Life is full of twists and turns. It seems like the more you like doing something at work the less likely you are to be able to do it in the long run. You get promoted away from it.

Senior Personnel in the Epidemiology Dept for Flagler County Dept. of Health.
Really? I just started working on a MPH degree. What is your background?
I also got a job and start Monday as a graphic designer for MAQ Software.Congratulations! What a difference a year makes...

If you can get another copy resent from the doctor who did the medical, try that.
Also, it can be faster to call your Senator, tell them your medical was lost and have them call their rep who can check the A file. Infopass is a waste of time.
This happened to us and we had to redo the complete medical here in the US. We couldn't easily get a copy from the doctor in Brazil and the medical wasn't in our A file either.
Good Luck.

It's good to see things are going good for everyone. No big news here, just same old work and school. It's nice to see some posts here too. It's like everyone came out of the woodwork all of the sudden. Do you guys spend much time on VJ?

It seems like the I 765 takes 90 days and the AOS app takes 4 months or maybe Im wrong and this whole AOS process takes a couple of years...
The best way to do it is to file AOS, EAD and AP all at the same time for $1010. Generally things go like you said, but you never know with the government. Better to be safe than sorry if a good job offer comes along or you all need to travel outside of the US for some reason. AOS shouldn't take years though. Good Luck.

He has made it to round 3 of the interviews for the German-speaking IT job at Valve, and will have another interview on the 18th - this time with the entire international support/translations staff, about a dozen people. We are so hopeful; it'd be a nice salaried position at a company he just loves.
Congratulations to you guys. Valve makes great games, I bet he'll get the job. Nobody goes this far without getting some kind of offer (IMO).

How is everyone? Did anyone hear from ErinmeetsJohnny? How is everyone doing with their employment situations?
Haven't heard anything from E&J. Still have my same job; my wife hasn't found anything yet. We aren't trying too hard though.

The way some people go on about this you would think that the time spent separated from your loved one involved at least one of you being stuck in federal pound-me-in-the-a$$ prison in the interim, with frequent taser sessions and a diet of gruel. (Please note -- I said VWP countries.)
I love Office Space.

It was a crushing blow... albeit one that I did think was coming... still - was a good game (at least the first quarter). I'm still mourning.
How is everyone?!?!?!
I watched that last play and thought, just run for the first down marker Favre and you're going to the Super Bowl; you know the rest. I think it is cool New Orleans could go, but Peyton is gonna destroy them unless they really step up.
We're good here; nothing really new, just work and school. The lull before the removal of conditions storm.

Brett Favre strikes again Shannon.
Anyone heard from Sham?

If you need a hotel, the Hotel Ibis Rio de Janeiro Santos Dumont was good for us and it is only 0.7 km from the consulate and it is close to Santos Dumont Airport.

Have any of you started figuring out your tax situation? We have started and it is so confusing - particularly the foreign income exclusion...
We haven't yet. The plan here is to just pay and have a pro do it.

There are no boyfriend's visas, and you can get a red flag by doing this. Good luck!
Exactly what I was thinking. So what is he?
-
Did you file for employment authorization? Having the SSN doesn't mean you can work.
Beyond that, not filing AOS just means you'll be out of status with your life on hold that much longer. Since your I-94 is already expired not much will really change in the next 2 months.

Just waiting on the immigration interview paperwork so we can book travel and obtain the proper medical records!!
Cool, good to hear.

And just for the record: Down with Facebook!

Or you could just file an ammended tax return for whatever year it was....?

Well, we have two ideas.
The first is to email the consulate in Rio and ask them what they recommend. You can't be the first person to need this certificate from that state. They can answer email in English but it might be easier if your SO emails them.
Second, have your SO talk to a despachante where she lives and see if they can advise her. My wife did that in Sao Paulo when we got her certificate.
The form they complete is called the Requerimento Para Atestado De Antecedentes Criminais. Somewhere on that form it mentions the ....Seguranca Publica.
Hopefully that helps.

I don't think it is a different states have different names thing. Look here:

Try contacting them. I wouldn't count on dealing with managers at the NVC. It's a million times easier to send the right document than it is to talk to managers or your senator, etc.

We've done everything from K-1 to AOS without an attorney and there was never any point where one would have been helpful. We had a straightforward case.

Thank you so much.
This cleaned up ALOT of my questions I had.
TracyN. Thank you for the link that is very very helpful.
I mean cleared
No problem. As long as you arrive with everything they want it is pretty painless.

All of the interviews are in Rio for K1/K3

My wife was the one interviewed. They asked her basic stuff like how we met, hobbies I had and about people in the pictures. They had background on me that wasn't in the application (I have a pilot's license); so be ready for off the wall questions. It seems like they ask some questions looking for an answer they already know. Other than that, the questions are all things someone in a real relationship would know. Where you work, what you do, things like that. The interview was in Portuguese so language isn't something to worry about either.

When we went in May of last year we brought all of the forms to the consulate. They scheduled the interview without us sending anything to them. The consulate's website lists everything you need for the interview. Checking the guides might be good too.

Same thing happened to us, whoever answers email is slow but it seems like it took less than 2 weeks for them to get their act together.
