  1. Doing what they asked....we were at a U2 (the band) convention. It was pretty obvious too since we were wearing U2 shirts.

At that moment the guards started laughing...out loud...at us. I think something was said to the effect that we were super geeks, and we were allowed to go.

Thankfully, I didn't pick up those Cubans for a friend of mine who wanted them!

LOL. Maybe next time I should send my fiancé in wearing his Star Trek t-shirt!

  2. Your fiancé can always request a divorce certificate from the county the divorce took place in. If he's not in the same town anymore, many states allow you to do so online. I got my birth certificate this way (the county records, including divorce certificates, were all available) - and I found the right site with a simple Google search.

As for the name change, your fiancé will need to show proof of name change - so this could be done with a marriage certificate showing the first name change and also the divorce decree or certificate that shows the legal changes. I'm pretty sure it explains this in the guides here if I remember correctly. Have you read over them? They're really great.

Best of luck to you on your journey!

  3. My babies usually go in the corners too. I got tired of my one cat giving me "accidents" because the litter wasn't perfectly clean and also tired of scooping. It's expensive, but OMG so worth it...

It's elevated so it's pretty hard for your kitty to "miss." It cleans itself, never jams, and works with regular garbage bags. I tried the other litter things - regular, bags, covered, LitterMaid (that machine is so fussy!), etc... and I will never go back. All I do is pull the garbage bag ~once a week and add some litter every 1-2 weeks. No stink, and it stays nice and clean for my picky "princess."

I hope you find a solution, whatever it is. Kitty accidents are no fun!

  4. So glad to hear this... I wanted to vomit when I heard they were being partially delisted. Especially when I heard jack@$$ comments from people like Idaho's governor: "I'm prepared to bid for that first ticket to shoot a wolf myself."

    Thank you Judge Molloy!

  5. And let me clarify something. My comments were made toward the original post. She made the accusation that the POE officer was harassing them. From what I read, I did not see anything that was harassment. And no reason to get pissed. Instead they should kiss the POE officer for letting him through.

    ...

As far as the strictness of our security. They are only trying to protect you!!!! I hear it all of the time when I travel, people will complain about the security and everything they have to do. But these would probably be the same people, if there was a bomb on an airplane, to complain about the government not doing enough to ensure that a bomb could not get on an airplane. If you go to the airport far enough in advance of your flight, it is not an issue how long it takes.

I have never been there, but I saw a thing on a news show about our security and security of other countries. It was showing that, I think it was Isreal, security is much much worse than our security. And they were saying that people in the United States would never go for that. But they live every day with the threat of terrorism.

I called it harassment because indeed that is what it was. My fiancé has visited before and returned, so IMO that shows he'll likely do the same again. He had a return ticket, and not a ton of luggage. I don't think it looked overtly suspicious. Asking the same questions repeatedly to me and my fiancé -- that certainly felt like harassment. And then to hang up the phone without telling me if he was being allowed entry -- that was just mean. I say it was mean because there was no further questioning after the phone call; they let my fiancé in afterwards.

I don't have an issue with border security doing their jobs. But honestly I don't think the situation was handled in the way it should have been. I think you should be a little less judgmental about other people's experiences when you have no experience of your own to compare it to.

  6. Hello,

Mine left for Vermont on 7/10 and it's suppose to get there 7/14, tomorrow. I am scared and keep checking to see if they sent it early as it's already in Vermont. :(

I'm going to be a nervous wreck this entire time. It's hard to know someone other than yourself, can rip your world apart, when you know you found the love of your life. I wish process was easier and faster, but not putting our countries security at risk. Good luck to us all.

Welcome to our growing group of July filers. :) I totally understand about being nervous. Hopefully we can all provide the support we need to get through these trying days ahead.

How did you send your package that you know it's supposed to arrive there on Monday? I mailed mine last Thursday certified mail with electronic return receipt and it still tells me it's not there. I am going to the post office tomorrow to find out what the heck is going on. I mailed a letter to Germany the same day and it arrived in 5 days... how can my package not be in California!? I'm particularly nervous because my fiancé and I have already had 2 letters "lost" in the mail - one from each direction.

Anyone getting their NOA1 yet? I hope you're having more luck than me so far!

  7. Oh, I'm definitely impatient, too.

A couple more of my flaws (among the many):

I'm very particular about things... how I fold my towels, where things belong, etc.

    I'm a picky eater.

I can't keep things to myself when I'm pissed off or nervous (even when I should) or I can't let it go.

But somehow somebody great still loves me! :D

  8. Among other things, melting of the ice caps will flood millions of acres of land along coasts, displacing millions of people. Not to mention that it affects weather patterns, increasing drought, floods, storm strengths (thing Katrina), etc.

So you're saying that warming is universally bad?

Wouldn't it also open up vast areas of previously unlivable lands?

How do you figure? I wouldn't call a flooded area livable. Nor a new desert. Nor a city post-hurricane. Rising oceans will reduce the acreage of land in total - permanently flooding coastal regions (unless you're planning on building a house under the ocean...).

It still amazes me that people bought into this Bush propaganda garbage, and now even that ignorant administration has admitted we're contributing to global warming and people STILL don't believe. Ignorance is bliss, I guess?

  9. My fiancé and I just mailed off our package today to the California Service Center. Who else is filing this month? I'd love to hear from you!

I'm a nervous nelly as we're headed out of town for several weeks so he can meet my parents. I mailed the package certified/return receipt so I can check that they received it. I guess I will just keep anxiously checking to see if they cash my check while I'm away!

  10. Why does everyone want to slow global warming?

The world is warming at the moment - why not just accept it and learn to live with it?

Among other things, melting of the ice caps will flood millions of acres of land along coasts, displacing millions of people. Not to mention that it affects weather patterns, increasing drought, floods, storm strengths (thing Katrina), etc.

Do some Google searching and you'll see plenty of other reasons to STOP global warming.

  11. I've done much of the Caribbean. I wouldn't go back to Jamaica (though I'm told the resorts are nice, everywhere else is flooded with people harassing you for money). I also wouldn't go back to Nassau (in the Bahamas, ofc). Same problem - people chasing you, trying to sell stuff you're not sure they even own, etc. Too hard to enjoy the beauty and quiet or shopping... or much of anything.

    I would recommend, however:

    - Grand Cayman

    - any of the Virgin Islands (my favorite was St. John) -- there's so much more of the natural beauty left on these islands and still good touristy stuff without the crowds or beggars

And I guess if you like the party scene, Cancun or Cozumel are a cheap way to go. They're really touristy but can be fun if you don't need the quiet or authentic feel.

  12. THE KEY TO SUCCEEDING IN MARRIAGE IS NOT FINDING THE RIGHT PERSON; IT'S LEARNING TO LOVE THE PERSON YOU FOUND.

I know this post is coming from the right place in your heart, but I thoroughly disagree with this sentence. You have to start with the right person. Some things can't be talked away, counseled away, compromised away, or whatever. Take this from a person who was very much in love with her ex for years but continued to compromise and be counseled and everything until I was no longer myself.

Yes, marriage is work. But it should be fulfilling work. And that's a matter of continuing to stay the best of friends and keeping an active social and intimate life -- several things people "let go" when work, money, and kids all come into the picture. That's all workable... if you're with the right person.
