Let's all dance the happy dance!!!

Today was my turn to dance, but soon it will be YOUR turn!

we had a nice interview. San Jose, California. We arrived and the place was very quiet, not many other couples waiting for interviews.

We went through the metal detector, and I had forgotten to take my MP3player out of my purse, I didnt want any troubles so my hubby went back to the car and left my whole purse in the car. I only needed the passport anyways. We only waited 10 minutes. Our interviewer was a lady, very polite, very respectful, very calm. First thing, she swore us in. Then she pulled out our big file with all the paperwork we had sent in November.

She went through each form, very carefully, asking us to verify certain things:Your Full Name? 'What is your mother's name?' 'What is your father's name?' Your birthdate? etc

How did you two meet? (she took notes on this one, but did not have any problems with our story)

She asked to see pictures of our wedding (we had civil ceremony). I showed her all the pictures and I told her she could keep whichever she wanted. She asked us to point out our family members to her. She kept 3 photos, showing our family at the ceremony. She also took out some of the pictures we had sent in with our I-485 back in november, and asked us to point out who was who in some of them.

She asked about supporting evidence, and as she asked, I showed her the originals and gave her copies. She said 'Oh I can see you are very organized' I had a huge File Folder with 19 pockets, everything clearly labeled, and I had copies of everything. She took a copy of my husband's passport too (I had made a Full Copy, Every Page in the passport, she seemed to like that) She asked for my husband's current pay stubs, we gave them to her. She asked for his W-2, and his last one had come in the day before, so we showed her the original and gave her a copy.

She then asked us the usual: Have you commited any crime? NO! Have you commited any fraud? NO! Have you ever been arrested? NO! etc

it was over quite quickly, and I asked her 'so what do you think?'

'Everything looks fine to me, you should get the approval soon in the mail'

So let's do the dance! :dance:

I was sooo nervous... My hands were cold, I had a horrible headache (stress)

But it did not seem to me that she had any doubts or any questions or any suspicions

It seemed to me that it was all very straightforward, mainly going over the forms we had already submitted and asking for the documentation they ask for on the Notice for Initial Interview.

Oh I can only wish and hope that everyone here will have such a relaxed interview, with a nice officer like she was.

Now to wait for the mail! (She did not offer the stamp in my passport, and I was so happy to hear that everything looked good to her, that I forgot to ask!) but I believe the card 'trumps' the stamp?

I work for SUNY and put my wife into classes before she got green-card.

Did she already have her EAD though? I don't have mine yet.

At the time EAD, AP, were ala carte, that is each had a separate fee, we simply filed for AOS to save $$$ did not bother with EAD.

EAD is NOT a requirement to apply for school.

Hi all, i am aware that EAD processing time is normally 3 months, but i don't know what happened to my application. I filed 1-485(permanent residence), i-765(ead) and for my AP last october 3 (received date) but until now i never receive my EAD yet which i badly need so i can start hunting for a job. I had my biometrics appointment last january 14..and it was approved. What should i do next? enlighten me..Thanks

I am wondering if I am legally allowed to go to school while awaiting my approval of EAD and AOS. I've just spoken with a USCIS officer and he checked twice to make sure that it is okay, but I am looking to see if anyone else out there has heard otherwise, or if you have gone to school with your status pending and still been okay?

Hoping for a solid answer, but anything will help!

I just got off the phone with a USCIS officer and he double checked and told me that for me, after having legally come to the US on a K-1 Visa and awaiting my approval of I-485 and I-765 I am allowed to go to school as long as the school will accept me.

Im so happy. I just did my biometrics this morning. And now I received an email from cris. CARD PRODUCTION ORDERED! Yepee!!!

Can anyone please tell me how to know if my case was "touched" online. I keep seeing that in peoples' timelines and I cant see that online on uscis page.Thanks

When you look up your case on the USCIS website, look under the Last Updated section. If the date changes on there from a previous day to a new day then you know your case has been touched!

Okay then,

since there are 3 of you who would like to hear the details of the interview questions, then I am motivated now.

I can't leave you three hanging. The lady in the lobby at the reception desk on the second floor took

our interview letter. We had to go through security on the first floor before we could enter the building. He wanted

our passports or drivers license plus interview letter.

Here are some of the questions:

First she made us take an oath to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

She began by asking for our passports, drivers licenses, evidence of joint accounts, birth certificates with any necessary certified translation, his EAD card, AP documents, etc. She returned his EAD card and AP documents after making copies.

Ahmed got asked his full name and his birth date to start. She asked him our address. Then he was asked what day he entered the USA. She asked if he had traveled outside of the US yet on the Advanced Parole.

I got into one of the coughing fits from a cold and had to leave to the restroom crying. By the time

I came back, he had been asked more questions, like was he a terrorist or plan on being a terrorist. Later, he told me that she asked me some of the same questions once I returned from the bathroom as he was asked. I guess

to see if we were both telling the truth. After just one minute, I started another coughing fit and had to leave. I couldn't believe it!! Each time I had to leave a locked door to make it the water fountain and restroom. Then, I returned again and was able to make it through the rest of the 40 minute interview without another coughing fit. She asked us how we

met and when did I go to Egypt for the first time. She asked when Ahmed proposed to me. She asked us the date of our wedding and who were the people that attended, their exact names. She asked where the reception was afterwards.

She also asked where we got married. She asked us if Ahmed's parents knew we got married and had I met

his parents, which I haven't. Then, she wanted to know why. She wanted to know if Ahmed had met my parents

and when and how that went.

She wanted to know how we handled our age difference even though she felt it was not a problem.

She wanted to know if Ahmed was working and where, also what his job was exactly.

She ended up being from my home town and we connected on that level, discussing the difference between

California and the South.

She wanted to know if Ahmed was planning on going back to Egypt and when.

She then asked for our two picture albums and asked if she could keep some of the pictures. She took six. Three of before our marriage which were two with me in a hijab and one of us before the Sakarrah step pyramid, one of Ahmed with my family, one

of everyone at our wedding party, and one of our wedding. She also asked if she could keep the evidence of

all our joint documents, like bank account,cell phone bill, power bill, trash bill, credit card bill, comcast bill, etc.

She asked how we handled being from different religions.

Then, she left the room for a while. When she came back, she handed us the approval letter and said you are approved.

She told Ahmed to take good care of me, and that she and I were sisters, both being from the South.

I told her that I would shake her hand if I wasn't sick with this cold and she said that's okay, that she didn't want my "koodies".

She was super nice and made us feel totally comfortable, even though we were very nervous.

We just told the truth about everything and tried to not tell too many details, just short and sweet. I was afraid

to talk too much anyway because of my throat and getting another coughing fit.

She did not stamp his passport, just removed the I-94 card.

If I think of anything else, then I will come back and add it. Hope this helps others in their interviews in the next

2 months. It was helpful reading other people's posts of their interviews and helped prepare us for ours.

I forgot to add that we also gave her our car insurance papers with both of us as operators.

Also, I read a post today with people speculating as to why some get interviewed and maybe our application

wasn't as complete as others who don't get interviewed. We got no RFE's and didn't have a lawyer and felt the application was very complete.

I really think it is random as to who gets an interview and who doesn't, unless it was our age difference?

Anyway, who can predict what they are thinking. One can speculate all day. It's difficult to ascertain.

I got my bio appointment for 1/29/09, for both I485 and I765.

Congrats, finally!

Currently I am waiting for my AOS to be approved. Now that it's 2009 and tax time, am I allowed to file my taxes to get my tax return from Canada, even though I don't live there anymore, and even though I'm applying for my AOS? Does anyone know?
