  1. Hi Richo,

I got approved today and I only got 1 paper "Notice to Conditional Permanent Residents" and have me and my husband signed. And the lady also gave me back 1 copy of my certified copy of marriage certificate, coz she said they only need one to keep.

I also didn't get the passport stamped, since she said they no longer stamp it because the Green Card will arrive in the mail shortly, so it is not necessary.

Well, for your new address, sounds like you have done what you can do already, did you also fill out the change of address form from the post office? GOOD LUCK with you, keep finger cross then!!!

Congrats to your approval too  Yes i feel like ive done what I can do, yes i also fill out the change of address form and gave it to the mailman its a form that he gave me also and i told asked him many times ,"are you sure the letter fromUSCIS will be forwarded to me?" and he said yes i won't let you be kicked out of the country.lol  This is the same mailman that ive been stalking around then when i await my EAD hehe. Well I guess thats it and all I can do now is wait and also my case online hasn't change but oh well it is what it is

I was approved too. Did not get any paper on the interview day, nor stamp. The interviewer said that the welcome notice and card would arrive in mails ;)

  2. Hi there. I had my AOS interview this week where the officer took my I-94. They said 10 days to get my Greencard, but I am traveling overseas before my green card arrives. I have my AP forms, which he did not take. Since I have my AP forms, will I still need my I-94 or am I going to face trouble getting back into the country on Jan 3? Would telling my situation as I leave the US enable them to mark something into the system so they know I have left? I know the answers to these questions can't change me leaving but it would put my mind at ease knowing if anyone can help!

    Thanks.

You may be walking on thin ice. You should have asked for a I 551 stamp in your PP.

I had my greencard interview this week and the interviewer told me that while I'd be waiting for the card to arrive, my AP would no longer be valid. I will suggest you to schedule infopass then ask for the temporary greencard stamp on your passport.

    Good luck!

  3. So, this doesn't seem like it's about the cooking as much as it is a way for you to show love for your husband and have that love acknowledged. And maybe for him, it's just a matter of being set in his ways, or wanting to feel like he's still his own person. Or maybe he feels weird having you cook for him.

For example, C. and I had a fairly typical newlywed adjustment period in most respects, but it seriously took me several months to feel like I didn't have to be a hostess or keep him entertained, because he moved into my place, and it felt a bit like he was a guest even though he wasn't, if that makes sense. Maybe your husband feels awkward having you cook because it feels like he's not being a good host.

I'd first ask him whether he honestly enjoys your cooking. If he does, maybe it's the sort of thing the two of you can do together. Maybe you make a side-dish while he cooks a main dish, or maybe you teach him how to make Indonesian-style meals. Or you take over making desserts.

    Hi everyone,

I'm sooo excited to get all of the responses.

Btw, Last night when he was working I called him if he wanted to eat some chicken dish or anything when he got home -as I was making dinner for myself and would cooked more if he intended to eat when he got home. Anyways, he said no since he wanted to go straight to bed. When he arrived, he suddenly asked me if I cared for some seafood stir-fry or spaghetti, and I told him -with grumpy look- that I thought he did not want to eat late dinner. I guess he was a bit hungry. I don't understand. Since I already had big meal He decided to microwave some pita bread and fry some veggie burger. If I said yes, he would have cooked me big portion of stir fry or spaghetti. And I tell you what, since I arrived here, I've gained 6 kg's or about 13 pounds. He doesn't like me starting to get fat (I weigh 120 pounds now) but keeps spoiling me by cooking me big meal; or maybe I am not the who doesn't get used to North America's food portion LOL.

While he was eating last night I started asking him if he likes my cooking, and he said yes. I told him I felt unappreciated since he had never taken my favour regarding preparing meal. He told me that it's only my feeling, then later agreed on me preparing dinner one of these days. Oh well, we'll see.

  4. I myself am interested in any new food he cooks. However, I am not sure if it's people's attitude here. But back home, it's always nice to be nice to your spouse''s cooking (even goes with 'no matter how good or bad his/her cooking is').

I agree - it is nice to be gracious when your spouse does something for you. :)

One piece of advice - don't look at everything he does as an example of what 'Americans do.' You'll end up resenting him whenever you think he is just being 'American' as opposed to being a unique person with his own peculiar ways.

Ask him pointedly to honestly tell you whether he likes your cooking or not, and tell him how you feel when he doesn't really eat it. For my wife and I, it's the opposite - she's picky about what she'll eat, and there have been times when she wouldn't eat what I cooked, so now she does most of the cooking. Through conversations, she shared with me that her mother never forced her or her siblings to eat anything they didn't like. The problem is, she is too selective about what she'll eat though - like she'll eat tomato sauce, ketchup, but not whole tomatoes. She's slowly becoming more adventurous about trying new foods.

Thanks so much for all of yous' words of advice. I think I will try harder to just follow his taste (Ex: if he doesn't like too much gravy on Indonesian chicken dish then there's no point of me adding much of it).

And you guys are right that I should not think too much about it; doing other things, for ex. do well on my upcoming GMAT on January so that I will not just waste the money paid.

Also, from now on, I have to be a careful observant of his eating preference :) wish me luck!

  5. I don't see how's that a cultural problem? i thought every marriage is the same when it comes to one doing the cooking, the other doing the bills. it's one of those things that you discuss before getting married. For example, i like to cook, charles doesn;t cook, he knows i'lll be doing the cooking. I hate banking, he does the bills.

as for him not eating your cooking, there's a communication problem there. You can ask him what would he like for u to do different, if it's the seasoning or what. does he never weat out? is his food the only thing he eats? you can always cook only for ourself and let him cook for himself.

I believe it's cultural, most likely because back home in Indonesia husbands are usually their wives's big cooking fan. I want to feel some appreciation too, it's more like that. I think most people here are more independent and have no problem cooking your own food. He cooks for us all the time and I want to return that favour, and maybe a bit of appreciation. Very subjective eh?

As to eating out, yes we eat out somtimes (usually once a week or more depend on where we are).

  6. Are you saying that your husband likes 'westernized' Indonesian cooking? If so, then that is a palette issue and that seems to be the case as you are saying he likes 'restaurant food' but not the pot luck home cooked foods.

I guess what needs to be identified is how much this is an issue about the food itself and how much it is an issue about who does the cooking.

I would not say he likes westernised food since we picked carefully those restaurants we went to in Amsterdam, both were very authentic and far from westernised (the owners are Indonesians). He also loved those food he ate in Indonesia too, from all his visits (even ayam goreng dish he ate in small food stall on street bank). But I think I will ask him why he doesn't like my cooking. However, he's not very expressive, and I can foretell he will say (I have been cooking all his life thing), but let's hope it will be something different. My conclusion for now is that he doesn't get used to having things done by other people.

Anyways, I think I just want to nag but I don't know how I will do it, so I just vent it here :( But I am so happy with your responses and again, thanks!

  8. Um, have you told your partner how you feel about it? If he doesn't like the food from your region though, it doesn't say anything about your abilities as a cook, but all about your husband's palette. He probably doesn't understand why it upsets you - but, I don't know.

He loves Indonesian food (Especially the sea food, Ayam goreng, and nasi goreng). He even loved those Indonesian food we had when we went to Amsterdam (Dutch used to be Indo's colony for over 350 yrs in the past). So, I don't know what's wrong. I think he seems to like Indonesian food cooked at restaurants or hotels.

I have a small Indonesian community here who has a regular meeting every other week, and they seem to like my food (the meeting is potluck style).

When I asked him why, that he said that 'he's been cooking all his life and he likes it'. I really don't mind it, but I'd be very happy if he will also eat my food and show a bit appreciation. I don't think he's going to change. When I think about it, sometimes I feel sad. I do not have motivation to try new recipes either since he will not be too interested. It's different cause people back home loves to be taken care of by their wives and usually wife's big cooking fan.

Anyways, thanks a lot for your response, and I might try asking that to him once again, though I am not sure the answer will be different next time.

Sad... :( Regardless of if he's been cooking all his life he should see that cooking for your spouse is one more way of showing your love and be appreciative that he has a wife who wants to cook for him. I am lucky that Govi knows how to cook and he has said at least until he finds a job that he will do a lot of cooking for us - he even knows how to make roti  I am looking forward to some yummy Nepali food cooked with love. (L)

Oh That's a very sweet of you. I am sure he's very pleased that you're looking forward to it!

Hm, I don't think I am a bad cook since other people can enjoy my cooking (the people of Indonesian community here). Anyways, he doesn't seem to always enjoy what people bring too in this meeting. To me, it's delicious and sometimes more than what you can get at restaurants.

What I feel uncomfortable is that he doesn't seem to be too interested in my cooking. I myself am interested in any new food he cooks. However, I am not sure if it's people's attitude here. But back home, it's always nice to be nice to your spouse''s cooking (even goes with 'no matter how good or bad his/her cooking is').

  11. does he do the grocery shopping and all the laundry too? If so be happy!!! :)

I told him that I would do all laundry but sometimes he likes to intervene too. We do grocery shopping together though since it's the deal (if I had not told him it upset me when he went by himself, he would have just done it by himself).

    :D

  13. Hi All,

Just wondering, if you guys have problems with you spouse -who was a single for a long time before marrying you, such as: he/she seems to be kind of individual so that he/she is the one who cooks most of the time, handles all the bills, and so on.

If you do, what seems to be the further implication of it on your marriage? E.g: do you feel less appreciated since he/she most likely won't enjoy what you cook and not willing to eat it (since it's probably not his style and that he's been cooking all his life), or did he ever blame you if some bill is missing (since it's probably your fault for you're the one who sometimes picks the mails), and stuff?

My hubby has been cooking all his life and he likes to stick with it. But sometimes I feel less appreciated since he won't sacrifice one dinner time to only eat my food. Even if he eats it, he will still cook something. On the other hand, I have always eaten what he cooks and take the difference in our cooking style gladly.

I'd be very happy if you could participate a bit in this topic :)

    Cheers

  14. Hello,

I think you should wait until you get the greencard. However, the wait will not be as bad. With my case, I arrived here under K-2 on June this year, mailed the AOS application June 18th, had the interview today, Dec 8th 2008. We were approved and I will send out my grad school application school before the deadline of April 1st 2009. During the wait time, I was able to do GRE and TOEFL (while my GMAT is coming up on January 30th).

Plus, it's important to check with the uni you're interested in attending so that you can arrange everything in the sound order of time; for ex. if you need to do some prerequisite courses and take GRE.

I hv my finger crossed, good luck! :)

I just received this from the consulate:

"Thank you for your patience in awaiting a response to your inquiry.

According to the USCIS office in Bangkok, Thailand, you would be in violation of your K-1 status if you entered a study program prior to having your K1 status adjusted to lawful permanent residency.

    Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    Visa Assistant

    U.S. Consulate General

    Immigrant Visa Unit

    Level 59 MLC Centre

    19-29 Martin Place

    Sydney NSW 2000"

Is there an intermediate study visa I can apply for? I am now very worried :(

  15. Hi,

My wife and kids have their interviews scheduled for Jan 22 in Tukwila, WA which is close to Seattle which is about 150 miles from home. We live in Vancouver, WA which is just across the river from Portland, OR. There is a USCIS office in Portland which is about twelve miles from our house. Does anyone know if it is possible to change which office we have the interview at? Because immigration is a federal issue and not a state issue it seems that it shouldn't matter what state we live in but that might just be to logical.

    Thanks,

    Zak

    Hello,

We live in Vancouver as well and will have an interview Dec 8th in Tukwila, WA. I do not think you can change that though. My hubby had his citizenship interview there too, so it seems to be that they do all interviews of those residing in WA. Good luck to you two on the interview!

  16. Dear all,

I wonder if we (ex- K-1 holder) will have to leave our passport after AOS interview. The problem is, I will hv to do TOEFL on Dec 20th (while my aos interview will be on Dec 8th). I am afraid they will not have returned my passport by then since I will need it for the TOEFL ID requirement on Dec 8th.

Your response will be greatly appreciated. Cheers. Ranie.

  17. Thank you so much. Well, I am not planning to go back to school right now because of money. My husband decided to go back to grad school next fall.

I am trying to get at least part time work. I do not mind starting out as a part time worker and moving up.

I hope this economy will gets better soon.

I went to one major department store interview. Again, so many applicants. And most of them are in mid 40-50's. Wow.

    Let's hope everyone:)

Try Target. Is there one close by? I had my first job interview there three weeks ago and got the job. Nothing fabulous, but at least I can get out of the house and make some friends :)

  18. I am equally worried with my GC application. I went for infopass appt on Oct 26, 08 and told that it was pending security clearance and my file is in Missouri. Here is how;

    May 10 8 appl sent i130/485/765/131

    May 30, 08 received NOA

Jun 5, 08 received Biometrics appt

    Jun 26, 08 did fingerprints

    online message "pending"

Oct 26, 08 went for USCIS infopass appt

As a matter of fact I have over 5 friends who received within 3 -5 months while am waiting. Is there anything special done at FBI as regards to security clearance? I have no criminal record at all - is there anyting they look for other than FP? Is my relationship with my previous employers at home have anything to do with the delay?

    thanks

I received today my NOA1 for I-130 and I-485, and the receipt number starts with MSC (Missouri National Benefits Center).

Does anybody know what are the processing times for Missouri? I looked at USCIS website, but neither I-130 or I-485 is listed under MSC. Anybody else filing for AOS whose receipt number starts with MSC?

    Thanks!

    Hi

My case number starts with MSC as well. As you can see in my timeline, I sent the AOS on June. I had my biometrics appointment on July 15th, and today I just received the interview letter in my mailbox. I hope you guys get it soon. Hang in there, it's just kinda slow I think. I am sure you will have it within two months or so. Good luck!

  19. What's the hurry? They will get to your case in due time. You already have the EAD and AP, so relax and wait your turn.

Glad to know that I'm not the only one waiting this long! No hurry, I just started wondering if the wait was kinda unusual compare to others'. It looks like I will have the interview in Seattle for I live in WA.

Thx anyone for you information :)

50/50 chance of an interview.... Do you check your status online?

Yes I do. There has not been a single touch since the biometrics appointment :)

My I-485 case was not viewable online for 6+ months after filing. My case first came online when I notified USCIS of change of address 3 months ago and showed an update at that time.

The only one I've seen since that time is the Card Production Ordered touch, nearly 3 months later. Believe me, I checked every day from the day I got the Interview letter 'til the day I saw the Card Production Ordered!

Obsessive? Yes! But I can guarantee you that there were no touches in that time!

I have not heard anyone say that they got a touch when the interview letter was sent out - it just arrives in the mail one day. Usually, those whose cases are transferred to CSC show a transfer of case touch.

    Hi All,

I just grabbed mails from the mailbox and got the USCIS interview letter. It will be on Dec 8th in Seattle WA.

The problem is that I lost my I-94 (arrival small piece of card) when I applied for Schengen visa in France embassy in California. I only have the copy. Do you think it will be a prob?

Also, do we have to bring another affidavit of support despite we already submitted one along with the application?

Thanks a lot guys for your help :)

OMG, I just checked my document bag and found my I-94!!! Gosh, so relieved...

  23. Not to worry, I also have absolutely no touch since my biometrics apt. Just have to be patient I guess :) Hang in there!

hi guys it's nicollete here.. been awhile since the last time i posted here. been busy at work..HEHE.. CONGRATS to all who got Approved!!! hmm...i'm just wondering...almost every1 here got their GCs already and INTERVIEW LETTERS... waaaaaaaaaaah!!!!!!! how come i havent gotten ours yet??? is this normal????? :innocent:

    Hello,

Nice to have you back. It seems like they are still sending out letters for interviews so it's not too late..when you'll have 90 days since your case was touced you can go ahead and call them to see what is going on...What is your online status saying?

are you sure about that the2ofus? I can call if I had no touches???I never had a touch since the first beginning , my last update is the same as the day my file got on line....

Hoping for good news for everyone this week!

Usually they say to check the timelines for your local office..and if you are out of the processing times to call them...but I remember this even from last year when my husband filed for citizenship, that if it's been more than 90 days since the last notice (no matter what you filed for) they will look into it
