  1. I will agree with Susita's assessment. It's one extreme or the other. Either they are posting pictures of their new car/house/baby/vacation or complaining about being on unemployment.

My babies are pretty cute though :star: It's mostly for my extended family, friends who live far away, my in-laws and everybody in Peru, though. Sure beats printing pictures and mailing them. It's cheaper too!

Skype is also the coolest thing ever invented. My 2-year old got to chit chat in jibberish babytalk with her abuela over the weekend.

  2. I think the same can be said for the American consumer. They once felt an obligation to buy American, but now it is all about what is cheaper.

It's hard or almost impossible to do so nowadays. Some products say "Made in America" but were all the components of that product made here? Or were they shipped here and assembled here, so that the company could say it was made here? That's the question.

The article also spoke about how they roused workers up from sleep to begin working on this glass screen for the I-Phone. That couldn't happen here, without shift differential, everyone living close to work etc, etc unless it was prisoners on site.

We'd be like "yeah, right," roll over and go back to bed.

  3. I use Facebook, I like keeping in touch with our friends & family in Peru, and all over the U.S./world. It's pretty cool.

However, it's common knowledge that some people go out of their way on Facebook to either: brag about how awesome their life is or complain about how sucky it is. It's all a ploy for attention.

  4. Oh, we have learned mucho, S-Bone -- in that unsupervised trips to V.'s Secret results in an overtaxed credit card, due also in part to opportunistic detours to Charlotte Russe, Forever 21, and the mall's food court, see man.

  5. Peor, las vacunas que le obligaron a mi novia eran las que ya había recibido de niña- dipteria, sarampion, rubela, varicela, etc. Yo me quejé con la Embajada. Tengan cuidado.

  6. No amount of googie-proofing a home is adequate, no man. Havoc indeed, man.

    Happy Birthday to Mini-Bone!

You have lots and lots of fun and messes to look forward to. Anna Banana has learned to open the fridge and thinks it's funny to throw eggs on the floor. So, if I have any advice for you it's to mini-bone-proof your fridge.

  7. The little ####### should be taken away from her and given up to adoption. Too bad she didn't die down there.

That's just lovely. :wow: You're a real winner.

She's a 15-year-old girl for G's sake. I feel bad for her, for whatever happened in her life that made her resort to this. Children are a product of their upbringing & their environment.

I hope she gets some help.

  8. Does anyone have any advice on how to treat extreme culture shock that sets in late? My husband has been in the states for a year, we have been married 2 months and are currently waiting for the AOS, and he has done great all year with the changes. In the past month he is suddenly struck with extreme boredom, no sense of purpose, etc. I think he just needs to change of scenery or a new opportunity, but money is tight and unfortunately he is not working yet. He has been really hard on himself lately, repeatedly saying it's been a year and he has accomplished nothing, but not willing to recognize so much that we have accomplished.

In short, he needs a quick attitude adjustment before it takes a toll on us both. Any suggestions? Support groups or connections?

How's his English? My husband started ESL classes when he moved here and made a bunch of friends. A lot of places offer these classes for free or low-cost.

Also, I agree with the previous poster about home improvements. Take advantage while you can, because once he starts working it will be very hard to get anything done! :star:

  9. Just curious. How does one get out of going along to Victorias Secret and other shopping excursions? I am still recovering from last nights ordeal.

    Babysit. :innocent:

"Ok baby, you don't want to go with me? Then stay with the kids."

Zero chance, sigh man, especially when they flash their brown puppy-dog eyes and say "Sometimes, husbands take their wives to Victoria's Secret to buy them some..."

T-Bone!! Have you not learned anything?

You tell the wifey, "You go enjoy yourself, I'll stay with Mini-Bone."

  10. Hello everyone! I hope someone can help me here regarding my problem. I just found out that my wife is six weeks pregnant. However, we didn't have insurance yet. I discontinued my insurance at work early 2011 because our company withdrew the share of our health benefits. It means we have to pay it in full amount. My wife came in the US on Oct 2011. Last Dec. our company health insurance got terminated bec of group inelligibilty. Our company didn't offer any insurance alternatives at all. Then this came. Since my wife have a pre existing condition, most health insurance don't cover pregnancy at all. I heard this NY Bridge Plan program--Obama health insurance program that got approve recently that covered pre-existing condition. I'm wondering if this is part of the means-tested benefits?. Are we going to get in trouble if we apply for this program?

    Here's their site...thanks in advance!!!

This isn't free insurance, you have to pay a certain rate. It's just an option offered to the public, like HealthyNY. I don't think these are means tested benefits, as it's availablity is specifically for those with pre-existing conditions.

  11. In the workplace, I would avoid talking about politics, religion or any other controversial topic. It can get you into trouble.

I noticed that people like to talk about big news stories where I work (other than politics), like the Casey Anthony trial when it was going on, or the Italian Cruise Shipwreck. They can talk about this stuff until blue in the face.

    Another no-fail topic is FOOD.

  12. Where was their common sense when they crossed borders illegally?

Quite a bit of the people who apply for this waiver did, in fact, enter the country legally and therefore see this pathway as available to them. Some may have Visas where a renewal was denied, or some may have had temporary protective status that has expired or will shortly.

Just sayin', not every undocumented immigrant is a border-hopper.

  13. Are interview has finally been scheduled, but I noticed that on her NOA it said to bring a translator. My wife speaks Spanish, and very little English as of this point, so we figured being in Texas someone else would know; however, as I also speak Spanish, am I able to translate for her, or do I need to bring a third party?

    Daniel

It wouldn't hurt to make a phone call and just ask.
