  1. I'm sorry for the confusion. It has been my experience that with the O1, people do use the term renew when they mean extend. I do believe anyone who has had an O1 would understand what I meant.
  2. Renewal/extension are often used interchangeably for the O1. Yes, technically it's an extension, but people who have had it for a long time, like me, may say renewal. I have had 3 different O1 visas, all of which have been extended ("renewed") many times from within the US. Renewal vs extension is just semantics.
  3. Thanks for your opinion. I'm really only looking for a specific answer to my question, not general immigration advice.
  4. The criteria for O-1 are much lower than an employment-based green card. If I were eligible, then I would apply. I have an excellent immigration lawyer.
  5. I have an O1 visa. I renew it annually from within the US. I do not have to leave the country to renew it. Advance parole does not apply to my situation. I think it's probably not an uncommon question among O-1 visa holders, but it's true that there aren't that many O-1 visa holders. Thanks for your efforts to help.
  6. Current wait times for EADs are all over the place. My immigration lawyer said that they are often taking 8-12 months. My question is whether anyone in the same situation (pending AOS application, and as part of that, a pending EAD application) has successfully renewed an O1. The concern is an interruption in employment if the O1 expires before the EAD is approved. Thanks.
  7. Does anyone have experience trying to renew an O-1 visa with a pending AOS? I have consulted with two different immigration lawyers about this and both agree it may or may not be renewed because the O-1 is sort of a grey area when it comes to dual intent. I've had an O-1 for several years and it's at the point where I need to reapply annually, so the timing is difficult given that wait times for an EAD can be almost a year. Wondering if anyone can share personal experience with this.
  8. I stated that this is the reason for the timing of the wedding, not for the marriage itself. What a rude and insulting comment. And frankly, just bizarre. Absolutely nothing I said implied that I was getting married for immigration benefits and not for love.
  9. I'm in the US on an O-1 visa. I've had it since 2018 and it now needs to be renewed/extended annually. Currently I'm waiting to hear if the next 1-year extension will be granted. My visa has actually expired, but because I submitted the extension application prior to the visa expiration date I'm still here legally. My question is whether I can get married right now, while the my I-129 for the O-1 is pending review. The rush is that we want to submit I-130 and I-485 right away after the O-1 is approved (which I think it will be) so that I have a full year left on the visa. I'm trying to avoid an interruption in work. Thanks for any help and apologies if this is the wrong spot for this question.
