  1. Hi to all, I have a qiuck question about AOS. I filed a K1 Visa for my finace, and everything was approved, and she arrived here in June. We got married June 24. I sent in all the paper work for AOS and the fees required. Here is my problem and question. My wife has a 6 year old daughter that was aprroved with the K1 Visa, she also arrived here with my wife. So when I sent in the paper work for AOS I sent both my wife and her daughter on the same form I-486, plus the fee of $1610.00. $910.00 for my wife, $600.00 for her daughter and $80.00 for the finger prints. Our paperwork was sent back saying we sumitted the wrong fee, that the fee should have been $910.00 for the AOS, and $80.00 for the finger prints, so are we to send in a separate I-485 for her daughter? I thought it was all sent in on the same form since her daughter is 6 years old. Also we sent in form I-786 for a one time permit to travel out of US. That was sent back also saying that we need to send in$350.00 with that form to complete the I-786. I am very sure that when you send in a form I-486 AOS this is included with the process. Problem is that I already sent back our forms with the fees they are saying, but I think they are wrong and we filled out our paperwork correct. I tried calling to find out through the UCIS office but all you get is the automation voice. Is there a way to contact a human at the UCIS branch? The notice we recieved also stated to send the form I-786 with the check amount of $350.00 to the Nebraska office and bnot the Chicago office so I did that, but now I need to cancel that check because they are wrong. My main concern is my wifes daughter. I thought since she is a minor she is covered under my wifes I-485. Am I right or wrong? The only thing that was rejected was the amount of the check I sent, and again I sent $1610.00 for both. Just need an idea what to do now since I did what they said, but I think they are wrong.

I came over with my son in may, my husband and i married in july, and we sent our AOS off last week, we did 2 seperate applications (one for myself and one for my son) as far as i know, even though the child is a minor you have to send a seperate application for each child, the fee is lower than an adult fee until the child turns 14.The fee for your wifes daughter should be $600 but you must file it on a seperate form (we did all seperate applications, but sent it all in the same packet with one cheque) E.A.D/travel document is all included if filed with AOS, if filed seperately there will be a charge!

    I hope this helps

  2. I have read the guides and searched and read posts here about the I-693 but I'm still unclear ...

My fiancee had her medical exam in June, we will me married and file for AOS next month. I have her DS-3025 (Vaccination Documentation Worksheet). She needed and recieved a vaccination followup here and we have her vaccination record from the County Health Dept.

Do we need to complete a I-693 or need the services of a civil surgeon before we file for AOS?

    Thanks for any replies.

From what i can gather from reading the forums, most people who had all their vaccinations at their medical exam prior to moving to the US, have just used their DS-3025 (this is what i did) and no one seems to have run into any problems. If vaccinations were recieved AFTER the move then the I-693 was filled in by a civil surgeon.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck

Yes, she needed a follow-up Tdap 4 weeks after her initial one. So I need to find a civil surgeon to just complete the vaccination section of the I-693? Who is this Dr Arnold I keep reading about? He can do this for me even though I'm in Michigan and he's in Texas (I believe?).

    Check out this thread.. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=189022

Dr.Arnold was discussed at great length..lol

  4. well i dont know what to say, ive been having "roadblocks" but hopefully you find a way to resolve it.. have you applied for AOS ??

Yeah we applied for AOS last week.

    Thanks anyway :)

The number is all you need right now. It'll get you a bank account and something to fill in on any application that asks for a SSN. Nobody ever actually shows their card. Once you get the GC, then go sort it out. There's so many stories about different SS offices, but I wouldn't bother with it at this point because you've got the number and that's yours for life, no matter what your name changes to.

Thanks Nich-Nick, i'll wait it out till i have my green card then...damn procedures...lol

  5. Hey guys, not sure if there's much i can do about this, but am not quite sure if what the SS office are telling me is correct

I flew in the US in May, and applied for my social security card on 3rd June, we got married on 25th July but still hadn't received my card so last week (after all the madness of the wedding/visitors etc..) i went to my local office to chase it up. Turns out the application had been processed, a number had been awarded but no card sent out...there's a surprise..lol so while i was there thought i'd kill 2 birds with 1 stone and apply for the name change (to my new married name) i had my new marriage licence, passport, birth cert, but was told she couldn't do it as i didn't have my divorce document (silly me thinking obtaining a marriage licence then a certificate would be enough proof of this). So today with ALL documents on hand i go back again....this time i'm told they cannot change my name until i get my green card as my I-94 runs out in 6 days (even though i thought it invalid as i'm now married anyway) i have my social security number as the lady who i saw last week gave it to me, yet they still won't process the name change, or even send me a replacement card to the one i never got in the first place.......

    Aaaaaaaaaaarggghhhh!

    Any idea's anyone?

    Thankies in advance

A very brain dead Selina

  6. I DON'T BLOODY BELEIVE THIS!!! Just checked my cases online right and bearing in mind my great news yesterday and how i said online nothing had changed or updated and i asked about where this leaves the ead and ap???

Both touched today!! no change of last touch or anything on aos but i got interview letter so who cares.

OK so I have these things for what a grand total of three weeks max? I am assuming it will take a week no lest or more to get here which is prob expecting too much and then they will take them off me at interview if not approved? these people make my mind boggle!

ok so if i go get my provisional dl with ead i know the licence runs out when ead does but do i have to go and change it as soon as i am approved? i mean is there a point of me trying to start learning as soon as i get my ead if interview isnt too far off?

    Congratulations

  7. is it really necessary to send it to Washington? can't i send it in or take it to the embassy in LA?

also i want to/need to change my name but obviously not having my gc yet and way ofF from interview do they send the old passport back to you so you still have the K1 Visa?

According the Embassy website only the one in DC Deals with passports!

I've been wondering about the name change thing too, having sent our AOS off last week i'm reluctant to part with my old passport just yet. Does anyone know when the best time would be to change it? Should we wait till after AOS has been approved? It's weird walking around with a passport in my maiden name...i feel fraudulent...lol

  8. me, me, me..lol

we sent our AOS off on thursday and was received on Friday (7th) hopefully we'll hear something sooner rather than later :)

    Selina

Added. Looks like we have a horse race between the Magpie, the Monkey and the Nox who all sent theirs in this week. First one to a green card wins a jar of Marmite.

I'm off to Home Depot then to work on house projects at the new house so we can eventually move in, then wait for Shaz and Daymo to arrive in the Winnebago. woohoo

Thankies....my son will love it..haha (i'm more of a 'hate it' when it comes to marmite)

And i don't care who gets there first..so long as everyone gets the APPROVED stamp :)

    Good luck peeps!

  9. can you add me as well honey, sent mine in Tuesday and signed for on the Wednesday so hoping to get a noa week after next

Okay, you're there, and Magpie (no date mailed), and fixed Hannah's walk-in bio date. Anybody else?

Do you remember talking to me the other day?? hahaha

    me, me, me..lol

  10. Hi All! I couldn't avoid this AOS stuff any longer now that Dave has gone back to work. We were good and did the admin stuff whilst being on honeymoon (applied for SSN, put on bank account, Phone, lease agreement etc)

I called Dr A yesterday and was told what to supply by the receptionist.

    Everything but:

Who do I address the check too! How did everyone else address the check?

    Thanks

    E

Make the cheque payable to 'the department Of homeland Security' :)

We sent ours off today *fingers crossed* all will be well, let the waiting game commence (again)..lol

Miss g, as far as i know we don't need another medical, just need to have any vaccinations checked onto another form if you didn't have them all at KnightsBridge. I didn't bother, i sent copies of all my vaccinations as i'd had them all in the UK, if they call me in for a medical, i'll cross that bridge when we get to it!

Good luck to everyone, and congratz to all the newlyweds ;)

    Selina.

  11. yes i had trouble with SSN applied mid to end june.. and still havent received it.. i am on the phone as we speak..they forgot to order the card!!!! we got married on the 30th.. so in the process of doing the AOS.. urgh

oooh i'm wondering if thats whats happened to mine  Thanks, it may sound silly, but it kind of makes me feel better knowing its not just me, even if it is a pain in the..you know! I hope you get your's soon :)

  12. Hehe! thanks Magpie :) No custard needed lol I'm going down there first thing thursday morning so hopefully will find out whats going on. I had no problems applying, just havent received a number/card yet, and the guy i spoke to yesterday couldn't find anything out either, guess i'll have to wait and see :)

On an AOS note, anyone applying for advance parole (just in case it's needed) what did you guys put in the dates that you want to travel? would an 'unkown' be good enough! I'm not planning on going anywhere, but after reading this thread, thought i'd better apply just in case.

  13. Sooo glad all you guys are still around, i've taken some time out for the wedding, and am now back with a vengence, ready to face the brain ache that is AOS! We're almost ready to file the paperwork so fingers crossed :)

Did anyone have probs with their SSN?

I applied on the 3rd June (in New Jersey), still nothing. Called them today and they advised to pop into the local office (if only a visit to Social security was a mere 'pop in')

Good luck to everyone who's about to embark on their wedding/AOS etc.....i wish you all a smooth and happy journey :)

    Selina.

  14. Whoo! thank goodness for this thread! Well we've been in the US just over 2 weeks now, i've applied for my my SSN, so am hoping that'll be here in the next few weeks! Only problem is, my son can't be issued one without and EAD (Employment Authorization Document) and from what we can gather we have to go back to Immigration and apply with form I-765, which is going to cost an extra 300 and something dollars! He's only 13 and is hardly likely to be working any time soon, does anyone else have any idea's as to whether this is the correct procedure or not?

Then its on to AOS...arrgh! It's great to see a lot of familiar faces here, i fear there's more brain ache to come..lol

    Selina.

  15. Oh My, so many posts since i was last here! Congratulations to everyone who got Approved and out of AP! and good luck to everyone with interviews coming up :) I'm sure you'll all do just fine :) Sorry i've not been around, been busy trying to organise wedding plans, empty a 3 bedroom house and sort 3 kids and a dog haha! We fly out on the 20th, so am going to be mega busy between now and then, but my thoughts will be with Everyone on here, think positive and keep supporting one another, it's what helped get me through...thanks guys *hugs*

    Good Luck to all

    Selina

  16. Hey folks, just to let you all know that I also got approved (FINALLY!!!!!) but it's pending as I have to send in a hand signed copy of the I-134. I tried to ask people in various forums about electronically signed forms but nobody answered so I can safely say now to everyone - Make sure you have hand signed documents. I also need to send in all 64 pages of my fiances tax return, not just the summary on page 1.

I would like to warn everyone that although they say you should expect to be there for 2 to 3 hours, I was actually waiting for 4 hours. Such a long and tiresome process all for a 5 minute, stress free chat where they say yes, you have a visa. Like everyone says on here already, do not panic about this interview process, I've had scarier moments watching Scooby Doo.

Looks like March has been good to everyone. Best of luck to everyone, this is where the journey starts I guess. I am freaking out. San Francisco here I come.

    JoJo XX

    Whooop!! Congratulations JoJo :)

and just want to say i'm thinking of you Magpie and ahlpo..hope you both come back with big smiley faces and APPROVALS :D

    Selina.

  17. Not sure if its been mentioned already but if anyone has their medicals booked in Knightsbridge over the next week, be warned that with the G20 here in london there is going to be a lot of protests and protesters. I think there will be some people protesting outside the US embassy too at some point. There will probably be plenty of delays throughout london and a lot of police no doubt! Stay Safe.

Excellent advice, the security forces are also saying there is a heightened terrorist risk, so not sure of there'll be even more security checks, might be an idea to get to where you're going that extra little bit earlier.
