Can someone who entered the US illegally by crossing the U.S. border and have remained in the U.S. for over a few decades apply for a green card or citizenship, being inside the U.S.?

I have a friend whose parents entered the U.S. illegally more than a few decades ago. They have never left the U.S. ever since.

She told me that their parents are thinking to pay more than $20,000 for an attorney they found, who claims that they can still apply for a green card and get the legal residence here in the U.S. without having to leave this country.

If I am not mistaken, once they leave this country, they will get a 10-year entry ban because they have illegally stayed in the U.S. for more than 180 days.

Is what the attorney is saying even true?

Since I am not a professional, I don't know if that's legit or scam, but I am close to the parents too and I don't want them to pay so much money if that's a scam.

Does anyone know if that's even possible, and if so, what kind of processes do they have to take?

Pls google search about your  case, i heard in the news recently its something like $5,500 fine for immigration cases like you. APPLY for PR & pay the fine. Just keep on searching the rights answers. 20k is too much its a scam.

It may be more than a year since you started the process, but note that (1) embassies were pretty much shut down for 3-4 months from March and have been operating at reduced capacity since, and (2) parent IR5 visas were among the ones banned by Trump, from April 2020 until Biden lifted it in March this year.  So there is a massive backlog of cases both from Covid and those that were DQ throughout most of last year /early this year that could not interview. It’s entirely likely that a case that DQ’d end of April this year is very far down the queue, unfortunately.

Its very sad that the embassies let people wait for a long time & is very frustrating. My 2 kids has been DQ'd since Aug2020 & No interview yet, NVC just keep on sending the same messgs that my benificiaries is awaiting i terview in the local embassy....i recieved maybe 6x already telling 60 days/120 days bla bla.

It is irrelevant for them to blame the pandemic causes delays since covid is almost over & back to new normal & how come they issues many visas for businesses & student V based on the monthly visa issuance DATA.

  3. F11 benificiary, 2 yrs of waiting for interview & still counting & how long more to wait, it seems endless.

Its already irrelevant to blame this Virus Pandemic since the Philippines nowadays has a low risk of covid & almost back to new normal & yet nvc keep on sending the same messgs.

While they're processing full operations on business & student visas.

Its exhausting to keep on waiting.
