  1. Do I need I-551 stamp for travel now? Or is it after approval before new GC arrives? Any clarifications will be super helpful as I am planning to travel in a couple of weeks!!! Sorry if it is a millionth time rehashed question around here!!!

I'd just bring the expired GC and the extension letter you received when you filed for removal of conditions.

An example of what happens without the letter:

  2. hey guys! i was wondering why CSC is stopped right now? I mean, i am looking everyday in the timeline on igor´s list, and just the K1 visa is being approved @ this time. The last K3 aproved was on dec 7th 2011. I have 155 days waiting since we apply for the K3 and my husband just call USCIS yesterday and they said the CSC is back up. They said it will be another 48 days on top of the five month wait that we have already endured.

    Any help, or idea?

And, why the K1 visa is faster than K3?

    Thank you all!

We filed in July 08 and were approved in February 09. It seems like CSC and VSC go in cycles. Nothing I ever did made it go faster including contacting my congressman and senator. Our whole group was approved before us.

I know waiting is miserable but I'd try to find something else to focus on together as much as possible. CSC is a waste of energy. Good luck!

  3. Different person this time, didn't see the first one anywhere. She knew it was my second visit, and she knew what machine was used the first time, so used the other.

She said I have faint prints, but I guess I had worked that out. She did them twice, on the first go round 9 out of ten came up accepted, with my right ring finger not co-operating. Second time around 3 came up rejected in red, including the same finger from the first go round.

She said they would not expect me to come for a third try, but had no idea what they would do. She seemed a bit surprised at the lengths they have to go to if this lot fail.

You'd think they would do it the old fashioned way at this point. The government is so strange.

  4. The saga continues.... We were up early and out the door, back to Memphis TN for more fingerprints. The machine once again failed to capture a decent set, no matter what she tried 3 of them kept showing rejected. I will doubtless end up having to produce a police clearance for every place I've lived in the last few years. From what I've been able to search out here, we also get an interview as an added bonus prize.

To add insult to injury, the west bound lanes of the highway are closed for roadwork, and we were rerouted back through downtown Memphis, and West Memphis, pretty shady looking area really. There were 2 signs, Detour, and Detour Ended, the rest of the time we were wondering if we were even on the right road, and it added 45 minutes to the trip back.

And in case we hadn't already had enough fun for the day, we got pulled over for speeding. There is a little hole in the wall town that has a lowered speed limit for 500 yards. We were going 40 in a 35. The charming cop says as it is the holiday season they have a zero tolerance policy. $130 thank you very much.

    Buy a home in Memphis?

  5. Wife and baby are home safe. LAN did not offer anything and asked her to pay $2,499 for the next flight (the next day) with 2 stops to SFO. Since we had the non-stop to LA Korean Air ticket in hand ($1,500), she flew back with them and after a short stop in the back room at Immigration in LAX - they always do that for her - she was in my arms at 10pm Dec. 31st. Jan. 1st was a beautiful and warm day.

Thank you all for your support... and remember, always carry the original documents from immigration everywhere ;)

Any chance you could call your credit card company and dispute part of the original charge since she didn't get to fly back...?

  6. Anyone has experience sending letters from the US to Brazil? Which company did you use? which one is more reliable, if any?

I am thinking FedEx, UPS, TNT, USPS...

We have used FedEx multiple times. We never had any problems including times when we sent things of significant value. Things arrived on time, no significant delays. My wife used to live just outside of Sao Paulo. We've also sent things USPS (with what seems like only 1 minor problem) but for something like this I'd lean toward FedEx.

Hopefully things will run smoothly going forward.

  7. The whole process is pretty scripted by the government. If he got a medical he couldn't do anything with it because you guys haven't even really started the process yet. Clicking on guides might help you...there is almost nothing you can do to speed it up. It takes the time it takes.

About all you can do is make sure you have vaccination records and that kind of stuff done I guess.

What exactly do you mean by dry? Why wouldn't you disclose the pregnancy? You have to convince the government you have a real relationship so...

  9. I am wondering if anyone had a situation similar to mine and went through K-1 visa process (I am not sure we will be doing this but looking into it). My (Indian) boyfriend is 18 years younger. Our relationship is now four years old. I met him in India, I have been back many times, including all of last year, and he has been to the U.S twice to see me on a tourist visa. We have plenty of evidence that our relationship is "real." Because of our age difference I expect the spotlight will be shown on us extra brightly. Anyone have any experiences/advice to relate?

In our group of filers (July 08) there was a woman who was 20 years older than her SO from Australia. I know it isn't the same as coming from India but the age gap is similar. They were approved.
