  1. Good morning, I have just entered the US near montreal/Champlain POE, as an new immigrant. I got my i-551 visa stamp/endorsement everything was very fast and smooth in the border crossing. Except that I have my own/everyday usage car, which I was driving, I did ask the border agent if he could process the car since I was importing it. He told me the cargo at that place was closed at that moment so, he could not do it in there. He told me to just go to any airport talk to an immigration agent and they would do it for me. Now basically I have to places to do it, New Jersey or Florida, since I have relatives living in both place and I could easily stay and move to those 2 places. Now, since Jersey is nearer the border I came to NJ and started to try to take care of the car importation, yet, things here are not smooth at all. First of all, the immigration agents at the EWR airport had no clue on what to do, regarding my car, they were kind of nice, yet lost, after more than 1 hour they came up with another address to go in a port near the docks, for me to go there since that was the place where customs handled the car export so they should know about it. Then, I went there to the port, it was again, hard to find, one place sending to another yet to another kind of situation, at the end they ended up giving me a form CBP-7512 for goods importation and told me to fill it up and send it with all the documents I might have to the email address they had given me(email from cbp.dhs.gov) and wait for a reply which could take days, so I have done it a week ago and no reply whatsoever. Now I am wondering if somebody has done a car importation not at the border crossing but either in NJ or in FL who could tell me exactly which steps they followed, documents they did present, and which town they did it, that could really help me. thank you so very much,
  2. One last question to you my friend, do you know if I need the cards to open a company ( in order to work not being an employee of the canadian company, but a consultant instead)? thanks again
  3. Thanks for your reply, I really appreciate it, so, it means, if I understood correctly, that I could continue working for the same canadian company without interruption, as a regular canadian employee, per say, then in 2024, at the tax time I have to have a social to declare it to the US gov. right? And regarding the option to not be an employee but a consultant for the company, is that legal? since I guess normally I would need to open a company in the US, my question is could i work from day one, then open the company only later? would that be legal, or I should avoid that altogether while I do not have physically received the cards? thanks again
  4. I currently work for a company in Canada, this company let me work for them remotely. Now I just got my immigration visa approved. So, once I move to the US/validate my immigrant visa/go in through the POE, I know I will have to wait for my GCCard and for my SSCard. Now, basically the question is: is there anyway for me to legally continue to work for this company while still waiting for the GC/SSN? if there is a way, then how would it be, because I think I cannot work as a regular PR Holder since I still do not have received the cards, right? So, should I just continue to work as a canadian similar as if I had not moved, but changing my address to the US one ofcourse(this is the option I, at first thought it should be and then I would declare income tax on both side of the border)? or should I open a company to receive the payment and work as a consultant( this is what my company thinks I should do)? But would i be able to open a company before getting the SSN/GC? if not then I guess I could not just work, without a company that would be illegal, right? Any reply would be appreciated. thanks
  5. Hello there, I know several people have posted situations where their car misses the tpms and/or some other things in order to be imported and that is helpful. Yet, I was wondering if anybody had an easy time importing their vehicle from Canada to the USA, meaning just got the compliance letter, it did not have to install anything extra and everything went smooth importing the vehicle. If anybody had such a case(either yourself or somebody you know please let us know), could you let us know the branch/model and year of the vehicle? and how about getting the compliance letter was it fast? easy, like how long it took between requesting the letter and actually get the letter? you had to pay for it? Maybe knowing which car would give us an easy time, maybe we could exchange our car in the car dealer. Please it will be very helpful to us, Thanks and have a lovely day,
  6. I have this immigrant visa, so I will be doing my first entry on it ( "validating it"), so I plan to drive my own canadian kia rio, to the POE. I have already requested the compliance letter from the kia from Canada. They are still processing it. I have read here in visajourney some cases that the certificate of compliance was accepted others that was not accepted and so on. So, my questions are: if when I arrive to the border/POE, the documents are not accepted ( not enough or for whatever else reason) would I still be able to continue my journey and enter the US or I would be refused entry altogether? If I am allowed to continue journey what should I do next, could I try to fix it from the US or the only option would be to come back to Canada and sell it? What documents exactly do I need to import my car, the certificate of compliance, plus any other document or form? if so, where do I obtain them? thank you so much for your help,
  7. Hi there, how did you finally dealt with it? What did they accept or not at the end? thank you so much!
  8. Review Topic: FB-1 I have an interview coming for FB-1 in Montreal. My questions are: 1- Which documents are necessary, only the ones listed in the pre-interview checklist or some other documents are needed good to have to? (ps. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Supplements/Supplements_by_Post/MTL-Montreal.html#pre_interview_checklist) 2- How many documents can you bring? I read you can bring a folder of documents, like how fat this folder can be? is there a max that can be brought in? somebody measuring it? I am planning on bringing a really fat A4/letter size folder full of documents, should that be ok? 3-Should I bring original documents or certified documents from mother(sponsor) or should i just bring simple copies? thank you so much for your help
