  1. Many ways to go--Many go the ADn route--then continue on with the BSN--why??? ADN is cheaper AND then many employers pay for ur education--wel part of it--so much a yr!! $$$ thats out of their pocket, not yours!! And the pay difference between an ADN and BSN is nothing to very little! There are some super $$$$ schools out their! Do your research, there are many great ADN programs out here at a fraction of the cost--then let ur employer pick up the BSN, MSN cost! AND their is a high burnout of nurses!! SOOOO many students think they are going to save the world, going to love nursing, i'm going to do this, going to do that---then reality sits in----they hate it!! Just saying! Nursing isn't for everyone!! I could go on and on,lol off to work!

Thanks for the comment. I'm seeking the BSN because I hope to go to a nursing graduate program later. That simply explains why. That's very true that nursing is not for everyone, and that implies in everything else as well :). Was only offering my insight to the Romanian lady who's trying to decide on a school major that might suit her.

  2. I was debating either to do ocupational therspist or nursing, but i was never really good at chemistry, and i am not sure if nursing requires chemistry. Also, i heard you have to get your RN because not a lot of people hire CNA's. I heard it's hard to het your RN, it takes 4 years, and it is not easy AT ALL.

I have been thinking...AND ..if i end up going back to school it will have to be something really good where the job market is up and coming, that will also give me a job almos right away, i don't want to get into debt and still going back to square one: having a hard time finding a job. ALSO, i have some friends that have a collage degree...and they make anywhere from $8-14 an hour  . I hate to say this but it's almost no point to go to school for 4 years get yourself into debt for a long time, just to make the same amount of money as the guy without the degree. And i am saying this because this is america...the land where without a degree you can make 6 figures a year. If you are smart you can promote and possibly make more money that even somone with a masters degree.

I hate to sound materialistic, but now days the way this world works we are forced to focus on more practical profesions rather than doing somethign we love, unfortunatelly that's a luxury that most of us don't have.

Oh, forgot to address the chemistry course. You may only be required to take "Introduction to Chemistry" (in my college, it falls under course code 'Chem 121'). Most associate nursing program only requires you to take that. And after you're done with the associate, you can always transfer to a four-year college/university get the BSN if you wish so. Most four-year colleges/universities offer bachelor's in nursing (BSN), if you want to go straight without doing a transfer. Again, make sure you check with the school for the prerequisites.

  3. There are different routes to become a RN--ADN takes takes around 3 by the tiem you get the pre-course courses completed! Many just require a basic chem course, i suck at Chemistry but managed to get A's!! Starting wage for a RN, ADn or BSn varies from state to State. In the Dc area one can expect around $25 an hr + shift differential to start. Easy make $60,000 a yr working 3 --12 hr shifts a week. Depending on what kind of floor you work on--your super busy!! 12 hrs fly by in no time + and - of all jobs!! And yep school can be difficult, just requires effort. But there are many different fields of nursing to go into and once you have experience, can pretty much get a job anywhere. allnurses.com is a decent site

Shooting for RN myself, and planning to get the BSN (long term, I hope to be a nurse practitioner. Hopefully by the age of 40! -I am turning 26 this year).

The prerequisite courses vary per college, so you might want to check with the college/university you're planning to apply at. Nursing school is a very competitive so just make sure you get the perfect score in order to get in -at least that's my attitude. I guess a few B's won't hurt -depending on how high the scores of other applicants.

Nursing is a very rewarding field. You should give it some thoughts! Perhaps all you need to do is just go ahead take the prerequisites and see how it goes for you. Well, good luck with whatever path you'll take :)

  4. You are right.

Sounds about right. However, most community colleges do NOT require TOEFL score, you'll take their placement test (reading, writing, math) and it'll determine your math level, and also whether or not you need to take some reading class before going any further. So you kinda know where to start from.

Most four-yr colleges/universities, on the other hand, require you to take TOEFL.

This is based on my personal experience. I have a BA majoring Communications (from my home country Indonesia) and was considering to go to either graduate school or nursing school. Applied to a local state university for two grad programs, took their institutional TOEFL, and got accepted in both. But I changed my mind and am currently working on my nursing prerequiste courses at a local community college. Only have two more classes to do and been getting straight A's. As long as you have a strong foundation in English, math and other basic science subjects you should be ok. Good luck! :)

  5. "In Chongqing City of Sichuan Province in China, a little boy who can't eat candy yet already knows how to smoke and curse, due to the bad influence of some adults at the local food market where his parents earn a living selling fish."

This is very sad. Can you, who speaks the language, translate the talk for me pls?

  6. Ok, so here is my dilemma...my husband is Muslim...he will be here very soon (we are at NVC now). I was talking to someone today from Jordan (here in the states) and he mentioned halal meats. He explained all of that to me and now I am worried. I guess I didn't realize that there was the halal aspect to the foods allowed to be eaten in the Isalmic religion (as I am Christian I am not very educated on this). The guy I was talking to mentioned halal marshmallows and then that really threw me for a loop. I really didn't realize that some pork bi products were used to make these kinds of things, like gelatin. So to get to the point, I live in a rather small town. There is one place I know of that sells halal meats & a few other things. So is there a list of brands that you can buy...stuff like chips, chocolate...etc? I'm scared to buy the wrong thing!!! On top of that all of my family is Christian and they buy their meat from the regular grocery store, so I am guessing we are going to have to take our own meat to family gatherings because I cannot be sure that what they are serving is halal (not to mention going to all the restaurants around here, pretty sure NONE of them serve anything remotely halal except veggies).....I want to make sure my husband is comfortable here and that he doesn't have to worry about what he is eating...any suggestions, tips, your experiences if you are/have been in a similar situation would be very helpful. Sorry its long-winded but I want to get the point across.

    Amanda

Yes, as Allah/God promises to ease things, I do the same as the other poster does. Whenever I eat out and the halal chicken or beef isn't available, I say 'bismillah'.

However, husband and I do not cook non-halal meat at home since we have options here (the halal meat store is quite reachable, about 35-40 minute away from home). I suggest you to cook more seafood at home, since there's no halal-haram term on it.

Btw, I am touched on your effort in providing him a comfortable environment. God bless! :)

  7. Can anyone please tell me if they have received their green card after the interview WITHOUT ever getting an online update or approval notice online from the USCIS website?

We were verbally approved last week and told to look for the geencard in the mail in about 10 days, but our online case status has never changed....still "pending". I just hope my wifes GC shows up in the mail any day now.....

Don't worry abt it. The same case happened to me. I received the greencard after two weeks. Hang in there it'll come to you! :)

  8. You shouldn't have any problems......

However, if your passport is in your maiden name and green card is in your married name, take a copy of your marriage license.

Thanks very much for the advice, I will bring both the legitimate and copy of my marriage certificate with me.

  9. Hello there,

I will be travelling by myself to visit family and friends in Indonesia. Unfortunately hubby has to work so he won't be with me. Is there any possible problem in US POE that I should anticipate? I already have my two-year green card.

Any comment will be greatly appreciated :)

  10. I think the more modern and less religious Iranians would think your husband is a bit off. telling you he was only half-way happy with you in Iran says it all. Denying you healthcare insurance is just crazy. Separation, then running off to Thailand/India sounds like the perfect solution for you.

So Tina, are you going to just vacation and clear up your mind in India and Thailand for seven months? What's the next plan?

My heart goes out for you :(

  11. hello guys, this questions are for all the american men who married to a filipina

WHY DO YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE A FILIPINA WHEN YOU HAVE ALL THE CHANCE TO MARRY AN AMERICAN LADY AND YOU DONT HAVE TO WORRY OF ALL THOSE BIG EXPENSES AND NOT TO WAIT FOR SO LONG TO BE TOGETHER AND THEN EXPERIENCE THE ADJUSTING PERIOD BECAUSE YOU HAVE DIFFERENT CULTURE AND BELIEFS? I ASK THE SAME QUESTIONS TO MY HUSBAND AND THIS WHAT HE SAID " I'VE LEARNED MY LESSONS AFTER THE 2 DIVORCES I HAD" :( THATS SO SAD BUT IS IT TRUE?.

CAN YOU PLEASE DESCRIBE US FILIPINAS TROUGH YOUR POINT OF VIEW

well i would be glad to answer this question. First i will state the common known fact that most Filipina make the best wives! In the states this is common knowledge. Next, on a more personal note, I have also had 2 divorces from American wives. I am not saying that it was their fault but it was a difference between western and filipina value systems. Most western women that i have experienced have a value system based on being "spoiled" growing up, not to say that they are spoiled but the life they experienced is far different than the average filipina. This makes a filipina much more grateful for the hard work and things here Bana can provide as well as having a strong devotion to family and her husband. Most American men find these to be the most important qualities in a wife. Filipina are most times loyal to their husbands with little desire to have other "men experiences" clouding their minds, thinking about what else might be out there or what they might be missing. The thing I personally looked for in my wife was a good heart, strong compassion for others, and a solid belief in the marriage vows we took. I have learned that these are values most Filipina have in common with each other and I believe this makes them very desirable for a spouse. I hope this answers your question.

I am still wondering though, why filipinas? I am from Phil's neighbour country and I would say that some Southeast Asian countries' ladies are not that much different with Filipina's in terms of holding family orientation value. Let's say.. Thai, Indonesian, or Malaysian. I have had this question a long ago too, it's not answered yet :P

  12. Hi there,

I wonder if you, Indonesian-American couple under K-1 route also have Indonesian marriage certificate. I was told by someone that we should have one. Any idea?

    Thanks in advance :)

No, and HELL NO! Married people don't qualify for K1 visas. If you get married anywhere but the USA within 90 days of entry using the K1 visa, you'll be starting over again filing an I-130 petition for a spouse visa.

I mean, Indonesian marriage certificate or what they call as marriage report certificate, after marriage is done overseas. I read that it needs to be done only for those who intend to stay in Indonesia (after living some time overseas), yet there's a notion that says that this report certificate is still needed even though the couple does not have intention to live in Indonesia. The implication is that this report certificate is going to make it easier for the couple if they intend to buy property in Indonesia in the future. Also, if the kid will decide later to be Indonesian citizen, it will be legally recognized for the marriage has been reported to Indonesian government; otherwise, the kid will be considered born out of wedlock.

Indonesians, anyone has the knowledge about it?

  13. Well, this has become a busy topic....

Kenya has it's share of bombings and and so forth, but overall, the people that guide tours generally keep you out of harms way.

The comment about watching your wallet, stems from street gangs that will forcibly remove it from your pocket.

    Solution: Have two wallets.

Wallet one: put some false/expired ID in it, along with $15-20. Have this one in your purse/back pocket.

Wallet two: All the valuables reside here and the wallet is tucked away safely under your clothing.

Good idea regarding the wallet. Or maybe hubby and I will get money belts as an alternative. Thank you so much!

  14.

I have been to both countries. Although, I only did a safari tour in Kenya.

Trust me on this, Kenya is much safer overall than Indonesia. Relax and you only need to watch your wallet.

Seriously? Would u pls explain how you could say it's overall safer than Indo?

    Thanks in advance :)

He's been to both countries. He's in a position to make the comparison.

Have you been to both countries?

I am an Indonesian, btw I really meant the question. I am curious to learn at what context Kenya is safer than Indo ;)

    Are you challenging William33's claims?

And if so, just so we know, have you visited both countries?

Actually I am kinda excited that someone said that it's safer than Indo

Looks like I won't have to worry about safety in Kenya. Plus, we will be traveling with 12 other people (if the trip is fully booked)

No, not challenging at all. In fact, I will be very grateful if William can provide me more information about safety in Kenya.

I lived in Indo all my life before moving here so I have a pretty sound knowledge as to what the situation there is like ;) I believe William has a sound knowledge too since he had visited Indo most likely several times. It's easy to have a rough idea of what the safety is like in Kenya since he compares it with a place I am familiary with.

  17. Hello!

We had our interview on Dec 8th and was approved. It's confusing since my uscis online account status doesn't change yet. There was not even an update about the interview notification whatsoever despite out case had moved this far.

Is there anyone having the same situation?

I am just wondering since I am afraid that might procrastinate our welcome letter.

Any response will be greatly appreciated. Thanks and happy holidays!

    Hi!!

I just wanna ask , whats the latest update you see on your application online? And how did you know about your interview? Through letter or call?

We had an RFE and the last update that I see online was when they receive the response of the RFE.. I already got my EAD but with my AOS, there is none. I'm just hoping they are working on our I 485 form and not forget about it.

    Thanks in advance.

    hi gladys,

answer already sent to your inbox :)

    good luck!

    Hi All,

Just wanted to tell you that I had an online update for the case, it says that card production is ordered! Yahooooo :)

  18. I am not sure how everyone's parents feel about international marriage.

I married USC and he has been a wonderful person. BUT, he is from a family which is very different from

my family. I grew up in Japan and my parents are very hardworking and supported me to get education in the US.

They paid for my education in the US( undergraduate)

and also they always save money and organize things for the future.

I lived with my grand parents and great grand mother. We all lived together and shared.

My dad worked so hard to get his career and my mother works held her own career as an independent woman until recently. My family said education is the most important thing that they can give to their children.

Now, my family grew up with a single mother. She has been divorced twice and has been dating several men.

She could not even pay for his education, but she spends a lot of money on her brand bags and fancy cloths.

His father cannot help financially either.

My parents are very disappointed by my decision to marry my husband. He graduated from really good college. But,

a family as a whole, his family is very different from my family. And my parents are not even planning to come to the US and meet my husband's parents. They did not participate on my small wedding either.

And one time, I was so stressed out by my husband's debts from his college years, My mother told me that if his parents cannot come up with the same amount of money my family comes up, she will not going to help out. It is not just fair.

I totally understand that. It sounds like my husband's parents try to take an advantage of my family.

So, of course we will never be able to get a house or anything.

I started saving my income for our future down payment. Also we are thinking about moving to a different place where things are cheaper.

    How are your parents?

I am sorry to hear about your situation. I hope things will get better somehow. Just be patient, keep trying hard to work on the issue and pray :)

I had a difficulty as well in the effort to make my parents accept my foreign spouse. It is interesting that he's actually a Japanese, though he was actually born and raised in Canada; and he only visited Japan once when he was 16. however, in about a year, we finally won my parents' heart. (I mean in a year after we announced our relationship; anyhow we had a complete blessing for the marriage since I think my parents thought they had no other choice and felt like they're going to lose me if they kept disapproving  )

My parents were mostly worried about cultural things (as they're pretty conservative), yet I guess they're relieved to know now that my husband is very nice and far from 'westernised' (anyone, no offence!)

Now my relationship with my parents is better than ever and I am very happy with this.

How's everything now so far? I would be very happy if you have some positive progress as to your situation.
