Hi Canadians,
I have my 10 YR GC and am planning to file for USC within the next few months when its time. However we are planning on spending the summer in Montreal, so i rented a short term apartment and Voila. All good on my end..on to my Husband:
We are planning on driving up there with the SUV and a trailer with Furniture (as we have a ton of extra which is not needed here due to moving to a smaller house).
Will there be an issue going through the Canadian Border with my husband and a truckload of furniture? We have not filed anything on his behalf (we may once i am a USC still undecided). He has plenty keeping him here, 2 mortgages, 2 cars, a company that he owns/runs plus we are leaving our 2 dogs here as well.
I am not sure where to ask this question so figured the Canadian Off Topic would be the best place to start.
Any and all opinions and/or advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi,
You are fine. Just carry a copy of your marriage certificate and you will be fine. No it does not need to be certified.
The first few times i left the country i didnt bring my marriage certificate and the only place i had any issue with was leaving out of the U.K. So now i just carry it with me and no one else has ever asked for it.

Sorry for all you are going through. I do agree that this is his responsibility as its his GC and especially with everything you are going through medically.
You said that the letter stated "status has been revoked"? Doesn't that mean his temporary GC status revoked = no status? Correct me if i am wrong but you may want to at least "consult" an attorney before sending that out. I wasn't able to cut and paste but if you look at the I 751 Instructions paragraph 3 it states "you will automically lose your permanant residence". I guess what i am trying to get at it that as soon as you file this you should be prepared that he may get removed as he has been "out of status" for quite a few months now so you may want to research some legal help if you can.
Sending this in this late will remind them that he is still here with no status.

My check was cashed today... Yeah!!
I am hoping for my NOA1 today or tomorrow... I am a biit concerned as the notice to file reminder was sent to my old address even though I file the COA last December. I did send a copy of the signed COA with the package so hopefully they will get it.

Hi Everyone!
I am filing to remove my conditions in October, I have moved since i last dealt with USCIS.
Do I need to file to change my address before i file in October, or will it just be a given when file for ROC with my new address?

@trailmix, yeah we have car insurance and utility bills that are joint. I just wonder if that is enough...I can't go through what I went through with them for the conditional Green Card. They messed up pretty much every aspect of my case file...

Hi Everyone,
It's been a quick minute since I have shown myself on VJ. Hope everyone is doing well!
I have a few questions:
1. My husband and I are planning on going to Canada for a few months next year, it's mainly for educational reasons. I have a 3 month culinary course and he is taking his course for teaching English internationally. I am set to remove conditions in October 2010, will my leaving the US for 3-4 months have any diverse affect on this? (We have a condo here, as well as his entire company so obviously we have roots here)
2 This is a evidence question. Because of the way the economy is he has had to let some of his properties go and therefore potentially have them come after any and all assets he may have. In light of that, we have discontinued our "joint bank account" as i was using that primarily and I intend to keep my credit and savings protected. The condo is only in his name, all this to say we won't have a lot of "hard evidence", any suggestions or advice on what we could do or how strict they will be? I am not too worried about it, however we all know that USCIS likes to see "paper proof".

So, basically you only met in person for 8 days then decided to travel away from family and friends to marry her. Then you stay with her for 2 years (With her disability) and now "its not working" and the GC is "yours".
Hmm, I don't want to judge but uh something smells stinky like fish.

Well I got 3 and depending on how long it takes you to get the info back to them really. It took me the most a week to get the stuff back to them.
Also if you get an RFE for AOS, everything associated with it gets halted meaning your EAD and AP (assuming you are applying for those as well.
From start to finish I got my GC in 10 1/2 months, but they also messed up my receipt numbers so that had to get sorted and took an extra 3 months. : (

To be honest with you, and I have seen 2 examples of this. Trying to prove assets in Cash is even more difficult. I am just trying to help you out here.
I had about $7000 in a seperate savings account as well as the 30 houses my husband owns & rents and they told me to get a joint sponsor Twice.
But yeah, let us know what happens. I would love to see a case where the petitioner uses assets and actually gets approved (Just because I haven't witnessed one yet).

Please feel free to go through my posts in regards to using assets for your I864. I don't have the time of energy to type it all over again here.
But read through them, using your assets is very very tricky and I don't want to be a downer here but you may want to just lok into getting a joint sponsor. I will bet that in using solely your assets you will get an RFE for a joint sponsor.

My husband is self employed as well
I spoke with both a lawyer and and 2 IO's and the thing with using assests is this:
Yes "technichally speaking" you are allowed to use assets, however the way you send in those "proof of assets" is very very tricky. They all told me (after I had put together over 200 pages of proof of assets) that they are very particular about how it is submitted. I found out later on (at my interview) that most of it had not even been looked at. So, it just comes down to pure laziness on the side of USCIS.
At my interview the Officer (Very nice officer named Chris) I walked in and he immediatly gave me the huge stack and said "You can have this back I didnt have the time to shred it". LOL. all that hard work out the window.
My 2 suggestions are:
1. Get a joint sponosr OR
2. Wait to file your 2008 taxes and then send letters of employment.
I feel your pain, I really do. Please let me know if I can help in any way. That is what we are all here for.

I may sound harsh with the following: (warned)
She is living with her parents, has no job, is living off the government and taxpayers money already.
2 of her original 6 are autistic
She has had at least 2 surgeries on her face alone.
Where do you come up with $100,000 while living off of food stamps and disability checks or whatever
Her aging mom takes care of the 6 kids (did you see how tired and exhausted she looked on tv. The Grandmother that is)
I am furious at this lady. She is completely irresponsible and in mu opinion had the kids to get free stuff and have her 15 minutes of fame. Shame on her and the Stupid DR that fertilized her.
There are thousands of millions of children on this earth that need care and parents and help and she has the nerve to have 14 kids with no means of support or way to properly care for them.

I will try to help here.. as much as I can anyway.
1. All that matters to USCIS is what the income is on your tax return. Your 2007 tax docs should work (someone can correct me if I am wrong)
2. Using your assets to show you meet the poverty line is very difficult if not impossible. I learned this the hard way, for IE: My husband owns over 20 houses and I got an RFE for Additional evidence of this (assets in the $2 mils). I sent them a copy of the most recent mortgage statements, settlement and insurance and all leases for all houses. They told me in handwritten letter to get a sponsor.
My honest opinion is: YES get your parents to co sponsor you and they will be satisfied or wait till you file but I am quite sure you have to get this back to them within 30 days.

Hi All,
I am now a USC after having gone through the whole process with my USC Husband. Yeah!!!
I would like to petition for my 21 year old sister who already has a Artist Visa. She lives in the States legally already.
My question are:
1: Can i petition for her while she is living legally here in the US?
2: can i file the I-130/I485 together as i did or must i file the I-130 first and then once that is approved file the AOS?
3: Will she be eligible for the Work Permit and Travel Documentation that is filed with the AOS?
