Any update about your interview time. Do you have any idea how long it takes between DQ and the interview email?

We got the actual email with the interview time on 9/28 (DQ was 9/9). The initial interview date we received was for 11/28, however that was too late for us because my wife had been staying with me in the US on ESTA since 8/24 when my expat assignment in Japan finished and we left Japan together. The Tokyo Embassy does have a form online to request a change to the interview date - we explained the situation in detail and they gave us 10/19 as the earliest date they could.

I would note that for most people less than 3 weeks between the interview letter and the actual date might be too tight because you will also need to schedule the medical check and possibly receive additional vaccinations. For us this was not an issue as my wife completed the medical appointment back in July (prior to DQ) because we did not want any delay whatsoever.

My understanding is that Japan does not have an interview backlog correct?

FYI we just got our interview date yesterday for 11/28 which is okay, but honestly a little later than we were hoping for.

I know it probably won't work, but I contacted the embassy asking for an earlier date. Fingers crossed...

    Hello!!!

I am K1 visa, but they contacted me twice via email only ^_^ first time they requested to send them via email scans of some documents, then in couple days they sent me a second email requesting to send them more documents via post ^_^ but as I said above I’m k1 visa
i have heard that some time ago they would send a Package 3 via post but now I guess they do all via email :)

You still have around 2 months so I think NVC should be able to send your documents to the consulate in time ^_^
But if NVC doesn’t send your documents to Tokyo consulate by beginning of August,
you could send an email to the consulate and explain your situation ^_^

That's very good to know, thank you so much!

  4. Hello everyone,

My wife's CR1 case is now at the NVC and we are currently waiting for our AOS/IV fee payment to process.

One big question I have is whether the embassy will contact us by email or mail (or both)? Our apartment lease is scheduled to end in August which depending on our luck could be right around the time we are DQ. I'm worried about the possibility of missing mail from the embassy while we are in the process of changing addresses.

I have been searching through this thread, but I couldn't find an answer to this.
