  1. Open an account in BPI or BDO and send the atm visa card in the US. That person can withdraw money thru atm up to $400 a day for a service charge of $2 per withdrawal. That's how my parents sent me money when I was in the US for months.

Maraming salamat sa inyo. Should it be a dollar account? And in my name or anybody in my family will do?

My BDO account was in peso. The atm card should have the visa logo. Then you can withdraw thru any atm machines na may VISA logo din pero syempre, dollar lalabas sa atm sa US.

My BPI account is in dollar pero pwede din peso. Basta the atm card should be international.

  2. Call these numbers na lang so they can explain more precisely. Take note that I don't own or I don't have shares in this company.

    Look for Jojo Cabrera (female)- Tel no. (02) 729-8048, 729-8126, 886-3557, 886-4035

Their office is in Makati and since Im in the province, they sent the magicjack thru courier (Air21). I ordered it Tuesday, I got it yesterday.

  3. Ria: Yeah i gotcha coz you plug in a regular phone in the magic jack ;). Ill explain it to you in laymans term hehe.

You have modem (for your cable or dsl connection) or a patch (if you have a wireless connection like SmartBro). Your computer is plugged into the modem where it gets its internet connection. Magic Jack is kinda like a jump drive that you plug into the computer's usb port.

So its like: modem ----> computer ----> Magic Jack ----> regular phone

(unless you have a router then its gonna be a different story)

The source of your internet connection is the modem. Since the computer comes first before the Magic Jack... that means if the computer loses internet connection.... the Magic Jack wont work. So its possible that if the computer is massively sending and receiving information thru the internet.... it might slow down the connection of the Magic Jack. It will still have a dial tone BUT its choppy... but thats temporary and minor. You just need to close all browsers (internet explorer, firefox, opera...etc)... and exit any downloading engine (like utorrent, bittorrent, limewire.... etc). And its back to normal.

Ill try to find it here so i can test it too. Weeeeee i have a new toy.

Uh, you explained it well! HAHAHA! Told you Im not good at all these techie stuff. I just try harder because of my fiancee in the US. Gotta find ways to cut down the cost.

  4. Ping,

Ito naman ang going rate sa Manila.

Ria, Sorry kung KJ ako sa presyo. :P

May ganyan din kami. Ok siya. Pero masgusto ko ang webchats. May video kasi. Anyway, ang importante naman nakakausap natin ang mga mahal natin sa buhay. :)

Sus! Actually if the P3,000 is true medyo namahal yata ako. But I thought of the P6,000 that I was spending each month on PLDT Budget cards. And Stephen is spending $200 a month... he is paying 19 cents per minute. So I will cut down his phonebill and put that to our savings...

  5. I looked at this and while it's promising it requires broadband... which my fiancee does not have (well, or a computer). Can I get magic jack with a manila phone number so that she can call using her cell or whatever local line is available without having extra fees (is local calling in the philippines part of a standard fee or is that usage based, it'd be nice to be able to spend more time talking on the phone)?

U can buy it in the US and you can call her Manila number for free. That's what I know. You may want to check out their website www.magicJack.com.

  7. Oh btw, Ria... can you test it for me if you are free. ;) PRETTY PLEASE. :D

Try downloading a movie thru utorrent or any huge file in bittorrent and check if the quality of the line fluctuates... if it gets choppy(?)... coz its internet based. Its connected to the computer, its somehow dependent on the computer's internet usage... they are sharing bandwidth.

    (Kulit ko no?!)

Huh? Ok I will try but I guess you missed the part where I said Im dumb when it comes to computers. Lol! All I can say is... the quality is like a regular phone. YOu know like PLDT, BAYANTEL, SMART etc etc.

Oh and by the way, no monthly or annual fee of $19.95. I just paid P4,500 for MagicJack and that's it.

Hi Ria, when you told about this magic jack, I searched for this in sulit.com.ph and yes, there are lots of people selling this (in different prices!)... P4500 is a bit high coz I saw that you can buy it for less than P3000... Did your seller explained to you that the P4500 you paid is only good for 1 year? and after this you pay $19.95 per year (depends if you want to renew the services)...

I asked her just now, she said no $19.95 after a year. That is if you buy that in the US daw. But here in Philippines, one time payment of P4,500. I saw their ad at Philippine Star newpaper.

  9. OH WOW its cheaper than Vonage. We have to pay $239.99 for their Annual Residential Premium Unlimited Plan. Before that it was $24.99 per month. THIS is just $19.95 per month.:wow:

Its the same concept, you need a broadband connection, unlimited calls to US/Canada and you can pick any US area code. Except the voice gateway is a LOT smaller and you connect it to the computer's usb port.

Vonage's voice gateway is connected directly to the modem (thru ethernet ports). Both the computer (ethernet port) and phone (RJ11) are both plugged in to the voice gateway.

Whaaaaa i am amazed! Im going to get that for my family when i move to TX. I thought of leaving the Vonage voice gateway but they dont know how to configure it or set it up *scratches her head*.

Oh sorry.... im rambling hehe. This excite me! Its a must buy! (Parang ahente ako no hahaha)

For comparison: Magic Jack - http://www.magicjack.com/1/index.asp

    Vonage - http://www.vonage.com/

For those who doesnt know: THESE are PHONES that uses broadband (cable or DSL) internet connection instead of a regular phone line.

Ping, buy the Magic Jack here in Philippines. We only pay one time payment of P4,500. Thats it. No monthly fees. No $19.95 a month.

  10. Hey guys! I just want to share...

I recently bought Magic Jack. It has been here in Philippines for only a month (that's what the lady said). My fiancee saw it in a TV ad in US 6 months ago but he made a research about it first and he was discouraged with the consumer review. I didn't know about his story but I saw the ad in a newspaper here in Philippines. I decided to surprise him because the lady told me that she will give me a phone number with the same area code of my fiancee's. So there. I got the shipment yesterday and was so nervous that I might be scammed. But after 30 mins of figuring it out, (Im kinda dumb when it comes to computers) I started calling my fiancee for FREE!!! It worked! It is clear and so easy to use, just like an ordinary phone.

This is only my first day to use Magic Jack. Let's see what happens in the next few days. I am not here to endorse this product. I am speaking as consumer,as someone who doesn't want her fiancee in the US to spend his hard earned money on phone bills and as someone who only wants to help her vj family.

  11. Ria , you know if your DV is still at the NSO try to call pj i know he will not give you any information regarding your paper but try to explane to him your situation about what happen to your case i can tell his a nice guy to be honest with you i was really begging pj just to push out my DV to USEM i made also my husband to call them 3times untill pj confirmed to us that our DV was to be picked up by Emily I know its hard to beg but at least we tried and do what we need to do

Thanks boyceedith. Will do that... last time I called, a lady picked up the phone and she didnt let me talk to PJ because she said they have instructions from USEM not to give out infos. But then again, you are right... an explanation and pleading would help. Ok, time to push it. I don't mind begging. Thanks again.

  12. Hello just for an update ,Loraine said the Co almost done reviewing my paper and she advised my husband to call back on friday wow ! hope visa will be release this week ......i am very thankful to the Almighty God that's a good signed for me....Halleluyah !!!!

Hope you get your visa soon! :) My wife just called Grace and my DV is not yet with them. I paid my DV last August 27 and was asked to pay again after my interview last Sept. 17. Hopefully, I'll get encouraging news next Monday.

Yes, same here. DV is not there yet. I paid DV August 21 but they sent it Sept 9. So basically, my case is just there... collecting dust and webs but then again it may not be cuz it might be under the papers of the 6,000 applicants!

    AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :crying:

  13. hubby just called USEM.. they already have the decision in my case its already approved and ready to print.. Im in K3 with 3 kids.. my sons case is also done, but my 2 daughters case is not yet done because the CO is in dayoff today.. need to call them back on friday. the good thing is my case is done and theres no problem on it.. Lorane said that there no need to worry about our kids case.. I hope by the end of this week they will release our visa.. its my 8th week now..

    THAT"S WONDERFUL NEWS! Congratulations!

  14. Thank you everyone. I know this sounded like a "David and Goliath" case. Yeah, what can I do... They have the power, I don't. Im the one who needs something from them. But yes, Nick. You are right. I may have a case but I see myself as the loser in the end. It's not yet time to strike. I should let it go... for now.

About the TNT thing, the sad part was she did not look at any of my supporting documents. All I asked from her was to look at it. The documents I had were given by her own country, the US. She didn't realize the many times I went to her country and spent my hard earned money there... just because she thinks all Filipinas are dying to get to the US to get "rich". Ha!

Putting myself in her shoes, what I would do was ask the petitioner to hold the child while I interview the petitioner. Instead, what the consul did was yell a big "No! Shut up!" when I asked if my fiancee can hold my son so I can focus. It felt like we were trapped inside and we were her hostages. My point is, this consul is probably not a mother. Cuz if she is... she would have known better to deal with a mother like me.

  15. If you were treated harshly during the interview, who do you complain to? Especially if there was a three year old child involved.

Things have been piling up in my head. I thought my issues are all about the visa wait. But then I realized my real issues are about my interview at US EMbassy Manila. I still can't get over it. I was traumatized and I really felt so sorry for my son. The fact remains that we were not treated right.

Guys, I need your opinion regarding this matter
