  1. How do you get biometrics earlier than the appointment date, do you just show up without telling them? How long did you have to wait?

You just go there earlier without telling them. I have not heard of a case yet where they would reject the people coming in too early. This danger exists but in most cases the offices don't seem to care too much. I did it the same way and I doubt they even noticed. No one checked my appointment date or said anything about it and I was in and out in 30 minutes.

Thanks a lot, Chibby! I really look forward to starting my job this monday. Finally!! Will get some more sun this weekend and relax a bit before the busy times are back.

Happy weekend to all and good luck job searching!!

  2. When I looked for jobs I mainly tried looking for jobs that even they would be underneath the level what I did back home could provide me with some added skills in the future so that I can advance in the long term. I think this is most important for your job search so that you don't end up doing 1000 different things with no real track.

If I would get the job my interview was for then yes, I would be doing exactly what I did back home just in a lot smaller firm, which is alright for me as the working hours are much less than what I am used to.

  3. Don't worry. You'll be fine even if you guys will have to go to an interview. Just be prepared and get both of your names on your car titles, bank accounts, lease contracts etc.

I had my job interview today and it really looks good guys! I will know for sure tomorrow as they have to interview the other person tomorrow afternoon. I am hoping, because I really like this position and company. And the best is they would be willing to work with me if I have to wait some more for the EAD. Cross your fingers for me!

  4. We always have to have some German chocolate around. My (American) husband doesn't like the American chocolate anymore ever since he had tasted the European one. So now my parents send us care packages or we go to the German market in town. Oh, and Target sells RitterSport here. It is not as good as Kinderschokolade but still good enough! :)

  5. I don't have my EAD yet but I am looking for jobs. I think you can never start too early. I mention my AOS process and haven't eally had any negative responses to that.

Really? I lost a $80,000 job this morning because of that...I had been honest about it and the e-verified my employement eligibility, in the meantime the HR person that dealt with my case had changed and basically told me to piss off and that she would proceed with the next US citizen...

Really?? I am sorry. I guess this happened with a big company though? I always mention it in my cover letter and I talked to the guy during my first phone interview very frankly about it. I guess if they had a problem with it they wouldn't even invite me for another round. But maybe I am just lucky since the company is really small and one of the founders (and the one I talked to) is British himself and was in the same situation 2 years ago... I hope my EAD gets here soon!!! Fingers crossed.

  6. Tihana, if you are looking for work in retail try and go to a mall close by and go look if they have signs outside that they are hiring or even go inside and ask. If they hire, they will give you an application to fill out. That is the best way to do as most jobs are not even to be found online. My husband got his part-time job like that within 2 weeks when we needed it!!

I also have an interview scheduled for a job next week. I am very excited and just hope it will work out as this would definitely be my dream job!! :)

  7. Sorry for your pain!

Do you have proof that she was payed by her ex for the GC?

Is there any way to be able to go until august, get your removal of conditions and then file for divorce? And then I would consider talking to USCIS about her actions. I mean #######?! Don't let her know about your intentions otherwise I am almost sure she will make you pay for your GC so that she doesn't ruin the interview for you in August.

If waiting until August is no option and you didn't just come for the GC then I would really get on the next flight home. This woman doesn't deserve anyone to stay with her to pay her bills. And you deserve better treatment too.

    Good luck!

  8. I think the system works fine even if people go earlier than their appointment dates. Because what is the probability of all of the early birds come in on the same day? None. This also means that more people can be served on the day the early bird would have had his/her appointment. This spot will then probably be taken by another early bird. I think USCIS offices would still be fine if everyone went after he/she got his letter but before the date. It would get so mixed up that it doesn't matter whether you appoint dates or not. Plus, almost all of us can't work I guess so it is not even the case that there are peak times (say after 5pm when work is over)...

I also went early and was in and out in 30 minutes. There were hardly any people there at all so what is the point of assigning appointment dates (or maybe they all already went on earlier dates). :P
