Questions about form Ds11
new68 replied to new68's topic in Passports, etc. - What to do now that you are a US citizen
Thank you. The check I have shows my and my husband's name and address in the front because we have a joint account. Will that be an issue? Should I wait to enter the amount till the appointment since it can vary? -
Questions about form Ds11

Anyone??? Anyone who recently completed ds11 -
I used the online form filer provided by state.gov. Under "have you used any other names "it had two separate boxes for "first name" and "last name" online but when I printed it out it just came out as one. Like if my maiden name is Jane Doe... And after marriage is Jane Smith. Do I put Jane Doe in other names used or just doe since Jane has remained the same. The form filer form makes a distinction but the paper form I printed out with the bar code doesn't? Does it really matter either way? 2. The check I will be using has my and my husband's name since we have a joint account, is that an issue? 3.for parents place of birth, we just add the city and country if there both aren't us citizens? 4.in the instructions it says to have applicant's full name and dob printed on the front of the check? What exactly does that mean? Do I need to write my name on the check? Thanks

I work as patient coordinator (general office work, scheduling, receptionist role). But I have given my resignation and will be leaving in 3 weeks. Should I still put this job under occupation? It states to be as descriptive about the job as possible, do you need to describe your job duties in detail or just the title alone would work?

I JUST realized that when you go in to renew or replace state ID/DL they punch a hole in it kinda deeming it "invalidated" and I need to present a valid state ID to apply for my passport application tomorrow

I am in michigan too. I do remember that they staple a temporary one to the old id but wasn't sure if it would be ok for a Passport application because of the clipped corner. Just erring on the side of caution, passport application is more important after all. Thanks everyone for your input. -
So in michigan if are a citizen and go to renew or get a new state id/DL they automatically register you to vote. I am going in to apply for enhanced stated ID using my certificate of naturalization soon and was wondering if I should opt out at the secretary of state (like DMV ) and register myself at a later time or just let them register me to vote at that time. Unsure if there are any downsides to them automatically doing it. Thanks

The post office near me had less than good reviews so I didn't feel comfortable applying there(having to hand in original certificate of naturalization).so I made an appointment at a public library 30 mins from my town which offers that facility. Any cons of submitting the application at a public library instead of a post office? Does it delay the process? Anyone with personal experience in michigan? Thanks.

Was asked to answer a few questions and it said to wait 10 days after becoming a new citizen to update the status in their system. Is that true to everyone's experience? Should I wait 10 days to update it? Also it is recommended to wait 10 days to apply for an enhanced state ID/DL too? Unsure if it takes them time to update these things.

I am planning to get passport card too when I apply for passport. Just wanted to see if I can get enhanced state id/DL before that by just showing my certificate of naturalization. They don't keep the original certificate, do they? I know it's a silly question but since I'm required to send in the original for my passport application I wanted to be sure.

Just saw online that you can get enhanced state id/driver license that could serve as proof of citizenship and good for land crossing. Has anyone gotten that in michigan? Any pros or cons? Do I just need to show the certificate of naturalization to do it? I'm just trying to figure out what order to do stuff in since once you apply for passport you don't have the original certificate of naturalization until they process it. Would like to update things that can be done just by showing the certificate before I sent in the passport application. Thank you.

Planning to do the following: 1.apply for passport at local post office 2.update status with Social security 3.update status at Secretary of state (it's like dmv that issues driver license and state Id) 4.anything I'm missing? Any additional tips, tricks or resources? Thanks everyone for all the help.

Oath ceremony upcoming in uscis field office located in Troy Mi. When I googled the address it came up as "USCIS Detroit Field Office". Should I put troy mi as the city I completed the questionnaire in or detroit mi. My understanding is Troy mi is correct and I'm probably just overthinking haha. Anyone who has completed oath ceremony in thr same location? Thanks
-
Also when exactly does it need to be signed. Can I complete it and sign it the morning of oath or does it need to be signed in front of a uscis officer? What format of Date to use... for example would july 11 2025 be ok or does it need to be 07/11/25. Apologies if some of the questions seem silly or overthinking, just want everything to be correct. Thanks

We are ok with him waiting him outside. Just wasn't sure if they have a waiting room or something for spouse's or something since I saw that mentioned in some other people's posts. -

Did your spouse wait in the waiting room or something or were they not allowed in at all? Thanks. -

I checked the letter but it doesn't mention if I need to arrive 30 mins early or anything. Just states the appointment time i.e 1pm. -
Oath ceremony scheduled in Troy Mi. The appointment letter mentions "No guests ". Can my husband come In at the uscis location at all or should he wait in the car? 2. How early to arrive before the scheduled oath ceremony? Like its scheduled for 1pm,should I come in at 12pm,11am or earlier? 3. When exactly are you supposed to complete the n445 questionnaire (does it need to be done in front of the uscis officer or can you complete it before arriving to the office)? And when to sign it. ....Anyone who had oath ceremony at this location, can you please share your experience. Thanks.
