  1. Oh Al Gore's house! The Gore Hard-On has entered the thread.

    :bonk:

At every provable point HAL is wrong.

SInce it's you HAL, I will give a hint

    THOMAS F________M?

"Hot, Flat, and Crowded: Why We Need a Green Revolution--and How It Can Renew America"

    ooops, hal got pwned.

There's some unbiased refereeing B) In reality Danno has been filling in for Joe today, which means he's been getting beat down like Urkel in a UFC match with Brock Lesnar.

so you're saying that is al gore's house then?

I'm saying Danno's comments are 50% hot air & 50% horse manure. I didn't even factor Al Gore into the conversation.

  3. You lefties are so predictable.. it's well it's laughable.

This piece focusses on two americans, one a Black president and another American who claims he is not black.

    Even though the

article clearly states this has nothing to do with RACE, color is all you see!

    It's rather sad.

and of course it;s also shallow to use race to avoid discussing the merits of substance ... which has nothing to do with race.

    TSK tsk tsk

Danno everyone is laughing at your ridiculous attempts to tear down Obama with nonsensical comparisons like this one. This isn't a "lefty" conspiracy; its calling a ####### a #######. Furthermore just because the author threw in a sentence that his article isn't about race doesn't make it true. How often have people made rascist remarks but prefaced them by saying "I'm not a racist, but....."??? It happens all the time. Personally I think it's more about sour grapes than race, but that's just my opinion.

PLease quote for me the part that is Racist, obviously I missed it.

:wow: You totally missed my point... I clearly said that the article is about sour grapes (race might be an underlying factor but its hard to say). However my other point is valid (you totally missed this one as well)... that throwing in a sentence that "this isn't about race" is meaningless. Readers will judge the merits of an article on its substance, not a one liner from the author.

  5. Danno this is worse than your usual garbage... and that is saying a lot. Tiger Woods is a great golfer but a flawed individual. The media put him on a pedestal & he got knocked off. The lesson here is don't put people on pedestals & the whole Obama is a messiah BS was started by right wingers with sour grapes, so to single him out & compare Obama to Woods is yet another sad attempt to discredit Obama.

Obama is flawed too... so is every politician... so don't make this yet another political statement because the Tiger Woods saga has zero to do with Obama or politics. FAIL

  6. It really makes one wonder if the foment that led to the dissolution of the Whigs and creation of the GOP a century and a half ago may be repeating today. Are we looking at the end of the GOP as we've known it, and creation of a some new alignment based upon neo-conservatives in one faction, and more centrist Republicans in yet another? For those who believe that America's two-party system must remain static and eternal, here's some food for thought.

Here we go again. Name the other countries that have had the same winning political parties they've had for about 150 years without a break?

It can seen as a testament to stability that in a diverse country, there's no real upheavel bad enough to led to the disintegration of either party. Predictions of the death of the parties are greatly exaggerated.

The seeds to the defeat of the Democrats, were lain in their 2008 victory unless Obama and crew stage a very big recovery.

ALC you gloss over the fact that there is currently a lot of dissention in both parties... conservatives vs moderates in the Republican party & liberals vs. moderates in the Democratic party. The rifts are significant & appear to be growing. Granted we generally agree that the creation of a third party is unlikely, but to pretend that turmoil doesn't exist is misguided.

  7. This fear mongering worked then..... (carter was elected a year later and he congress implemented all types of changes).

The only fall out to this scam was it helped create a generation of sceptics which were indoctrinated in schools all across the country at the time (my school system included).

As the latest scam "global Warming" is crumbling, just imagine the fallout?

Case in point... Danno thinks the global warming theory is some sort of conspiracy. His mind is made up & don't confuse him with facts!

  8. This reminds me of a Lieutenant that I went to my Officer Basic Course with. He refused to believe in evolution & when I mentioned the fact that they have found countless fossils of dinosaurs his entire point of view was based on one case where the fossil was actually a bone from a elephant or something. My point is science is wrong from time to time (scientists are human & make mistakes) but to base your opinion entirely on the evidence that supports your beliefs, while ignoring everything else, is pure ignorance. This goes for the naysayers on both ends of the spectrum.

  9. I do understand your point Charles. And to some degree, I agree...

But you must understand that laws ARE an exercise in semantics.

This is proven by the very existence of the Judicial Branch...

If everyone agreed on what the law says, we would not need them. But people do not agree. That's why we have so many lawsuits... That's why so many people on this very forum disagree all the time.

    -P

    Charles,

I contend, that its not all that clear.

If USCIS meant that a 'bar girl' was not allowed a visa, then they would have stated such. They did not do so.

What they did, was choose words that have an amount of 'fudge factor'...

    -Phil

phil, what webster has to say for a definition is inmaterial. what matters is what uscis says and it's spelled out quite clearly.

i think everyone here knows better than to try to "fudge factor" given the potential for a lifetime ban. i'd appreciate it if we don't have an exercise in semantics.

i think a vast majority on vj will agree that offering sex for money, or taking money for sex, is prostitution. to try to coat it as less than that by attaching a different name or by trying to give it some imaginary wiggle room is a disservice to the op.

Reminds me of Shakespeare's quote "The lady doth protest too much, methinks."

  10. Lots of people posting totally inaccurate information. The July 2011 date is not a drop dead everyone GTFO date... it is the date that troops will begin redeploying. It could be a BCT every 6 months, 2 BCTs every 4 months or whatever, depending on the conditions on the ground. I hear a lot of criticism from the right but no alternatives, except pull out altogether (and not too long ago the right was blasting the liberals for suggesting this).

The Bush plan of writing a blank check to the Aghan & Iraq government, with no defined measurements of success or end state was a total failure & just pulling out is not an option IMO so tell me if you don't like Obama's plan what would you suggest?

  11. How much did Obama donate? How much did Biden?

    STFU

    Who knows?

It's public record. Obama donated roughly 250K in 2007 and 180K in 2008.

Where did a majority of that money go? The hate mongering Wright.

Its public record that Palin donated more than Biden did in his entire career. For many years Biden donated 395.00 per year.

Joe you would make the debate about taste great/ less filling a conservative vs liberal argument

However :ot2: I applaud Palin for making this donation.

  12. You said a very important thing there, gated community. The location i wanted to live at is Samal island next to davao, Safety is an issue that does come up in my head to. Davao is very safe but Samal island i am still not sure. The thing i did not like about gated community is it takes away one of the perks i want, the beaches and sea, sunset. Most of the communities seem like us.

I would look at living somewhere else... there is some terrorist activity in Mindanao & there have been cases of kidnapping Americans.

  13. Liberals always think they should tell everyone what they can and can't do on their own property.

Joe take your political BS somewhere else... it has zero to do with this topic.

As for the OP I am also married to a Filipino from Davao & have also seriously considered moving to the Philippines when I retire from the military (can live like a king on a military retirement & more importantly I really like the Philippines). One thing to consider is what your wife thinks... mine has fallen in love with living in the US so she might want to stay here after I retire (which of course may change our plans).

Finally as for your comments about gays & pretty women they should both be non issues. Not to start an :ot: debate but sexual orientation has more to do with genetics than anything else (and if your son or daughter chooses to be gay they are still your son/daughter). As for pretty women I enjoy looking at them as much as the next guy, but touching is reserved for my wife (who is pretty damn hot btw).

When all is said & done make a decision (with your wife) that is best for you.

  14. SIMPLE SOLUTION, re-write the APP so that it automatically calls and reports the exact GPS fix of the user using the APP to the boarder patrol.

Or it directs them to a bus that takes them back across the border.

  15. If the Republicans are celebrating over this they are deluding themselves. The real story here is that more Americans are getting fed up with BOTH parties; over 30% of Americans don't identify themselves with either party & that is a significant number. Personally I would love to see a strong third party form that consists of independents & moderates fed up with their respective party. I realize this is unlikely, but one can dream.

Independents have traditionally made up around a third of the electorate, so this isn't new. The reason you don't see a third party forming is that these independents have less in common than the major parties. Some of them are ultra-right, some are ultra-left. Some are fiscal conservatives with liberal social policies, and vice-versa. Some are isolationists while others are hawks. Try building a coalition out of that.

I tend to disagree. If you look at the voting trends (and opinions) of Independent voters they very often split the difference between the Republicans & Democrats. For example over 90% of Democrats approve of President Obama & less than 10% of Republicans do, while the Independent approval rating is near the 50% mark. Sure you have the outliers mixed in with the Independents but for the most part they tend to be the most objective & non-partisan group IMO.

I think the difference in our opinions comes from the fact that we see the political spectrum differently. You seem to see politics as a single axis with Republicans on one side, Democrats on the other and independents in the middle. Republicans and Democrats try to win over a larger number of independents to their side. In this situation, it would make sense for the middle to try to band together and make it's own party instead of having to bend one way or the other.

I see politics as dozens of axes. There are axes for social, economic, foreign policy, and other issues. Every person has a position on each of these axes (sometimes that position is not caring). People also prioritize these axes with some issues much more important than others. A party is simply people who agree on a certain amount of issues and don't have a large disagreement on issues that they rank as important. Some of these issue seem to be unrelated. For instance, pro-life, low taxes, and a powerful military don't really seem to go together but they all seem to fit into the Republican party.

Independents are a fractured group of people that can't reconcile with either political party. Half of them like Obama, half of them don't. They all have different reasons for liking or disliking him.

Your last sentence is interesting. Non-partisan is sort of by definition but I wouldn't say independents are any more objective. Most everybody has views that are the most important for them when they vote. If those views fit solidly into one of the major parties, they identify with that party. If they don't, they are an independent and evaluate each election which candidate aligns best with their views (Most everyone does, just some people chose the candidate from the same party every time). Independents disregard their disagreements with the candidate on certain issues and pick the candidate that they agree with most of the time, just like everyone else. I don't see a difference in objectivity.

In conclusion, you have to ask what the platform of a hypothetical middle party would be. What are the positions on health care, taxes, abortion, gay marriage, the military, the environment, foreign policy, globalization, free trade, unions, business regulation, the size of government, etc. ? If you can make a coherent platform with positions on those issues that would unite independents, then you could make a middle party.

Excellent points & I agree that when someone defines themselves as a conservative, moderate or liberal what they are really doing is averaging their opinions on various issues. For example someone can have conservative views on one issue, moderate on another & liberal on yet another (which would average out to moderate). As for being objective I agree with you to a point... there are hard core Republicans & Democrats that vote along party lines no matter what & to me that has a lot more to do with partisan bias than thinking objectively.

  16. I'm not really sure when the next season starts. I've got my full 232/245 pvp set ready to go. Sucks though cause I use both my specs for raiding. Gets expensive respeccing/re-glyphing twice a week

    ... Dual spec?

Yea I was gonna say that... I think dual spec is a one time cost of 1000g?

  17. Treason

    1. the offense of acting to overthrow one's government or to harm or kill its sovereign.

    2. a violation of allegiance to one's sovereign or to one's state.

    3. the betrayal of a trust or confidence; breach of faith; treachery.

I think giving out national security information regarding our border is treachery.

This is more along the lines of obstruction of justice or something like that. Treason is a very serious crime punishable by death.
