian lady who was SO FRIENDLY, it was amazing. She told me that she would be taking my fingerprints, and to read the sign above the fingerprint sign. After that was all done, I sat down again for about another 15 minutes, and then I was called up... again, by the sweet, older asian lady. She told me that everything was fine, and that my criminal checks went by quickly. She then asked me:

    - how I met my fiance

    - when did he propose

    - what does he do for a living

    - do i plan on working in the us (yes, after the US Government allows me to)

    - bonafide evidence of our relationship (tons of photos!)

After that, she smiled, and then said the words I had been waiting for since I stepped foot in Vancouver -- APPROVED! She was so happy to tell me that all K1 Visas that day were approved (there were four of us there), and then told me to go to the B window that I went to earlier where the lady would tell me how to get my visa, etc! I happily went over there, and she said that because I'm from Winnipeg, that she would have to mail my visa over to me because it wouldn't be finished until Monday/Tuesday. I didn't have an envelope, so she gave me a paper that had an explanation on where to get an envelope -- and because it was close to 4, I LITERALLY ran all the way to the post office which was across the street past the parkade, down a flight of steps, bought my prepaid envelope ($25), ran back to the Consulate (where the same security welcomed me --- because of my HUGE SMILE), and then back to the lady where she told me what would be happening. I'll be getting my K1 Visa shipped to me via Express Canada Post, and I can't wait!

All in all, it was a good, nerve-wracking, stressful experience -- but I have to say, it was worth it all to be approved! Thanks so much to everyone on here who's helped me on my journey! Now onto heading into the States, and getting married! :)

  3. Thank you for the review!

Quick question - how much was the medical at Woking?

    Your welcome!

The medical was $350, and they only accept money orders. :)

Great review!!! The staff @ woking were wonderful to me as well in may when I was there.

I see that your interview is tomorrow!!! Good luck!!! You will do great!!

Mal- Unless they changed it since may the medical is $350

    Thanks so much! I hope so! :) :) :) :)

  4. Hello, folks! I thought I would share my personal experience going through Woking Medical Clinic in Vancouver since I just finished it today!

Before I start, I have to say that the staff at Woking are SO SWEET. They are some of the nicest people. When I had questions and other things in regards to my application and etc., they e-mailed back within 1-2 days. Although they are extremely busy, they'll get back to you. Don't hesitate to ask them questions - they always check their e-mails.

Anyways, to my medical! I stayed at The Century Plaza hotel -- it's right across the street from The Sheraton Wall Center, and about $100 less if you go through Expedia.ca (my total cost for four nights only cost me $275). It's about a good three minute walk to the clinic. Since I had a chance to scope out the Woking Medical Clinic the night before, I knew that I had to walk all the way up through the sliding doors, and make my way on the elevator to the second floor.

I got to the clinic at about five minutes to six -- even though the appointment was scheduled at 6:30am, I knew I should be there early so I could be the first few in line. ( Word of advice: GET THERE EARLY. You do not want to be waiting long, especially since the line gets long fast!) When I got to the clinic, there were already two lovely ladies (another one from Winnipeg!) and a guy ahead of me. I was happy to be the fourth! The lady who works at Woking came in and let everyone know that we would all be in order in which we arrived. We made our way up to the second floor, and everyone was cooperative and stayed in their order, making sure to grab my number (4!) It was a packed place, with more than 20+ people waiting to get medicals done. We were told to wait until 6:30am, which we did, and then were asked to fill out two groups of papers -- one was just a single paper that states that we consented to this medical through the US government and that you just have to re-write a sentence and sign your name, and another group of about three papers. The group of three papers only requires you to fill out the first page, with a whole bunch of yes/no answers, and then signing the back of the paper. Fill this out AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, and then hand it back to the person at the desk. When I handed mine in (I was one of the first), she told me to head straight through three sets of doors, and turn right. There, I was greeted by another waiting room, where I waited (for about five minutes) for someone to call numbers. They called us up, four at a time. Us four all sat in different chairs, and there were two techs that would take blood. When the tech came to me, she drew two vials of blood, and then I was done. Off to wait into the main waiting room for my x-ray.

Five minutes later, they called us, this time in groups of six, and I was told to undress only the top, including taking off necklaces, and then put in a pinkish gown and waited in another line. The x-ray tech (who was this sweet Filipino man) just told me to stand in front of the x-ray machine, and then have my elbows on my hips and move a little forward. One snap, and I was all done. I dressed up, and then headed back into the main waiting room.

Then, I waited another five minutes, before the receptionist called me up. I put my number down on the desk, and headed to the room where they would give me my physical. She gave me my passport & vaccination sheet, etc, and then left the room. I put it away, and then I undressed all the way, as required (you get to leave your actual underwear on, but not your bra -- if you're a woman) and put a white sheet over me until the doctor came. About five minutes later, she came by. She was a cute little older woman with glasses (her name escapes me now) and she was totally sweet, asking about my fiance, what I do for a living, etc. I checked off that I was hospitalized (only because I went to the hospital after eating a nut), so she asked me about that. Then, she checked my ears and throat, along with my lymph nodes and arms. She took my blood pressure, and realized it was high because I was nervous (I really was!) so she would take it again later on. She checked my breathing in the front, and then checked it again in the back. Then, I had to lay down and she did a check on my breasts, along with my stomach. She then took my blood pressure again (normal, because I was not nervous anymore). After that, she made me walk from one end to the other end of the room, to make sure my walk & knees were okay... and then I was done! I dressed, and then the nurse took me into a mini-room beside the receptionist desk, and recorded my weight along with my height. I had a quick eye check (to make sure that my eyes were working well as I was wearing my glasses), then gave my money and I was all done! It was pretty painless, and I was happily back at my hotel for a nap at 8:00am.

I went back at about 1:50pm. They were already calling people who had some problems with their medical/vaccinations. At about 2:10pm, they started calling everyone, and I finally got mine near the end (I'm guessing because I was one of the first people). I received an envelope not to be opened and just to be given to the Consulate (I'm guessing it was that second paper with the three pages that I filled out), along with my x-ray which I get to keep. SO GLAD that everything went well, and that all I have to do now is get my interview done and approved tomorrow afternoon! Wish me luck!

If you have any questions about the medical, please let me know, and I can try and help you out (the same way this forum has for me! :D )

  5. I can't believe I'm having my interview next week! Time really just flew by, and I can't help but thank all you VJ'ers for ALL your help & for this place just in general. I hope you all keep me in your thoughts when I go!

I just wanted to make sure I have everything. I'll be bringing my papers (which will be put into a nice portfolio to carry into the consulate) are everything that it said on the Packet 3 checklist:

    - letter of my interview with the consulate

    - passport

    - medical exam results (after I get it back when I have my medical done on Wednesday)

    - birth certificate

    - police certificate

    - I-134 + evidence of support

    - deposit slip stamped from Scotiabank of $131

    - Form 156

    - Form 156K

    - Letter of intent

    - photos of my fiance and I, boarding passes, tickets, cards, e-mails, phone records, a copy of "our" scrapbook.

Am I missing anything? Let me know! :)

    Copy of I-129F petition

    NOA 1

    RFE (if any)

    NOA 2

    P3 Letter

    DS230 with supplementary forms

    DS160 + 1 copy

    copies of DS160 Receipt

copy of biographical info on passport and all relevant pages

    Xpresspost or Priority Guaranteed Mailer

    Two copies of passport pictures

I didn't see any of the above on your list . . .

I'm being interviewed in Vancouver, so I don't need DS160, along with an Xpressport or Priority Guaranteed Mailer.

You can interview in Vancouver? Is this only for K visas?

    It's for my K1 Visa.

    any ideas??

    Tony & Carol

No need to worry about a letter quite yet... it'll come. If anything, shoot them over another e-mail, and they'll let you know what else to do.

My fiancee and I are on the 12th :) where did you book your hotel?

    PS. GOOD LUCK!!!!! :)

  9. Since Montreal has a topic dedicated to November interviews, I was wondering if anybody has one happening for them in Vancouver this month.

I'll be in Vancouver this month for my K-1 interview -- November 19th to be exact. I was lucky enough to get the date I wanted, and to schedule my medical right before hand as well. I'm excited / nervous / anxious to go! I hope I get to meet one of you awesome VJ'ers there! :)

  10. Wish me luck folks -- I got my Interview date yesterday set for the Vancouver consulate on Thursday, November 19th! I'm so excited/nervous/anxious! The day before that is my medical sooooo I hope everything works out! Eeps!

Good luck to all you other May filers! :) xoxoxo

hmm.. i am not sure if they are the ones who give you the medical exam schedule in your region.. but i know for a fact that here in the Philippines, you SHOULD have to have your medical exam at least A WEEK BEFORE your interview. let me know if it's the same for you. because they need time to send the medical exam results to the embassy .. and they ask this from us so that should anything go wrong during the medical exam, you still have time to set things right before your interview date.

    good luck.

Canadians can get the medical after the interview if it just ends up happening that way.

We just get RFE'd for it and then we just send it to them and they finish processing the visa.

Yup, like Rhiann said, Canadians can get the medical the day before (or after) the interview. I definitely think that I have everything in order, and I'm positive about everything. I'm getting my medical done at Woking Clinic in Vancouver, and they give the results that very day, so I'm definitely lucky in that regard! :)

  11. I got the interview day that I want! Now, it's all about scheduling my medical. I'll be going to the Vancouver Consulate in a few weeks (eeps!), and Woking Medical Clinic to get my medical done. Since my pediatrician retired, I can't get my records of when I chicken pox. I never got the Varicella vaccine, but my Mom did say I was 4 when I got it. Do I need to get the Varicella vaccine? Would I just be able to tell them when I got it, or do I actually need the proof? Help!

  12. After going through Packet 3 a thousand and one times, I feel ready to send it off tomorrow. I do have some questions though --

    1) Should I send off the faxed sheet & then schedule my medical or

    2) Should I schedule my medical, and then send the faxed sheet?

Since I'll be flying to Vancouver, I wanted to make sure that I was able to be there for a couple days, and I wanted to make sure that I would be able to get the right dates. What would your suggestions be?

    Thanks for your help! :)

  13. I'm looking into getting my medical done, but by the looks of it on Packet 3, the only places I can get it done is in Vancouver (which I'll most likely go if I can't get it done in Winnipeg since its where my Consulate is), Toronto and Montreal. I know some people here have gone to Dr.Drexler. Would I still be able to go to him, or would I have to go to Vancouver to get my medical done?

  14. Thanks so much for your help! Those forms definitely help me out.

Now I just need to find out if I'm suppose to send DS230 Part 1 out on its own OR together with the Checklist.

Also, has any of you completed everything on the checklist and then sent it, or just sent the checklist with things in pending (like, waiting to get my police report + birth certificate, etc.)

    I'll answer what I can:

I just received Packet 3 (yay!) in the mail recently, and have now begun the process of going through it. However, I totally feel confused and since I couldn't get the answers I needed, I thought I'd come to all you for some help. My questions:

    1. After reading the checklist, it looks like my first step is to send in DS-0230 Part 1 by fax to my Canadian consulate -- however, do I just send that itself OR am I suppose to send my checklist, too (even though I have not gotten my police report + birth certificate yet)?

    2. Speaking of DS-0230, some questions about filling it out:

    a. Number 14 - 17 speaks about a spouse. Is that part where I fill in my fiance's information? Or do I just leave that park blank? If you have a spouse, you're ineligible for a K-1 visa. Your fiance is, by definition, not yet your spouse. "None" is the correct answer here.

    b. Number 18 has a date of marriage. We were planning on having a civil wedding as soon as I get into the US -- however, do we have to put a specific date in or something else? You're not married yet. So the date of wedding does not apply. "N/A"

    c. Number 20 - 28 : that IS about my parents, right? Not my fiance's? Yes, your parents.

    e. Number 33 - does that include elementary school? And technical college, too? Elementary school is probably overkill. I've seen different schools of thought on this; some people include high school, others start with post-secondary (college, university, etc.). Either way, technical college should be included, and start with the most recent and work backward.

    f. Number 35 - I've been to the US so many times, but when they talk of previous visits, how far back should I go? I can remember up to maybe three years ago, but other than that, I really can't remember. Also, I'm planning a day trip in October to go shopping with some friends, should I add this to the application as well?

I know this is a lot, but I couldn't seem to find the right information in the forums after looking! Thanks so much for your help in advance :)

The VJ example forms are very helpful in this process: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...p;page=examples

  16. I'm from Winnipeg (born, raised and still living in!) and my fiance is from Portland, OR. :) I'll be moving to Portland after the visa is approved. Our "legal" wedding will happen in Portland, of course, at the courthouse, with our church wedding (in front of family & friend) happening next year in Canada. I just wanted to say how much help these forums have been -- I was a lurker for the longest time, and now that I've gone through part one, going through the rest of it will be easier with me not lurking anymore! I can't describe the amount of pressure/stress we were under just to get our I-129F out... but now that it's sent, all we're waiting for now is NOA1. So, our journey to getting me to the US has officially begun! :)

I'm from Winnipeg, been here most of my life... :star:

    I'm from Winnipeg, too!
