I'm a US citizen! Yay!
The oath was super easy for us since I'm 37 weeks pregnant.
We were really late (the appointment said to be there at 8:05am), however we hit a really bad traffic. We entered the parking lot of LA convention center at 8:45, parked really fast (I guess they just opened this parking lot since it was empty), went inside and we were seated at 8:56am. The ceremony started at 9am.
The ceremony itself was super quick. The last time I was their with my friend as a guest they were translating almost everything in Spanish and they also introduced all military naturalizing that day by name. However this time they didn't have translation and they only let us know which military personnel was naturalizing (Navy, and so on).
Since we were seated in the "Handicapped" section (pregnancy perk) we were the first ones (after military) to leave the room. At 9:30am we were leaving the parking lot. So we were less than an hour inside.
I'm planning to go to update my SS first, then update the driver license (I changed my name) and apply for passport (I'm not planning to travel, so the passport is not my priority right now).anyone has better idea about next step applybg for passport and updating SS.
I was planning to go USPS any other places for new passport cases!?
Thank you VisaJourney for everything! It was quite an easy experience with all your guides and helpful forums.
Turning myself blue....Yay!

Congratulations!I passed my interview (checked recommended for approval) and my oath is 3/25 in Houston.
I guess the dream came true. I got my doctorate from US 4 years ago and now I will be citizen of USA
Good luck everyone.
My oath is tomorrow. Nervous!

That's a good question. For people residing outside of the USA when applying for naturalization, they request that you have fingerprints done at the US Embassy, or at a facility authorized by the US Embassy in your country of residence to perform this service, and to submit the sealed envelope with fingerprint cards along with the N-400 application. In Southern China, where we live, the US Consulate Guangzhou has authorized two facilities to take biometrics for this purpose. She had her fingerprints taken at one of those facilities on May 18, 2014. Unfortunately, a couple other elements delayed our filing of the N-400 package until late July.
Our first 60 day delay in processing was caused by having followed the instructions on the USCIS website, which said very clearly to NOT include any biometrics fee with the application if they were taken outside the US. This was confirmed by several other sources on the internet, but unfortunately was a policy that was changed by USCIS in February 2014. Now applicants residing outside the US MUST include the biometrics fee with the N-400 application fee, regardless of whether they already paid the US Embassy or any appointed agency to collect the biometrics. It took two months of waiting and ultimately phone calls to clarify that. The last update to our case was when they received our check for the biometrics fee payment, four months after we had paid the fee to have them actually done in China.
Now, we have just two months left before the one year limit on biometrics runs out, so I hope for some progress before that date comes around.
Thank you for such detailed explanation! Hopefully your process will be over before one year limit runs out.
-
Your timeline in the table indicates that you had your biometrics on 5/18, which disagrees with the rest of your timeline. Which date did you do your biometrics? Maybe 8/18?We have not disappeared. But the case status has not updated since Sept. 23, 2014. I know the application is still active because they requested a (supposedly) missing document six weeks ago, which I sent by Fedex immediately.
Our research showed that Honolulu was a good choice for people living in Asia and filing 319b applications. Now I'm wishing we applied to the Fairfax office instead.

If you see the image you will see that they asking me what was my INS status between the time I arrived until I turned 26. So you are saying only send the I-94? In the form to become a citizenship it asks about putting the SSL information, therefore the request that I sent to them. Why some say it is irrelevant? should I leave blank?
Then just write a letter explaining that you were an illegal alien after your I94 expired till the time you received the green card. The copy of your green card will show them a date you become a lawful permanent resident.
I personally always prefer to be on the safe side and bring as much as documentation as possible. Being a woman I didn't have to deal with the Selective Service myself. However I had a friend whom I helped with the documentation and he had a similar situation to yours. He was not asked for this letter during the interview even though he failed to register (the letter said he was required to register) and he was over 31 years old (we didn't know about 31 years old rule before that).
-
I think they're asking for your current INS status. Just send them a copy of your green card and I94.After sending a letter to Selective Service (see my original post http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/535583-n-400-and-selective-service/#entry7467489) I received a response from them. They want me to provide proof of the form I-94 (I lost my passport however I had a copy of it, because it was needed for my green card). And also a valid INS status. I became illegal after Jan 23 2006 (arrived Jul 15 2005) since I stayed longer that I was allowed when I was stamped at the airport. From that point forward I was an illegal alien until I got my green card. What else should I provide besides the I-94? I didn't have any knowledge that I was supposed to register during that time frame.
Any advise?

Thank you, Lizette! I just checked when the next one is and you're right: March 18th. Now I'm waiting for the confirmation.Oh I've been waiting to see your update that your Oath has been scheduled ! And it looks like exactly a month after you sent in the requested evidence ...
Congrats !! the next one at the convention center is on March 18 !

My husband had his interview this morning and passed. Even though he applied based on the 5-year rule, the interviewer asked to see evidence of our marriage. Luckily we brought along tax transcripts just in case. So I would say bring along evidence of your marriage even if you are applying based on the 5-year rule. Better safe than sorry!
My husband was offered and accepted a same-day oath ceremony later in the afternoon and is now a citizen! The Baltimore field office usually does same-day oaths, so to our fellow Baltimore filers, plan ahead and take the whole day off even if your interview is early in the morning.
Congratulations!
I also have been asked for the evidence even though I'm divorced right now and I applied under 5-year rule.
I just received an update that my oath is scheduled and the letter is on its way! Yay!
-
Congratulations! When did you get your oath letter?Passed Interview. Oath Ceremony within 3 weeks.
-
Congratulations!Congrats Sibtain
Guys, my online status changed to Oath Ceremony yesterday."We sent a notice with the date, time and location of your oath ceremony to......."
Awaiting my Oath Ceremony letter now. Hopefully I won't wait for long to get the letter.

If he has been a permanent resident for 5 years (minus 90 days), then it is better to file as a 5-years permanent resident. My husband and I are getting ready to start his n400. We had a fiancé visa but we have now been married for six years. Should we still file under the three years married to U.S. citizen or five years permanent resident? I'm sorry if this is a silly question. Thanks!!

Here is the details of my case and what documents were requested - http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/531245-n400-5-year-rule-evidence-of-viable-marriage-between-roc-and-divorce/#entry7424506@Daisy, what additional doc did you send?
Did you get an RFE after interview?
I ended up sending:
- letter explaining why we got separated,
- tax returns for the years after ROC,
- lease agreements before and after separation,
- last bank statement,
- water company bills for the time between ROC and separation.
I didn't receive anything after the interview.

I'm in the same situation. As you can see from my timeline below I sent all requested documentation in late January. Now I'm just waiting...01/15 interview letter
02/13 interview
Passed the test, but decision could not be taken as IO says she is waiting on some docs before she can approve my application but that so far everything looks good.
She says hopefully in some days she will receive the doc n get back whether she needs more doc from me or not, if not, then I should receive my oath letter
Any July applicant experienced this?

What time was your oath? I was there with my friend at 1pm.Thanks so much Kash ! It was a such an emotional event, around 3,600 new citizen on Friday. And yes, the top country represented was my Husband's Mexico !
HAHA...I'm so happy he's done !
I agree it was so emotional. I had tears in my eyes. Can't wait for my oath! (I hope it is next month)

We scheduled your oath ceremony for Receipt Number ************ We sent a notice with the date, time, and location of your oath ceremony to the address you gave us. Please follow the instructions in the notice. If you do not receive your notice by March 12, 2015, please go to www.uscis.gov/e-request to request a copy of the notice. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.
called and greeter couldn't tell me the date of ceremony and wait for tier 2 was 12 hour long. hoping to receive the letter tomorrow or the day after. Any faster way to know the date of ceremony. infopass takes 2 to 4 weeks.
Congratulations!
You can google the location and date of oath ceremonies. At least in LA all ceremonies are hold once a month at the same place and there is a schedule available online.
P.S. Are you sure you wanted to post it in this topic? Your response doesn't help the topic starter.

My interview was in a different office (Chatsworth, CA), but I was also required to send the documents after the interview. I mailed on January 26. They received it on January 27. I'm still waiting...
-
You can request a status information letter from Selective Service and they will send you an official letter whether or not he was required to register.
-
If that counts as being here between age 18-26, what should I do? I never received any letter for that, nor I did know that I had to register. I don't have any criminal record and I've paid my taxes since I got here basically. What should I do?
Don't worry!
You can request a status information letter from Selective Service and it would probably say that you were supposed to register while you were being an illegal alien. However since you're over 31 (I assume you're 34 years old, not 24) you're eligible for naturalization (even if you failed to register for Selective Service).
Read this: https://www.sss.gov/Status.html
In N400 just explain that you failed to register since you didn't know that illegal aliens were supposed to register.
-
Sometimes USCIS is not prompt with the status updates. However you can be in line for oath scheduling. As soon as they schedule your oath you will get your oath letter.
-
Thanks, I appreciate it. I did send in our gas, electric, bank accounts, and mortgage which both of our names and addresses are on all these. And of-course our last 3 tax returns, which were filed jointly. Besides of the passport and DL, I just have no idea of what else to send to show we have happily been married for seven years, but I will see what else I can think of.
Reach449
You can bring the originals of these papers as well as the new evidence which covers the time while your N400 was pending.
Maybe a new tax return if you filed it before the interview.
-
I was asked to read and write the same sentences :-) My interview was in Chatsworth, CA on January 10th.he show me a paper, ask me read a sentence for him
"where is the white house"
then he gave me a paper, asked me write down
"white house is in washington DC"
Congratulations on the oath day! My friend got the same oath date and I will probably accompany her.
-
Congratulations! You probably got Friday the 13th oath dateMy husband received a text message today checked online ... Oath notification has been mailed. !:-D
-
Congratulations, Chalupatato! My friend had the interview the same day as you and she also passed.
During my interview the IO requested additional documentation and I was able to mail it only today (I was sick the first day and it took a week to get all the requested documents.) The IO said that they will make a decision as soon as they receive the documents. Hope I get my update too.
N400 5 year rule: Evidence of viable marriage between ROC and divorce
in US Citizenship General Discussion
Posted
silvermug, the IO wanted to see the evidence from summer 2011 (after we sent the ROC package with proofs) up until we got separated in the September-October 2012.
The divorce process was from late Fall until May 2013, but we haven't lived together as a couple at that time.
