  1. We filed K3 and my husband flew in to Chicago on a O/W ticket through Alitalia. We had no problems. I purchased the ticket online, he printed his confirmation and took it to the counter in Cairo and got his boarding passes.

Ahmed's trying to get a ticket to come back with us this September, but when he went to the Air France counter to ask about buying a ticket, they told him that since he's Egyptian he's not allowed to enter the US without a roundtrip ticket. Of course, he didn't tell the agent what kind of visa he has, or that he is immigrating, not visiting. :bonk::bonk: Did your partners enter with a one way or a round trip ticket? I know at least one person who's entered on a one-way, but it was a few years ago, not sure if things have changed since then or not. I tried calling Air France, they said they didn't know. I'm scouring google now, but thought I'd ask here too.

My understanding Amy is that a K3 visa is a non-immigrant visa, therefore he will have to purchase a R/T ticket.

We had a CR1 which is an immigrant visa, therefore allowing my husband to purchase a one way ticket.

Well, it's confusing, because the embassy processes it as an immigrant visa. is there some way to tell the difference on the actual visa itself? does the CR1 visa have a expiration date on it like the k3 does?

  2. Thanks so much for the info. I guess I should call some airlines and try to figure out how do to book for him. I don't think most airlines in US will let you book a flight that originates outside the USA. Not sure though

I don't think you will have a problem finding an airline. I use NWA/Delta most of the time when I fly to Egypt. I would have used them for Ahmed's ticket but Alitalia just happened to be cheaper with the shortest layover. I booked his flight on my side. As long as you have his name spelled as it is on the visa/passport, It should be fine.
