Hello to all visajourney people. You guys are awesome for helping each other and giving advices! I was a visajourney baby... I must say!

Here is my problem:

Recently, I went to DMV to get a state ID and learners permit. I passed the learners permit and now I'm doing a driving lesson here even though I have been driving ever since I got here because of my international license. I just don't have the confidence yet to do the behind-the-wheel test.

I went home saw my permit. I didn't notice they made a mistake about my height. I am only 5 feet and I put there 5'0.. guess what? they put 5'10 on both learners permit and i think also state ID. Now this is my dilemma. I went back and said I should be able to change it when i have my behind-the-wheel test. I forgot to ask them about the height on my state ID. Oh well... I'm thinking to just wait til it arrives on mail and go there and have them fix it.

My husband is making fun of me that i still have enough time to grow! lol (its been a sensitive topic).

I'm thinking should i go there and change it when i receive my state ID? (they said its not a big deal but i don't want the police think that I forged my documents). I don't have my state ID yet but it should arrive anytime soon. I'm confused if i should go now or wait til it arrives.

I used to have an international drivers license from the Philippines but as soon as i became a permanent resident my license was no longer valid. I think its only intended for visitors and tourist. I also tried going to DMV using only my passport and got rejected because my I-94 was almost expired. So I waited for my green card and went there again. No hassle, no line. I arrived at 7:30AM (it was in Fremont, CA.) was first in line and they were nice to me. I only had to present my greencard that's all. Then I took the eye exam (which was merely reading letters from a distance) passed it.

My friend gave me a CA drivers handbook (but you can also download it from their website) I studied it religiously for 1 week. I passed the test and got only 3 mistakes lol. It's a bit tricky and I must say i was brain dead in the morning. I couldn't picture it out (i mean the road situation).

yea that is also my question... how the heck did she get an immigrant visa??! for a typical Filipino like her ( i mean like.. no stable job, no business, no money to support herself) it seems impossible. Am i just losing my mind?

I have the same problem dealing with evil CFO supposed-to-be-seminar. I just gave them everything I gave US embassy all the papers and stuff coz i thought i didn't need anymore hassle in my life. We spent too much problem dealing with NVC and CIS already.

went there monday and my flight was tuesday and was told that their computer is down and wont be up til thursday. See how third world is that? to think that it isn't even rocket science to fix a computer and printer that prints the certification that I attended them so called "seminar" and one more thing.. how can a "seminar" be mandatory anyway?!? it's like a matter of you boarding out of the country or not. They don't respect the decision of US EMBASSY, CIS and NVC. Clearly, when you have a visa it means you already passed their through background check.. i just don't understand ####### it is a mandatory class?

Oh well.. all is done and I'm with my husband and living our lives happily and forgetting all the horror stories dealing with people from the government.

ohh i see... if that's the case then I will just wait for my green card to arrive in mail

hello to everyone here!!! My green card is approved good for 2 years (conditional green card) and I'm waiting for it to arrive in mail. I received the welcome letter 2 days ago and says there within 3 weeks i should have it. Well, it hasn't been three weeks but I just want to ask if I can apply for a learners permit with only my EAD card?

For those who might want to know why i still have my EAD card is because it arrived the same day during our AOS interview. When we got home from AOS we saw the EAD in the mail. It doesn't really matter whether i have it or not because I will have my green card soon. I just want to have a learners permit so I can drive around.

I used to have an international drivers license but as soon as I got approved I stopped driving because it's only good for visitors in the USA.

not from San Francisco mismo but I live in Fremont just an hour away from San Francisco.

it's usually the petitioners job to cancel it not hers.. who submitted it should be the one to cancel it. Tell her to tell the ex-fiance to write a formal letter to USCIS or even just call and tell them they are canceling the petition.

Thanks for the info.. I guess i have to go there again and get a new passport instead of ammending it. Will need to wait for state ID so i will have ID just in case I don't have a passport for 6 weeks.

do i need to apply for renewal of passport even though mine will expire on 2012?

hmmm... I'm surprised about that.. do they have rights to ask anybody's nationality?

Thank god it's all done and we're approved! yay! The interviewer was so nice and she is a Pinay. She just asked us typical questions a couple should know. Like date of marriage, how we met, where we stayed, if he met my parents etc.. etc.. It went smoothly as if we were just having a normal conversation.

The interview was in San Francisco 02/17. It was raining so hard and we couldn't find a place to park along the road. Oh well... just happy that it's all done. I also got my EAD card that same day but I don't think it matters now.

Then, we went to Phil consulate since its just near from the Immigration office to ammend my passport (change it to my married name). So, went there but they are telling me to go back the next day which is impossible because my husband has to work. My husband and I are planning to go to the Philippines sometime in May.

Do you think it will have a conflict or problems if my green card name is on my married name and my passport is on my single name? Should i just bring my marriage certificate? because if i would have a problem... I will just wait for my green card to arrive then apply a state ID and driver's license then send off my passport to the Phil Consulate in San Francisco... it says on the website you can send it (not really sure though).

my husband had his interview in san francisco 3weeks ago...we didn't have a ton of photos from the wedding since we married at san fran city hall. but it was fine frankly our adjudicator was more interested in photos of us with the other person's family over wedding photos. additionally she was very interested in the information reflecting our comingling of finances. if you have a lease or mortgage in both names they are very interested in that too. i hope that helps. good luck to you!!!

Thanks for all the replies it really helps me to calm. My husband said to not worry about it. We filed our joint taxes for 2008 so I think its a good evidence. I printed couple of pictures and just like you guys we didn't have a lot of wedding pictures because we only got married at Oakland courthouse and we are planning to have the big wedding celebration in the Philippines so my family can attend too.

I think i might just go to walmart and get printer paper and print some of the pictures here from my laptop than wait for the pictures to arrive -sigh-

let them marry whoever they want to marry. Who are we to judge? If they are doing it because they are desperate or not.. It's really none of our business, right? Philippine government is evil and should focus more on how to make new jobs for Filipino people and stop corruption. Human being are curious species just like any other and what they don't have from how they were raised would rise curiousity and eventually try it. There is no problem in marrying foreign people.. It's how people see it from the other race... the problem. Usually we are too busy minding someone else's business because we are bored or we just don't have a lot of interesting things thats happening in our lives.... but seriously... leave them alone. Let them have whatever life they want for themselves and their families because you would feel the same.

My AOS interview will be on Feb 17, 2009 Tuesday at 12:30PM in San Francisco. I'm really getting nervous.. I have all the evidence.. Everything that I submitted I made a copy. Just worried about how it will go. We don't have a lot of wedding pictures because we got married at a courthouse in Oakland, CA. Would it matter? I have a lot of pictures on my celphone though and I printed some of our pictures together but won't be ready til the 20th of Feb. I have the receipts that I printed it. Our evidences... insurance for medical, dental, our phone plan, joint bank account, my prescriptions, netflix (im including it because its being addressed under my name) greeting cards that we got during our wedding and Christmas.

even which side the husband sleeps?! wow thats too personal.. i guess.. WE sleep in the same room but not in the same bed because he has single bed. We just have extra single bed and he puts it on the floor to sleep. We are still saving on getting a king sized bed. I hope this is not gonna be an issue for us. My GC interview will be on Feb 17. I'm already nervous about it!

you don't want to do that... in the US the law is that you can't get birth control pills unless its prescribed to you. If they caught you, there might be some consequences because obviously you are getting birth control pills from the Philippines when they have birth control pills here. You are ignoring their law here if thats the case. I wouldnt want to continue that if i were you.

you know what? thats exactly what im experiencing right now! pero hindi naman niya tinatago sa akin yon.. nakapadisorganize niya lang talaga. Ang ginawa ko e shred ko lahat ng pictures ng mga girls nya before. And about sa pictures naman nila ng dati niyang asawa with his daughter... I put them all in one cd.. copied and paste it and i gave it to his daughter. Lagi din naming pinag aawayan yan grabe! I know what you feel.. since you really cant help itl talaga na maging jealous. Siempre once in his life "they were having sex and accidentally made a baby" -sigh- thats how i see it.

So i gave all the pictures to his daughter... EVERYTHING.. I told him I never want to see any pictures of her here in OUR house.. you and your daughters pictures are fine but not with HER. If ever i see one I'll delete them or shred them. Thats what I told him... coz I feel like how are we gonna start a relationship when I keep on seeing your DAMN EX WIFE? are you stuck up with her? have you moved on already? Coz if you havent then... let's end what we have now.

Girl you have to be strong.. don't let the ex wife nor the daughter intimidate you ok? You are the WIFE now and the most IMPORTANT part of his LIFE! Remember that! Don't let them bring you down! Be tough! I know you can handle it. I have more sympathy about this case because people don't understand how it feels to be in this situation.

hi guys, first dont get me wrong im very happy with my husband and our life right now..i know that i should just wait for stuffs to come when they are due (i.e, ead , ap and gc) but that's not my concern.. i need a friend, someone i can call, talk to maybe online but someone i can meet up, have a coffee with some laugh talk about anything and everything.. i got a lot of friends here in vj i know but i need someone i can see, hug and you get what i mean?

Hello to everybody here! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

I just had my biometrics done at Oakland, California. They were almost empty there and it took me about 10minutes to do everything. Didn't expect it to be so fast but I'm glad it was. Finding a parking spot was a pain in the ### though.. took us 20 minutes to find the right spot, thought i'd be late. Well anyways....

I just wanna ask how long do i need to wait for my EAD card and the interview for the Green card? Thanks!

I just want to share my experience again Yesterday we went to SSN office to inquire about my card why it hasn't arrived in two weeks. Then I told them if they can put it under my married name... he did. He gave me another receipt telling me that my new SSN card with my married name on it will arrive after two weeks again -sigh- Well at least i have my ssn now. I will be able to get CA driver's license, state ID and open bank accounts.

Also another good news... they already cashed the check! yey... I'm hoping to receive the receipt from them anytime soon.
