  1. Check cashed 1st December and received all NOAs today, dated 28 November.

    - Martin

You got me all excited for nothing! :(

I thought I'd get mine today too since our check went through on the 1st as well. Maybe tomorrow...

So frustrating see everyone else getting their NOAs before us. Just gotta be patient.

You're both making me nervous now! They received our application on the 24th but still haven't cashed our check yet...

  2. After a very long wait time, we have finally received the letter with the date for my husband's AOS interview. Problem is, he will be out of the country. He has already booked a ticket to travel back to Peru from January 8-February 19 to visit his son, and the interview is scheduled for January 16. I tried calling the Customer Service number on the letter, but I spent 20 maddening minutes getting sent from one recorded message to another. No matter what I did, I couldn't get a human being on the phone, even though the recording says the line is staffed with representatives Monday-Friday (yes, I tried pressing zero). We have a local office here in Denver, but I can't locate a phone number. Anyone have any ideas?

When did you try calling? Maybe they are on Thanksgiving holidays?

  3. Canadian Citizenship is independent of US citizenship. So getting US Citizenship will never invalidate Canadian citizenship at all and you will always have both. Other countries like Peru, Germany and India on the other hand will require you to chose one over the other. Canada does not...

I thought the US makes you give up your other citizenship though when you become a US citizen?

  4. Is it possible throughout this process to keep my Canadian citizenship and then also obtain US citizenship? Therefore being a dual citizen? I've searched the forums and can't find anything on it.

  5. From my understanding I'm not allowed to go to school (for US upgrading courses in Dental Hygiene) until I am also allowed to work with my EAD, is that correct? I will have to wait to take any schooling until I have an EAD?

I guess, EAD document won't be enough documents in order to make you study in the states when your adjusting your status. If you want to cpntinue your education wait for your green card. Unless you were under student visa.

Once you get your EAD, you can apply for ssc right? Isn't a ssn enough to enroll in school? That's what I've always understood.

I already have my SSN-which of course says "not valid for employment" on it.

  6. USCIS Website says:

Although USCIS does not charge a fee for this form, the Department of State does charge a fee of $70 when the Affidavit of Support is reviewed domestically. This does not apply when the Affidavit of Support is filed abroad.

Do I need to include this in my AOS Fee to now make it $1080? Or will they charge/bill me seperately for it?

Sending my papers in tomorrow finally!

  7. My K-1 Fiancee Visa expires on Nov 25th. We were married on Sept. 4th within the 90 days of our Visa. Do we have to file for AOS before our Visa expires? (we're nearly finished the paperwork...waiting on the Affadavit of Support, GRrr!) Or is it fine if it gets in after the 25th, considering the only requirement of the Visa is to marry the said Fiance within 90 days?

I hope someone has a good answer as time is running out quickly!

  8. DS3025 cannot be enough. I was told to send I-693, too. This is the form that you need to attach. That needs to be completed by a USCIS doctor. If you met all the required vaccinations, you can simply find a doctor through USCIS website. Some people could get away with only DS3025. But, you are more likely to get RFE.

When I did POE, the IO was really strict about this medical form. He reminded me to complete with civil surgeon. And it depends on the age. From 2007, they added some new vaccines. I had to take TDAP and HPV.

How expensive was it to have the Civil Surgeon fill out your paperwork? A lot?

  9. This instruction states:

    B. Based on admission as the K-1 Fiancee of a US citizen and subsequent marriage to that citizen.

Attach a copy of the fiancee petition approval (NOA2?) notice, a copy of your marriage certificate, and your Form I-94.

The first two state that they require copies, the I-94 does not. Does that mean that I take it out of my passport and send it in with the package?

  10. Hello All,

I am in the US now on a K-1 Visa and have married my husband-Woohoo! Now, while filling out my i-485 it says I need to attach a vaccination supplement, what is that? Where do I get it?

How long do I have to apply for the AOS, my Visa expires on Nov 25th,2008, but as I said, we're already married, does that make a difference?

Hope to hear a good answer soon! :)

  11. For K-1 it is ALWAYS (C )(9 ) based on pending I-485, this is the FREE EAD provided for as part of AOS.

(a )(6 ) EAD = TEMP 90 day EAD based on entry date, it costs $340 and since it can take 90 days to get, it tends to always be expired before USCIS can issue it.

Does that mean then that I should apply for the AOS first and wait until I get my NOA before filing for the EAD?

  12. Hello Again,

I've tried searching VJ for this answer but I cannot seem to find it. For question 16 what is my eligibility category?

Is it (a)(6)-Nonimmigrant Fiance(e) of US Citizen- File your EAD application if you are filling within 90 days from the date of entry. This EAD cannot be renewed. Any EAD application other than for a replacement must be based on your pending application for adjustment under ©(9).

I have not filed for my adjustment of status yet as I would like to file for the EAD at the same time. Does this put me into the above category? I think it does, but I'd love to hear some confirmation!

Hope to hear from someone soon! :)

  13. Hey All,

I'm filling out my i-485 and have a few questions.

Is my A# located on my K-1 Visa in my passport, looking something like this? A**-***-***? Or is it perhaps the red fonted number? Sorry to ask a dumb question but I want to get everything right on the first try!

Which number is my "Nonimmigrant Visa Number"-Is this applicable to me? Is that the red number?

Also, I've entered the US now, and we're married, what does that make my status. Resident Alien?

Thanks in advance for your help. :)
