  2. I would have him call again. I called a few days after our visa was approved and the NVC had it. Then I called 3 days after that and the NVC said they mailed it to Manila. I waited a week and called the Embassy and got a pin number and scheduled my fiancee's interview. The person on the phone at the Embassy then asked for my fiancee's email address and emailed her with the interview date I set and case number.

  3. There are many that might argue that Davao is the safest city in the Philippines. The mayor there is a real ballbuster. I don't think many will argue that it is the cleanest and most organized of the bigger cites.

Davao is high on my list of places I'm considering when I retire.

Yes the mayor is a ballbuster. Any many know he is really the one to control the DDS. Davao city is very nice and much cleaner.

  4. I posted this info just to make everyone aware thats all. I have been to the Philippines many time and love the country. I purchased my first condo there last year and plan on getting 2 more over the next 2 years. I will retire in the Philippines in about 5 years after my fiancee is a US citizen. Davao City is a great city and I loved the place when I was there. The Philippine Eagle was very nice to see and I really loved Jacksridge. The DDS will take care of most the bad people, Filipino's from davao know what im talking about. I hope to see Boracay and Cebu someday. Take care and always be safe everyone. Goodluck

That's why my handsome feels he is safe here  . He and i plan on retiring here. . . .hopefully, if our knees will still be strong after 10 years, strolling hand in hand on the white sands of our beach resort, or gazing into each others eyes under the lovers' moon :P

I agree, I love Paradise Island. From the short boat ride over looking down to see the fish swiming to the white beach. Billards on the beach or just sitting on the beach in a chair. I loved the place

  5. 500.00 US dollars is way to much. I would bring 100.00 orless. You will have lots of food to eat on the plane and can ask for drinks anytime you want. Everytime I have been to the Philippines the most I have spent is maybe 20.00 or less each way. Just need money for drink and food if you have a long wait between flights. You have to think if you have 500.00 US dollars then that something you have to think about when you are trying to sleep or maybe lose it someplace. I will agree to make sure you have smaller bills and not 50 or 100 bills. try to have 5 or 10 or even 20 dollar bills. No need to bring Philippine pesos because most other countries take US dollars and give US dollars back.

  7. Nothing unusual. When I lived in the Philippines, I was registered with the USEM and would receive e-mail advisories at least once a month.

You have more of a chance of being killed by a Jeepney or crazy taxi driver in Manila than being kidnapped in the south.

In my personal opinion, it is much wiser to take precautions than being sorry. I am not a risk taker when it comes to the safety of my loved ones life. I have experienced running to and fro with my family and the whole barangay during the Abu Sayaff attack in the town of Ipil in 1995. We were not actually living on the said town, but the place where we lived is a mountainous area where Abu Sayaff members fled after the attack. It was scary and the military plane bombings added the fear. It's funny, I am back to this memory that happened 13 years ago :D

Also, the US government is just doing their duty to safeguard their citizens by warning them through travel advisories. Now, it's still up to the person whether he/she will take the advisory or not.

I agree its always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your loved ones.

  8. I agree, I was in Davao City in 2003 and was only there for 2 days and someone set off a bomb in the airport and killed lots of people. I never went back there. I have been to the Philippines many times since then but usually stay in Makati area now. Just be smart everyone and dont go places without lots of people and dont go outside the cities.

  9. FYI, Just got this from Yahoo News. Be safe when you are in the Philippines. I have been there many times and never had problems. I would make sure not to go outside the city.

MANILA, Philippines - The U.S. Embassy warned its citizens Tuesday that "extremist elements" planned to kidnap Americans and other foreigners in a southern Philippine city where U.S. counterterrorism troops have been deployed.

Extremist elements may be planning to kidnap Americans or other foreigners at hotels or other public places in the Zamboanga city area," it said in an e-mail.U.S. Embassy spokeswoman Rebecca Thompson said she was unaware of specific details of the threat.

A Philippine security official said authorities received intelligence last month that the Abu Sayyaf — a small but violent al-Qaida-linked group — planned to kidnap wealthy Filipino Chinese traders, not Americans, in the south to raise money for operations.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to reporters.

Zamboanga Mayor Celso Lobregat said police told him there was no kidnapping plot specifically directed at Americans in Zamboanga, about 530 miles south of Manila."This is really very disappointing," Lobregat told The Associated Press by telephone. "Zamboanga is a very peaceful city."

U.S. counterterrorism troops have been based in recent years in Zamboanga and on nearby Jolo island, where they provide training to Filipino troops battling the Abu Sayyaf and Indonesian militants. Abu Sayyaf guerrillas have been blamed for bombings, kidnappings and beheadings, but their attacks have considerably eased in recent years.U.S.-backed offensives against the militants, arrests and surrenders have reduced the Abu Sayyaf's strength to about 300 armed fighters from more than 1,000 in 2000, according to the military.

  10. You can check these budget hotels also:

    Eurotel

    Hostel 1632

    UCCP Shalom Center

Wherever you chose to stay pls do share your review of the place after. Thank you very much and best of luck to you.

    God speed.

I would stay at EUROTEL. I was just in Manila and Makati last month and went to Robinson Mall and EUROTEL is just accross the street. It looks like a great place and I was actually thinking about staying there next time. Its in front of the new part of Robinson Mall and a perfect location

  11. I would call the NVC and get your NVC case number. Wait about a week after the NVC sends it to the embassy then call and get your pin to schedule your interview. The pin can be used 3 times before having to get another pin. I had to use our pin 2 times already because the first interview date I chose wansnt good for my fiancee. When the interview was scheduled they asked for my fiancee's email address and emailed her the interview info and number. She printed this to take to the interview and medical incase its needed. I was told when I called the embassy they dont mail the packet anymore so dont wait for it.

  12. You welcome debears and timcass_12. I know how it is to worry about the process. We have our interview March 29th at 7:30am. My fiancee and I also agree it was better for me to call and pay 18.00. I had to call a 2nd time and change the interview date from March 23 to march 29th because I chose a day that wasnt good for my fiancee. Let me know what interview date you get ok. Take care and goodluck to everyone.

  13. You just need to call the NVC and get your MNL case number. It should only take a few days to arrive at the Embassy. you do not need to wait for anything to schedule your interview after you get your MNL case number. The number to call from the US is 888 877 9888. Yes you do have to pay 18.00 US dollars for a pin that you can use to call the Embassy 3 times.

  14. Wait about a week then call 1-888-877-9888 from the US and pay 18.00 for a pin that can be used to call the Embassy and schedule your interview. You dont have to wait for any letters to schedule your interview if you have your NVC MNL case number. This pin can be used to call the Embassy 3 times before having to get another pin. If you need to call from the Philippines then call 909 101 7878 from a PLDT phone.

One more thing to add. When you schedule your interview the Embassy will ask you your fiancee's email address and they will email her a copy of the interview schedule and approval number. She can print this for the medical

  16. My fiance stayed at the Cherry Blossoms in early March...1550 pesos a night. We originally planned for her to stay there for her medical then stay at Bayview Park (across from Embassy) for her interivew. She called and said she preferred to stay at CB for the entire time since there was the mall and other amenities around it. Hope this helps.

Bayview would be a good choice the night before the interview because its just accross the street from the Embassy, but I would stay at Cherry Blossoms for most of her stay because its so close to the mall so she will have someplace to eat and hang out. I did stay at Lotus Garden in 2003 and it was ok. I now stay in Makati in a condo next to Greenbelt mall when I go. If anyone wants a good contact for nice condos let me know. I can give you my contacts email address. The rate is only 2000 pesos a night for a new and secure place about 1 block from Greenbelt mall
