  1. Thank you:) I have been feeling super nervous and telling my husband to answer accurately. But, trust me. He is super bad at dates and names. He keeps pronouncing my dad's name wrong and my birth place. Well, it is Japanese and also very hard to pronounce.

Also he sometimes thinks that my birth day is February 2nd. well, my birth day is February 1st :(

It is just how he is. Some people are not just good at those things. I am really good at memorizing dates and numbers and names. But, he is not.

So I am hoping that he will not mess up.

  2. When you went to AOS interview, did you and your spouse get interviewed separately?

My husband and I are preparing for our AOS interview.

So we are trying to match our answers. We have know each other for over 8 years, so it is pretty hard for us to remember exact dates or month.

And we did not really have engagement. We simply started talking about our future during our senior year at college.

I wonder how accurate it has to be.

We can tell both of our date of birth, where we are from, parents' names, etc.

  3. I will have my AOS interview very soon. I am pretty nervous. I collected as much information as possible. I just went to the courthouse and got my husband's birth certificate and our marriage certificate.

We have been trying to be able to answer common questions such as when we met, how long we dated, when we decided to marry things like that. We have know each other since 2000. So it has been a long time. It is sometimes hard to remember things.

We have not gone to honeymoon trip. We are planning on it in April. We are thinking about going to San Fransisco.

It has been too busy for my husband to get time off and also we did not save enough money for it.

    Any suggestions?

  4. I got my EAD on the 3rd of November. Well, my state ID was expired on 17th of Sept because my K1 visa was expired at that day.

Now, when I tried to renew my State ID, the lady on the phone said I need a document which proves that I can stay in the US for at least one year. Well, my EAD expires on 22nd of Oct 2009.

So she means that I have to wait to renew my state ID until I have my GC. My interview is in Dec.

    Anyone went through this?

I applied for a job and their wanted to me to put my state ID. Well, I told the HR lady that my state ID was expired and I could not renew it until I have a GC. She said it is ok, ID number will not change anyways.

Well, the company uses my SSN and state ID to do my background check. I am not using my state ID because it is expired anyways. I keep using my passport as my primary ID.

Am I in trouble? I wish I could get rid of my state ID, but I did not because I thought that I would need to return it to DMV when I renew my ID.

  5. It is good that you have a job. well, I was hired as a seasonal employee at Bath and Body works. It sucks.

They just hired so many people without giving almost no hours. So, technically I cannot even earn money so much. So little. It is insane.

I have heard that after holidays, a lot of seasonal people leave. So it is a chance to get some jobs.

I am planning to call back one job that I passed the interview.

It is crazy, but we have to be patient.

This economy is getting worse and worse.

  6. I applied so many places. Well, only places I could get to the interview was Disneyland, Macy's and bath and body works. It is pretty sad.

I wanted to work at Disney, and I actually did so well at interview. However, they hired a lot of seasonal people in OCT. OMG. I got my EAD in the beginning of November. So the HR lady who interviewed me said, I really want to hire you right now and I wish I could. But, there are no open positions now. From January, we will start contacting people.

She was very impressed by the way I presented myself and my qualification. I have a BA and speak two languages and have previous working experience in both US and Japan.

So, I wrote Thank you letter to her and now I am waiting for a call.Until January of February, I have nothing else to do, so I decided to apply some seasonal jobs. NO hit except Bath and Body works.

And I got a seasonal job there. BUT, I will not be able to get enough hours. They just hire tons of people with a few hours.

Macy's also, but it gives so much pressure to meet quota and sell credit cards. So I chose Bath and Body works.

Well, I even applied for Merven's. The store close to my house is closing and hiring people for a short time.

Do you think that it is much easier to get a job after Christmas or New year's?

Because a lot of employers already hired seasonal people.

I called up 5 places yesterday. even grocery stores. The same answer. They all hired seasonal people already.

  7. I have been doing job hunting very aggressively. Well, yep, it is the toughest time to do job hunting. I live in Orange County Ca. It is insane. No matter where I applied, there were so many people.

I went to Disneyland for interview on Monday. The HR lady loved me. She was impressed by my interview and she said you did really great job and I wish I could hire you right away, but sine there are no open positions, please wait until January. That is the time a lot of seasonal people leave and they are gonna start contacting people.

So until I get a call from Disney, I decided to do a seasonal holiday job. I will have an interview at Bath and Body works. Probably I will get only minimum wage. It is sad because I have a BA from American university. But, you know, it does not matter. In this bad economy, you are just lucky as long as you have a job.

It is better than not having any jobs.

  8. Thank you so much. Well, I am not planning to go back to school right now because of money. My husband decided to go back to grad school next fall.

I am trying to get at least part time work. I do not mind starting out as a part time worker and moving up.

I hope this economy will gets better soon.

I went to one major department store interview. Again, so many applicants. And most of them are in mid 40-50's. Wow.

    Let's hope everyone:)

  9. Thank you so much for sharing your experience.

I applied for Disneyland and I was asked to come back for an interview on Monday.

Nothing else. I applied for several other companies, but no nothing.

So I will try get a job there. I do not really care how much I can get paid or how many hours.

To be honest, I was asked to go to the final interview for one major retail department store.

But, in this economy, it is almost impossible to sell and open credit cards.

  10. Are you having a hard time looking for a job?

I just went to one major retail company for an interview. The only thing they offered me was minimum wage with small hours. I keep applying for many places, but nothing good so far. I have a BA and speak two languages. But, you know, the economy is so bad. I will have another interview on Monday, but I am not expecting anything so good.

Please share your experience. I am applying for a even regular cashier or sales positions. Nothing fancy.

  11. Hi, I am interested in hearing from people who live by themselves.

I am still living with my mother in law which is insanely not fun.

She is nice, but you know I want to have my privacy with my husband.

Now, I finally got my EAD and I am planning to work as soon as possible.

Once I get a job, we are planning to move to one bed room apartment.

I sometimes feel bad for my MIL because she is divorced and feels so lonely and wants to keep

living with my husband. Also she has a lot of financial trouble.

But, I need to start building my new life in the US with my husband.

How do you deal with in laws after marriage?

I really think that international marriage is hard to deal with since my spouse and his relatives are American.

  12. Hi, I will have my AOS interview soon.

Well, all the utility bills have my mother in law's name since I live with her.

So, I try to add my name on my husband's cell phone bill. ( Should have two names on the bill next month)

Now, we all rent this house together under her name. And my husband and I pay rent to her.

Is it ok to ask my mother in law to write a letter saying we live with her?

Also, my husband already owns a car before marriage and I do not drive.

I will have my state ID soon, but my name is not going to be on his car insurance.

We do have a shared bank account, credit cards, insurance cards( I am under his plan) and insurance statements sent to me. But, so far, we have no mail which have both my husband and my name together. My husband and I have a lot of mail which were sent to the same address such as my social security card, cell phone bill, bank statement etc.

Do I have to have the mail which has BOTH my name and his name????

  13. Did you change your last name after marriage? I did not change my last name.

My husband last name is kind of weird and I did not want to change my last name to his last name. Also

I want to carry my last name to honor my family.

I do not have any relatives or family members and maintaining my last name makes me feel still close to my family members. If I change my last name, I will feel a distance from my family. I think it is cultural.

I will have an AOS interview soon. Do you think that IO will bug me about not changing my last name?

How did you explain to IO? nothing like I do not love my husband. I just did not see myself to change my last name. Especially my family wants me to keep my last name.

  14. I am about to go to an interview! This will be my first job in the US as a fulltime. I used to work on campus for one year when I went to college. But, it was just a student job. Now, this will be my first real job.

How did you feel about your first job as a non native speaker?

How did you handle the problems?

    Please share your experience:)

My husband wants me to get a high position, but I do not have good amount of working experience. And in this economy, job hunting is very hard for everyone:(

  15. I am so nervous. I will go to the HR at Disneyland soon. I have to dress up professionally because they are more likely to give me an interview there. I am pretty excited. I do not mind what I do, but I am thinking about applying for Disney desk or guest research.

How was your job interview experience? I do not speak English as my first language, so I might mess up some questions.

    Ahhh I am so nervous!

  16. Ok, I have question about legal resident.

I came here with K1 visa and married my husband immediately. And my AOS interview is in December. My EAD has been approved. When I apply for jobs, they always ask my status like are you resident? or legal resident?

So what should I say? I am not a legal resident, but I am here legally????

Obviously being able to obtain EAD means that you are here legally. Please help me!!!!
