  1. I am goin to renew my Philippine Passport anytime soon. I was thinking if I should get my 10 mos old son a Philippine Passport too or he can just get US passport since he is an American citizen? Do I have to bring my son at the Consulate too if i will get him Philippine Passport? What are the requirements?

It's a shame I have to go all the way to NEW YORK just to renew my passport coz that's where the Philippine Consulate is for those living in New Jersey.

  2. My Philippine Passport expired last year. I still haven't renewed it since I got pregnant, didn't get chance to go to New York to renew it. I wonder if my passport needs to be renewed since I am going to file for the removal of condition on residency? I don't wanna get screwed just because of my passport.

Can anyone please enlighten me on this matter?

    Thanks in advance.

Have a meaningful Holy Week everyone!

  3. Hi everyone! Thank you for those sincere comments and suggestions. Update: I am still JOBLESS.:D I am actually on the verge of losing my sanity but thanks to social networking sites like facebook. I received a call from one company I applied online last month as instructional assistant. The HR Manager who called was hesistant at first to ask me if I am willing to try it out with them for that position since I have my master's degree. My education will not be reason for me not to accept entry level position, what is important for me is just to set my foot in the door, you know what I mean. But the location is too dangerous for me, not to mention that it is at the Corrections where I will be working supposedly. I was left with no other choice but to decline the invitation. The Manager was too nice and I told her maybe the position is not meant for me. She even asked me if I want she can forward my resume for the Case Manager position. I was thrilled....only to find out that it will be on the same location. :crying: I guess it is really not for me.

I tried keeping myself busy, still filling out forms online.... Never give up on it and finding the JOY of NOT WORKING.:)

  4. Hi,

I received about 2 weeks ago this email:

    Initial Review

The I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS was transferred and is now being processed at a USCIS office. You will be notified by mail when a decision is made, or if the office needs something from you. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

2 days later I received the mail stating that my case was transferred to California Service Center.

Today I received an other email from USCIS stating excatly the same thing:

The I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS was transferred and is now being processed at a USCIS office. You will be notified by mail when a decision is made, or if the office needs something from you. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

Does it mean that my case was transferred again to an other office or is only a touch??????

    Thanks!!!!!

Being transferred to CSC is a good sign. I just got an email from them informing me that my I485 is approved. :) No interview.:) Sometimes they will email you same thing, or if you check your status online, it is not reliable. The fact that your application was transferred to CSC, that is good.

  5. Hi all,

Got a letter today saying our I-485 package has been transferred to the CSC and that office will notify us of the decision on our petition. From what I read here, this seems to be a good thing. Any other thoughts or experiences?

Hi! Same thing happened to our case last October it was transferred to CSC and just yesterday I received an email that my application is approved. No interview.:) Good luck!

  6. My experience in NJ is that they are terrible drivers & the accent is obnoxious... my bad you meant about getting a job

Well i have seen the worst when it comes to driving... Crazy drivers are found in the Philippines. I think the drivers in NJ are pretty okay compared to where I came from. Not a prob with me. I can handle it pretty well.

  7. Patience

would you mind sharing your experiences in gettin a job here in NJ?

hahaha yeah phil. I just wanna know if there are some members who are from my place...Maybe we could meet up or something, at least make me feel i am not alone in this battle.lol Did you see one of the response in my post regarding finding jobs?tellin me to work as waitress in Gentleman's Club lol. I am not that desperate.:)

  8. just last night i was feeling weird, hopeless until this morning when i received an email from USCIS about my case status. Thank God! Never lose hope, that is one thing that we should bear in mind and PATIENCE....Though mine was kinda running thin last night about job hunting. :)

Thanks Phil! Is your wife working now?

Times are tough right now here in the US. What type of job do you want? Try meeting others in your area and spend time talking with them.

Networking is your best bet now.

Let as many people as possible know you are looking and I am sure someone will have a friend of a friend who knows this guy....

    Good Luck.

Hi everyone! I got my EAD last month, and soon as I received it,I started sending resume online, filling out applications online. It's been a month now and there are no calls I receive for job interview at least.

How did you guys get a job? Any suggestions/tips would be greatly appreciated.

I am not picky, I just want a job. I've been trying sites like snagajob.com, i applied at DD online and it is so frustrating how they could say you are not qualified for the job only after answering few simple questions. I find it unfair for them to screen their applicants that way.

    I am getting frustrated.

Thanks Phil! I worked as Psychology Professor in Philippines. I know it won't be easy to land in the same job here in the states that's why I do not mind getting whatever job is available. It is really a big adjustment for me. I am here in New Jersey.

  10. Hi,

I am a teacher and used to be a substitute teacher. What I had to do was just go to the school district main office, ask about substitute teaching, and then they give you the application and things needed to fill out, then you pay the fees, attend some orientation meetings and safety meetings. You can apply to several different districts, if you are able to get to travel to different locations, and once you are in their system, they will call you to substitute.

You will probably start out just with day to day jobs. Sometimes the school systems have a phone system set up where you can call to see what jobs are available for that day and accept them. Once they become familiar with you and see how well you work with the children, a particular teacher may start to request you. Also, the principle can see how well you work and you will get more work, and possibly longer term assignments.

Depending on the district, you may only need a Bachelor's Degree to substitute. Down here in the south, you don't even need that. But to be a long term substitute, in one position for a semester, for example, you need to be highly qualified for that grade level. Again, sometimes there are exceptions. There are also substitutes for teacher's aides, which is another possibility.

Interestingly, I used to live in San Francisco, and there were a lot of teachers from your country working in the SF school district. They said that their training at home was aligned with the U.S.'s. Maybe things have changed.

Hi!thank you for your response. I will be applying for substitute teacher certification and hopefully il get a job. I only had an internship in montessori school for couple of months but my professional experience in teaching is actually in College. My major is Psychology. I hope there won't be a problem with it.

  11. How long did your I-485 application take? Which service center?

just last night i was feeling weird, hopeless until this morning when i received an email from USCIS about my case status. Thank God! Never lose hope, that is one thing that we should bear in mind and PATIENCE....Though mine was kinda running thin last night about job hunting. :)

Try craiglist.org, mostly Filipina here in our place work at Cub or other groceries....

Do your have TOR? I am a public school teacher in the Phil and I am qualified to teach in College in our country with many national seminars and certificates, but since I am in America they have high standard since we have different curriculum. In my case they need a course-by-course credential evaluations in my TOR.

It depends upon the work and what they requires.

    Good luck!!!

Yeah i brought all my credentials.I tried checking schools here in NJ, il be applying for substitute teacher certificate wherein my TOR will be evaluated since we have different grading systems in Phils and then hopefully il be able to work as substitute teacher. There was one school who did not ask for any teaching certifications, they simply asked if i have my masters.Good thing I have finished my masters. It will take time to get teaching job that's why I am tryin my luck in finding whatever jobs available.

Try www.careerbuilder.com. Good Luck on job hunting! :star:

i check that too everyday:) thanks.

Yep, it's hard to get teaching job here in US. I paid for credential evaluations that I will use for licensing or employment purpose. Mine is just $125 combine bachelor and masteral and that evaluator is accredited by NACES, some asked for $250-$350 for combine credentials (Course-by-Course).

I do not yet receive the evaluations but I probably try my luck in what ever job available too. :) because it's hard to find teaching jobs.

From the application form i filled out, it says that after filing the form, il be able to receive the substi certificate after 8-10 working days. Yup the fee is $125 and $70 for fingerprinting. Good luck to us. Yeah any job will do. I will be very happy if i get a job soon, whatever it is.lol

Can you give me an idea about substitute teacher certificate? What I did is credential evaluation as part of the requirements for licensing... I can use it for employment purpose but that is not a certification. If I am qualify for licensing examination I need the fingerprinting too. Here the fingerprinting is just $10-$15.

I know what you feel, we both working in the Philippines, buy whatever we want... then we are here jobless!!!

But we may not have a job as of now but we have someone who loves us... and we must be thankful for that. For sure we will have our luck.

My mother in law is a teacher in grade school and she advised me to take substitute teacher certificate so i can work in elementary school. It is easier to get a job. Try to google it "substitute teacher certificate"in your area. You can check it with the District school too.

Try Craiglist, but be careful about some advertisements that are too good to be true. Try also Monsters.com. A lot of retails stores like Walmart are hiring workers for the holidays.

I've been checking craiglist every now and then and also monster.com...:( It is harder since I have to consider location.I haven't gotten my DL yet, i dont have car either.

  17. Hard to land a job here nowadays.

Do you drive yet? I'm still learning so I'm stuck at home all the time.

I've not seen anything remotely interesting or good paying in the last month that I've been job hunting.

I don't drive here yet but I do drive in Philippines. I thought il be having hard time driving here coz you know there is no laws in driving back home lol. I did not even take driving exam, my mom just paid for it. They drive slow here....

I am also stuck at home...Do you have ym? where you from?
