  1. Precious,

I had the same question, how did you get the 2 page i-134 form notarized? Did the notary stamp go on one of the pages???

    Thanks.

    Thanks for the replies guys!

I think I will have them notarized just to play on the safe side.

It has been proven 'beyond reasonable doubt' that USCIS + US Embassies = disaster :D

    Thanks for all the inputs!

Alex, I don't know because I haven't finished filling it out (waiting for husband to do the numbers part)

But I guess I will just have it on the last page, there is a tiny space there and it is only a stamp 'sworn and signed".

If that doesn't work I will submit the old version, which is also accepted at this point.

  2. Hi guys,

I came across a new version of the I-134 (2008) at the USCIS webpage. In this current version there is no need to notarize the signature of the sponsor, whereas older versions require that.

As I'm ready to send the docs to file for my son's K-2 in Rio, Brazil, I wonder if someone has had the same experience and if wether the new version was accepted. They tend to be a little confusing and I don't want to mess this up.

Any thoughts, suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  3. Hi, I can share my own experience with this. And location matters, because depending on the state you are, things might change a little. I'm in Houston, TX.

I got my SSN soon after we I got married under a K1 visa. At the time I took my marriage certificate asking to have the card on my married name. The officer told me it would not be possible as the name on the USCIS 'system' would not match my married name, so I got the card on my maiden name. -_-

It turned out that having a SSN card under my maiden name was useless, as I could not join may husband's bank account (bank needed more than one ID on my married name and all I had was a marriage cert.); also I could not get a driver's license, and this is because ' i don't have a valid visa' - K1 expires in 90 days.

Oh, after some weeks, I went to the SSN office to change the card on my married name. Useless. They would not do it, again, because of the system.

Anyway, I would advise to wait. The SSN office here is a pain, long waits, long lines and it is not worth it.

I ended up giving up until I got my EAD and CG. I understand is a long wait, but now they cannot turn me down as I have evrything I need to change my SSN and get my drivers license.

So, check with your local SSN office. Rules might be different in your state.

Hope this helps and good luck! ;)

  4. Ok, My husband lived in England for like 6 years while he studied. I know u have to get police certificate thingys from every place u lived since u were 16, but does anyone know who he would contact? Does he actually have to find every number for every police station in every city he lived in England? If so, then what? Does he just give them his passport number as he was just on a student visa and they send them to him or what? He lived in like 6 different cities there. Is there just a general police certificate that he could get? Anyone residing in UK, if u know plzzzz?

    Hi Abenitez,

I had to get a police certificate from UK for myself. As far as I know, what your husband would need is an APCO certificate. This is only one piece of paper accepted by the US immigration authorities certifying criminal clearance.

Visit this website to get the form to request for the Police Certificate. You fill out the form, pay the fee and they will send the certificate to your home address.

  7. Hi everyone,

I moved to Houston, TX in august this year on a K1 visa, and got married on the 19th of october, i sent all the AOS paperwork, and now im just curious, can i get an ID card without having the I-94 because it expired in early november?

As of right now i have no proof of identity since my german passport has my old name and adress in it, and i dont have a drivers license either so all i have now is a social security card wiht my old name on it but they changed it in their system they just cant issue me a new card yet cause i need my green card for that. I cant even get a bank card to our bank account because i have no proof of id. however the social security officer told me that i can get an id card with only my social security card and passport and marriage certificate. so i went to the local dmv office here and they told me no because my I-94 is expired and i have to wait for my green card to get an id...which can take months or even a year or who knows even longer so what am i suppose to do i dont want to walk around here without having any proof of id whatsoever.

i cant even get a new german passport while im here because they need my green card as well to make sure im a permanent resident here

im really frustrated!!!and dont know what to do anymore! i feel like im non existing!

i hope somebody can help me out with this!!

    thanks so much

Hi, I just thought I could share my experience, because I'm also located in Houston, TX.

My SSN card has my old name on it. Same thing, they would not change it before I can show them my Green Card, so no joint bank account for me either. This goes for the driver's license also, I still don't have one. The only ID I have now is my passport, with my old name on it. But after my marriage, I went down to the Brazilian Consulate with my marriage certificate and had them stamp my passport with my new married name. Maybe the German Embassy might have something similar, I would not know.

But even with all that, there is very little you can do.

As YuandDan said, once you get your EAD, you will then have some sort of ID in your married name.

  8. It's a beautiful name. When I was pregnant, I thought about calling my boy Ben, but we already had a Ben in the family. Actually I had 3 names for the baby boy, Matthew, Bernard and Theo. It had to be a name that would go well with the surname and that would sound good in English and Portuguese. My ex-husband and I decided to wait until the baby was born to see which name would match his face.

He was a Theo, for sure!

Benjamin - love that name. God bless Ben! :energy:

  9. Good idea, Precious, we need a distraction to stay away from USCIS website, which i just got off of and no updates...

But Wow!!! Your Christmas pudding sound amazing! A lot of work... good for you!

For me, for the holidays, i'm mostly planning for Eid al-Kebir (the upcoming Muslim holidays in early December)...

unfortunately we can't go back to Morocco b/c of $$ and no AP---and we are not really organized enough emotionally or financially to go anyway...

So we are currently looking for where we can purchase a live sheep in Brooklyn  for the big event.

and i'm busily trying to figure out how i'm going to grill all this meat to make an authentic Eid al-Kebir??

    It should be fun though!

And I thought I had a lot of work, but grilling a sheep?! Mind you, the meat tastes great.

Don't they have a Muslim place in Brooklyn with a big grill where they will do that for you? :star:

  10. So funny. I'm in Boston and of Italian ancestry, so we always do the Sicilian Feast of the Seven Fish on Christmas Eve. My husband right now is home making a Christmas pudding (though we got a pressure cooker to steam the thing, so hopefully it'll only take a few hours)! It's funny how these traditions get all mixed in everywhere. :P

My husband has a sticker hanging on the office wall:

Warning: Irish temper with an Italian attitude
