  1. I loathe doing taxes, and that is when they are quick and simple. Now there is a degree of complication added to it, taxes seem so painful. I guess i've got 19 pages to read before I start asking questions in the thread. Don't wanna be "That n00b"

lol good luck i tried reading them all then got confused frustrated gave up and say screw it i'm asking anyways besides its a whole new tax year now :D

  2. Giving this thread a bump and probably repeating a question or three..

    1. I moved to the US in August 2009 and have yet to be employed in the US. My conditional PR status was approved in 2010. Do I have to file a US tax return for 2009?

    2. How the hell do you file taxes abroad? I'm not going to lie I never paid much attention to this aspect of immigration. Can you NETFILE or no?

    3. If you cannot NETFILE where do you get the forms to do it manually? Which will make me sad because I always did my taxes on my own but through the joy of free tax programs lol

  3. the longest a person can stay is 6 months HOWEVER the time alloted for a stay is at the discretion of the border agent. she would have to show proof of ties to canada ie. return ticket, lease agreement/mortage information, letter from her employer, utility statements etc.etc. and even then they may only grant her a month or even less. my advice: suck it up and wait..it hurts and it can be lonely but its by far the best way to go about it. imho.

  4. My GC was approved through CSC and I did not require a form I-693(or whichever it is) I just photocopied the one from the interview and sent that. No harm no foul.

  5. I've no coffee ( other than drinking it lol) or fast food experience!! Mine is in retail...so I'll try Belk, J.C. Penney, among some other places. There's a couple of restaurants here too I'd work at, but I really don't want to be a waitress again... :dead:

You have a Timmy's near ya?? I'm so jealous...been craving a double double forever!! It's one of the first things I'm going to go get when I get back to BC!! LOL

    That and Timbits...and I'll eat a couple for Charles...lol

lol Well Joyce I've never worked in a restaurant or fast food chain in my life but at this point it appears to be an immigrants right of passage.Because no one is hiring. I have applied to 26 places thusfar (keep a list lol), and I have yet to receive a single phone call. I've got a clean record, have management experience, worked in tourism and retail lol and bupkis. So at this point Mc Donalds doesn't seem all that bad :( lol but yeah our town has like four Tim's around

  6. lol I don't know if I could work at Starbucks, I mean I LOVEEEEE Starbucks but could you imagine working with those baristas all day? My second backup is Tim's though. I'll walk in be like "I'm a Canadian, I KNOW Tim Horton's..you should hire me"

  7. Card production ordered woot woot. Now if only I could get a job interview. I told myself if I don't get a call by January 21st ish I'm applying at Mc Donalds..I mean how bad could it be :|

  8. It's not only white Canadians that get asked these questions are taken to secondary and sometimes denied entry

lol I understand this but the problem when someone cries racism is that the most common raced to be assumed to not be hassled is the caucasian people

  9. I posted my comment on cbc.ca ;)

This woman bought a one way ticket to visit her husband in the US. As a Canadian who is now a permanent resident in the US and knows the immigration system fairly well. That one way ticket is a massive red flag. White Canadians get asked those same questions all the time. When crossing the border you need to show PROOF OF TIES TO CANADA. This is things like a round trip ticket, bank account statemens showing funds to support yourself while in the US, rental agreements, utility bills, letters from employers etc etc. That was her error, she didn't prove she was coming back to Canada. She bought a one way ticket to visit her new husband in the US. Any sane and comitted customs agent would say no. If she went back with proof of ties to Canada and a return ticket I can almost guarantee she'd cross. This isn't an issue of race or religion this is an issue of common sense and not feeling some ridiculous self entitlement of being able to enter another country. Being a Canadian citizen and having a passport DOES NOT equal entry into the US. Get over it already. Crying to the media probably won't help her case at all in my honest opinion.

  10. where does the good go is one of my favourites off the album too!! i went to a concert of theirs in winnipeg and they were discussing that they didn't actually work together which seems so strange because what they write really does seem to flow. i like you guys so much more now :P

  13. Okay, so I totally jumped the gun on the reason for me receiving an RFE. Because it says this:

'For the household member's income to be included in the household income, the household membeer's income must have been from a lawful source and earned while the household member was authorized to work in the United States'

And then asks to submit blah blah blah to prove work authorization. Which is a piece of cake so over the weekend I'll copy the birth certificate proving US citizenship and ship it off. But do you think I should redo the I-864 or just provide the birth certificate?

lol I'm just happy its an easy fix and doesn't require a trip to the civil surgeon...yet.

  14. Okay, so I received an RFE today for my AOS. Naturally, I haven't received the letter yet but I imagine what it was is me not completing the vaccination supplement sheet by a civil surgeon (I just submitted the paper from the medical). So, my third installment of Gardasil was due 10/14/2009. Now, I'm in the US my SO has medicare health insurance (aka I'm screwed and can't use it lol) and I'm afraid they will make me do the 3rd shot. So my questions are:

    1. Do you think I'll have to take the 3rd shot?

    2. If so, what do you think is the cheapest way to get it done? I was thinking Planned Parenthood but unfortunately Maine apparently doesn't have one, and then there is the fear that that counts a means tested benefit.

    HELP ME!!!
