  1. I think it's something most of us have to go through.

My wife (USC) is only working part time (Not by choice) and I only just got my EAD approved. We live in an apartment and it is very stressful to try to find rent and we get no help from her family. Right now I don't care what job I get i'll just be happy to bring in some money.

I'd give it some time as you have only been there 2 months. Times like this either make or break you.

Good Luck and if things get real bad there is always Ramen Noodles!!!

  2. I flew to Minnesota in July of 2007 for a month, then in October 2007 for 3 months, then June 2008 for 3 months, then June 2009 for 3 months.

I always stayed for around 85 days and I had no job to return to as I could not get that long off work. I am 24 (25 tomorrow) but was 22 when I started travelling to the US.

In February 2008 I applied for a B2 tourist visa so I could stay for up to 6 months and was denied because of lack of ties to the UK. I was still allowed to travel on the VWP but had to put on the green slip that I had been denied a visa so the last two times I travelled to the US I got taken for further questioning. Still was allowed to enter though.

I was always 100% honest for the reason of my visit.

1st. To meet a girl I met on the internet.

2nd, 3rd. To visit my girlfriend

    4th. To visit my fiancee.

Then my last time entering in October was with my K1 and it was so nice not having to worry about immigration like I had done the last visits.

You have plenty of money, stuff planned and a return ticket. You will be fine.

  3. Hi,

Well the first thing I did was to look over the forms and start to fill them out as much as I could. The I-485 is the main form and the other one is the I-765 (if you want to be able to work). There are many other forms you will need but the guides will help you with that.

You should know your Alien Number and your I-94 number too.

First go and get a marriage licence.

When you have been there for at least 2 weeks go apply for your SSN.

Make sure you have some money saved up as the fee for the AOS is $1010 with biometrics.

Follow the step by step guides on this website and you can't go wrong.

    Good luck

  4. I can very much understand.

I was brought up with fresh bread. I usually would buy local baked bread unsliced so you can make it as thick or thin as you like. My Nana would always have Warbingtons Toastie (the orange one) and her toast is the best.

I sometimes would buy Tesco Irish Soda bread and have it with soup or they also did a Mediterranean bread that was amazing. I have managed to find one ok crunchy bread at Walmart, but it's not the same.

If anybody from the UK is looking for Red Leicester cheese, Costco sell it under a brand called Kerry Gold. Very nice indeed.

They even managed to ruin Cadburys, very thin and not the same as in the UK. Dove is the same as Galaxy if anyone misses that.

Ahh well, I think I am going to start making my own bread as nothing beads home made.

  5. This is a terrible shame to get so far and then have to start all over again.

When I first came over here on my K1 I used to have nightmares that I went home to do something and forgot all about the fact my visa was only valid for one entry. It was awful and I would wake up and be so thankful it was a dream. For this poor person there is no waking up.

Hope they get it sorted out and stay strong if they have to go through the process again.

  6. Just beware of the RFE a lot of people have been getting (including myself) for the I-693.

It asks you to submit a properly completed and signed I-693. Even if you already did. This RFE confuses people as it is not specific. Some just go and get the full medical anyhow, some get their congressmen involved and some like me just submit the vaccination record again. Not sure if my way works yet but fingers crossed.

    Good luck

  7. We filed in December of 08 and were approved in May.

I think you may be out of luck hoping for an NOA2 right now.... unless the timeframes have changed since we filed. Last I saw it was 6 months.

Some do get lucky and get approved very quickly. We have some friends who applied a week before us and were approved in March.

Anyway I hope all goes well for you and you get your NOA2 sooner rather than later.

  8. I had the same RFE and I just got the vaccination supplement done again and in my cover letter stated id had a medical in the UK. I also printed off the instructions were it states I do not need a medical and highlighted the specific part.

They got this yesterday so I have yet to know if it is good enough or if they will just send another RFE.

    I will keep you posted.

  9. Just wondering if there is anything I can do to have my status actually updated. It still says received and to follow the steps on the NOA but I have since had a Biometrics letter and an RFE but nothing has changed on the status checker.

I mean what is the point in having this if they never update it?

Can I call/e-mail anybody who will:

    a) Be able to do something and

    B) Give a ######.

Not had chance to say this yet so

    HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

  10. As you may know from reading topics on this forum a lot of people have received RFE's for their I-693, myself included.

As a K1 fiance holder I had a full medical in the UK in September as part of the process. For this reason I do not need to have another medical exam for the I-693, only the vaccination supplement needs completing by a civil surgeon.

    Section III. Frequently Asked Questions

    2. What if I am a K nonimmigrant visa holder and already had a medical exam overseas?

If you were admitted as a:

    A. K-1 fiancé(e) or a K-2 child of a K-1 fiancé(e), or as a

    B. K-3 spouse of a U.S. citizen or a K-4 child of a K-3 spouse of a U.S. citizen, and

    C. You received a medical examination prior to admission, then-

You are not required to have another medical examination as long as your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, is filed within one year of your overseas medical examination.

You will, however, be required to complete Part 1, Information about you, and submit the vaccination section of Part 2 with your adjustment of status application. A designated civil surgeon must complete the vaccination section and Part 5, the Civil Surgeon's Certification.

    Taken from the I-693 instructions.

So what I was hoping, from other people's experience, after receiving your RFE did you just send another vaccination supplement and if so was everything fine, or did you just give up and go ahead and get the full medical.

Really would like to hear people's experiences on this matter.

  11. Hi everyone.

I am seriously very annoyed today. Went to check the mail and there was an envelope with a lovely yellow letter in it from the USCIS..... RFE!

Ok, so I have been dreading this as I have read everywhere about this whole I-693 business. I read on the forums that people had been getting an RFE for a I-693 when they submitted it fine. Just like I did. I had a medical in the UK in September 2009 and then had my shots done and my records collected and went to a civil surgeon and got my sealed I-693 and sent it along with my AOS documents.

Then low and behold, RFE: Submit a properly completed and signed RFE form I-693.

So I ask, what do I do now. I don't understand what I am supposed to do. I have already submitted it. I have a freaking copy of it.

Also, I got one for status of co-sponsor. Was a scan of his US passport not good enough?

Please help as I am very stressed and not at all in the Christmas spirit.

  12. It would be simple and she has been with me whenever I have driven anywhere but she has been working a lot and works until Monday so she can't take me out to practice manoeuvres.

I will figure it out. I just thought it would be cool to practice while she is working as I have all the time in the world. Ha.

To be honest, I see your MN learners permit as a red-herring. It doesn't replace your UK licence.

You arrived in the US in October 2009 right? And you have a full UK licence? Well just as if you were a tourist on vacation, you can drive here using your UK licence, on your own and without any need to have an MN licenced adult with you. Officially you can only do that for a certain period of time (here in CO it's 6 months, but in other states it seems to be longer), but if you've only been here since October you have months to play with.

The only real concern is insurance. Just make sure your spouse's insurance cover allows any licenced person (including a UK licence holder) to drive her car.

I thought there was some way with my UK licence that I could drive. I think you can do it for 3 months so yeah, arriving in October makes it 3 months in January.

  13. OP?

I have a full UK licence and my wife a full US licence. I don't have a US permit as the lady at the DMV said there was no point as my licence with the yellow slip was good enough.

She said I need to do my test before my K1 runs out or else I would have to show proof of applying for another visa such as an NOA1.

I'm so confused I may call the DMV tomorrow.

  14. Hello everyone.

I am from the UK and have a full UK licence. I have passed my MN drivers ed and have my test booked for the 14th.

Question, can I drive in a car on my own with my UK licence and my yellow slip that shows I have passed the drivers ed?

Or, if not, under what terms can I drive. I live in Minnesota and my wife is 19.

Thanks for your help in this issue.

  15. I lived in North Wales so got a Virgin Train booked early so was cheap. Return was hard to guess though. Stayed in a TraveLodge in Marylebone which was £29 for the night plus I paid £10 extra for late check out (2pm).

Try their website, google Travelodge, you can search by hotel location.

    Good Luck with it all
