When were the parents DQ'ed? Just trying to get a sense of how cases are moving at Accra.

Wife's parents can go get a certified copy from births and deaths in Accra. No issue at all. You can even get it on the same day depending who you to talk to there.

In general, for difficult US consulates like Accra, you want to go extra prepared so always go with the docs requested even if you think they might not need it.

Mother was DQ'ed the end of Oct. 2020.  Father was DQ'ed mid-Jan 2021.  I assume they pulled the father in with the mother so that they could interview together.

Attorney told us it would be cheaper to send the birth certificate from U.S. than to try to get another certified copy.  According to him "I understand there are shortage of paper to print new birth certificates, and obtaining a new one might cost a fortune."

So I guess we will look at the best way to ship it.

Was your wife born in Ghana?  If so, are parents not allowed to get a certified copy of their adult children's certificate from the Registrar of Births and Deaths?

Yes my wife was born in Ghana.  I asked the attorney the same question:  Can they get another certified copy there in Ghana?  But maybe that is more work than just mailing her copy from the U.S. to Ghana?

  3. Hello.  My wife (a U.S. citizen) is bringing her parents here from Ghana.  They finally have an Interview scheduled on Dec. 19th in Accra.  The attorney that has been helping us with the documents says that they will need to bring the daughter's (my wife's) original birth certificate to the interview.

Is that really true?  If so, we'll need to figure out how to mail it (or UPS) to Ghana prior to the interview.

    Thanks in advance!

  4. Hello.  Since there has been so little information lately regarding interview status in Ghana, I thought I would share my info.

My wife is petitioning for her parents to come to the U.S. under an IR-5 visa.  Her mom was DQ'ed on 10/29/2020.  Her dad was DQ'ed on 1/12/2021 (simply because a different agent processed each application).

Well yesterday (10/20/2022) we finally got the Interview email!  Evidently they combined both applicants together and both are scheduled for an interview on 12/19/2022.

So for those counting, that Interview date is almost 26 months from the DQ date of her mother.

I suspect most people here are concerned about IR1/IR2 visa's, but I suspect the timeline is pretty close to IR5.

    Hope that helps.

Hmm, usually the father being listed on the long form birth certificate is accepted as evidence of paternity. And seeing as a marriage certificate is a required civil document for immigration, it’s not “superfluous” for the mom either. Moreover, the proof of paternity should have been determined at uscis stage before the case got moved to NVC. I think what happened here is that different NVC officers reviewed each file for DQ purposes and for some reason, one accepted the certificate and the other didn’t.  It doesn’t happen often but I have seen reports of similar instances where the same document is accepted in one petition but not another before.

Exact same thing happened with my wife's parents.  Mother's marriage certificate was approved right away but father's was rejected.  I assume it was because different NVC officers reviewed their docs.  We ended up having to upload a slightly different version of the marriage certificate to get the father's accepted.  Net result is that the mother has a DQ date 2.5 months earlier than the father, so I'm assuming they will be interviewing separately.

So, I filed for my mother and the priority date was 6/2020 and DQ by NVC was 04/2021. That means she won't get an interview for another year? Also, I am very new to the process and was wondering if you guys have recommendations for visa people in Ghana. I want to be able to have someone else handle all of this. I feel like I am missing steps and information.

Also, when the embassy sends NVC the appointment approval, how much time do you have between the notification and interview and even approval to come to the states

My wife and I are working with an immigration attorney in Accra to get her parents over here.  I probably could have done it myself but just decided I wanted a little extra help.  PM if you are interested in details.  Of course an attorney can't help with the very long wait times (her Mom was DQ'ed in late Oct. 2020 and we don't expect an interview for another 2 or 3 months).

Good luck...the process definitely takes patience :)

@bunky623I'm not an expert though but ones they were not approved at the same time I believe the woman will go for her interview b4 the man does,  I've seen such situation b4...

And with the interview date Chale no one knows oooo...

Thanks Zain1244!  That's actually a bit surprising to me but I certainly believe it is possible.  The only part that might make that a little problematic is that my wife's mother only speaks Twi, doesn't speak English.  So if she were to be called for the interview by herself, would that pose a problem?

As for guessing the interview date I'm just making the assumption that if they are working on late July 2020 DQ's right now, and her mother is late Oct, that is a 3 month difference.  So if they are scheduling May 2022 interviews now, maybe she'd get one in Aug/Sept 2022?  But of course that is based on many assumptions....

July 2020 dq will start interviews from May 2022 thanks

Hello.  My wife's mother was DQ'ed in late Oct 2020 so I'm hoping that they might get an interview sometime in Aug or Sept of this year??  But one thing I'm concerned about is her father was not DQ'ed until early Jan. 2021.  Even though both were filed together with the same paperwork, for some reason they approved the mother right away.  Then they found some issue with the marriage certificate with the father (even though it was the same document that was approved for the mother) and we had to upload a new copy.  So there is a 2.5 month gap between the DQ dates between mother and father....How do you think this will be handled?  Will they pull the father up to the same interview as the mother or will they push the mother out to the date of the father?

I'm assuming they will want to interview them together...but I'm not expert here.

    Any thoughts/feedback would be appreciated!
