  1. Yay! Weddings!!

    We will also pay everything half-half...no one offred to help yet, but I PRAY that someone speaks up!! LOLOLOL

    as for wedding bands we are both very simple people so we will probably both get simple gold bands. I'm thinking of having his name engarved in mine with the date and vise versa...is that corny?it seems like a great i dea when i think about it, but now that i wrote it down, it looks a little corny....LOL

    we also want something small with close family and friends...i'm hoping for 50-60 people

  2. Here's our situation: we have 2 kids together. The youngest will turn 3months at the end of this month, so I'm still on maternity leave. I will probably go back to work between the time that my maternity leave ends and the time that I will move to Albany. He works and we both agree that when I'll move, I'll try and find a job. I cannot see myself being home forever, regardless of how much I love my kids. I just need to work...need that intellectual challenge you know? Plus we definitely need 2 incomes! Ok went way off topic...sorry!

  3. We never exchanged any words on here before, but my heart goes to you. I'm sorry that you had to fall on such a mean person. Unfortunately many people (men/women) are very ungreatful and use good people such as you seem to be.

    If I was you, I would send a letter to USCIS or whoever's in charge of lifting conditions and explained that you were used, WITHOUT YOU KNOWING. Not out of spite, but just because what he did is wrong. He probably thinks that he's the KING right now living the life that you GAVE him: remember that...you allowed him to live this life, but don't allow him to ruin yours.

    Plus you say that he told you to get the F out......I'm sure that wherever you are living, you had more to do with it than him...So he's the one who needs to hit the road!

    I know it's probably easier said than done, you probably love him very much and care regadless, but for one, think about yourself, not him.

    Best of luck to you!

  4. Hello all,

    I'm very happy to say that I made it to Albany without any problems at all. Here I was with my mortgage papers and bills (In French! LOL Thank God they didn't ask for them, cause they could not have read them! LOL). This happened at the Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle - Champlain, NY border.

    Dex came to pick me and the girls up for 2 weeks...now I don't work because I'm still on maternity leave. I was afraid that they would not let me through. The BP guy was very nice asked me how long I was staying, where i was going, asked if I was planning on immigrating to the States. I said yes, but not right now. He asked me 2 more times. I answered the same thing. He then asked if I was planning to do anything legally and if we started any processes. i said yes that we filed for the K1 visa in October. He said ok, enjoy your trip! and that was it!

    I was soooo happy!

    So here I am getting ready to celebrate american Thanksgiving with my soon to be new family-in-law!

    Just wanted to share!

  5. You get a list with your Packet 3, but not every shot is mandatory for every age. Certain shots are only needed for certain age groups. Gardasil is required for females 26 years and under.

    ah ok that's good to know, thanks. well 30's knocking at my door, so i guess I'll scratch that one off the list! :rofl:

    I hope that the list isn't too long and that I have most of them....I hate needles!

  6. When you get your NOA2 your petition has been approved, then you have to pass your medical as well as the interview at the Embassy. Some people have been denied at the interview stage at the Embassy for some reasons.

    I guess just look at the NOA2 as being approved for the next step, half way done.

    :hehe:

    from what I read, it moves faster after NOA2 so let's say 75% done instead of half way shall we? :)

  7. for me it's a week after we come home. my reasons are quite superficial, but after a week, all the food i cooked and froze is DONE!

    so i REALLY appreciate my mom's help with the cooking and cleaning. i was lucky to have my mom before, during, and after the birth of both of my children and although her presence was and is much appreciated, i feel i needed it the most a week or so after the births

    OH AND CONGRATS ON THE BABY!!!!

  8. There are 2 types of EAD that can be filed for by K-Visa holders.
    • EAD based on the K-Visa, filed for BEFORE filing for AOS, using (A )(6 ) for K-1 or (A )(9 ) for K-3 results in an EAD that expires when the I-94 expires (90 days for K-1) this also costs $340 to file. For K-1 it is a USELESS EAD.
    • EAD based on a Pending I-485, is a 1 year EAD that costs NOTHING, and costs NOTHING to renew if AOS takes more than a year to approve.
    K-1 should always file for EAD WITH or AFTER they file I-485 to adjust status.

    GREAT advice!

  9. WOW! I feel sooooo lucky that we can drive to see each other....we don't have to worry about crazy airfare prices. Dex and I are lucky enough to leave only 3-4hours apart!

    You guys hang in there! We'll all have our visas in hand in no time!

    Lucky indeed!!! Although I bet that on some small level, its also frustrating being so close yet having to jump through the immigration hoops as well.

    It's a good thing I don't mind flying (used to it as I fly a lot with my job), so a 9.5 hour flight isn't too terrible.

    In the end, its all worth whatever we each have to deal with.

    I fell really ill on my last flight to the US and spend the whole flight back sleepy as I took calming pills. Now I'm a bit of a nervous flier and am dreading the 9/10 hour flight to Atlanta.

    Wow that must've sucked Laura...I hope hope that your future trips will go well.

    RBAL_TN : you are right I do feel lucky to be close, but it kills us the fact that we are so close yet so far and that we have to go through all the paperwork craziness.....aaargh! :(

  10. What a good idea Laura!

    I'm Julie from Montreal and my fiancé is Dexter, originally from Trinidad & Tobago, but now in Albany, NY. We met during carnival in Toronto, Canada. It wasn't instant love for me....I actually made him work. The reason is that we have a big age gap (close to 14yrs) and that he has children and was married before....but I'm glad I put all that aside and saw him for who he is.

    We have 2 beautiful daughters together: Dahlia 15months and Jade 2months...yeah we moved fast! Too bad that USCIS is not as fast as us! LOL I quit my job when I left for my maternity leave, but used to be a social worker in a shelther for refugee women, children and young girls. I loooooved my job and was very much involved...yeah I can say I miss it....He works in freight transportation.

    If all goes well (meaning if they let me through the border), we're going to Albany for 2 weeks to celebrate Thanksgiving with his family...I'll let you guys know.

    Nice to meet you all! ^_^

  11. I'm so relieved to see that other people say that they didn't want to go to the US...I thought it was only me and I feel guilty about feeling that way. The reason why I'm the one moving and not him is because he has other children and is very close to them. from the beginning I never wanted to take him away from his children. However, in the back of my head...until now, I wish he would move.

    I just looooooove living in Montreal, and the culture and values of Canada....not so sure about the States...plus we'll be living in Albany, NY anyone who's been there I'm sure can feel my pain! LOL Oh well....sacrifices we make for love!

  12. Hey,

    Here is a scanned copy of a photo copy of the Police certificate I sent the original of to the NVC. I took out all private info, but was wondering if this is the right one. Can someone tell me if it is? Thank you so much!!!

    pccns6.jpg

    It looks like it's from "Sûreté du Québec", the provincial police. He needs something from RCMP or GRC in French! ;) That way it will be bilingual

  13. nope, most likely will not apply for citizenship. I just can't picture myself choking out the oath :P

    I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen;

    that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic;

    that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same;

    that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law;

    that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law;

    that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and

    that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God.

    I won't become a US citizen, as I could never "absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen"....I love the U.S., would love to be able to vote here and my husband would love for me to become a citizen, but I will always, always have allegiance and fidelity to Canada. I couldn't make the above required statement in good conscience.

    It is sad that Canadians have to renounce Canada to have dual citizenship, but Canada doesn't require American citizens to renounce the U.S. to be dual citizens.

    PR will have to be sufficient for me.

    Annie

    I agree a 100%. same here...guess i'll have to forget working for the government.....

  14. Hi guys and gals!

    Someone had mentioned spouse's employment as being a factor for becoming a USC. I am wondering if this applies to me. My spouse will be is active duty military. There were lots of jobs on the base is he presently at the REQUIRED US citizenship. Do you think the military would require me to become a USC? or just a suggestion? If he ever gets stationed overseas and I am a PR not a USC would that present a problem? (As a side note he is transferring bases soon and will be required to go under review for a TS clearance, me being a non citizen, will that constitute extra review time, he tells me no)

    Thanks in advance!

    I'm guessing that you would have to be a USC to be in the military. I know that here in Canada, if you want to be in the army, you have to be a citizen. I also think they can help with the citizenship process, dunno if it's the same in the US. You should look into it.

  15. Why wouldn't I become one. And actually I've never of anyone denouncing their Canadian citizenship yet. I know you can, but haven't found or heard anyone actually going through the process and not even sure why you would. 2 is better then 1. I'm a citizen of North America, I can live and work where I want and when I want without having to renew any forms or renew documents or risk abandoning things like the Green Card if I moved away.

    I haven't seen any good reason not to apply to get both as there are definate benefits and no negatives as far as I can see (well other then jury duty), ok 1 negative...

    I don't know what would be the point either...and that is true of any citizenship. I think that we are lucky that both the US and Canada recognaize dual citizenship.
