  1. When at the interview for the K-1 visa (for my now husband) at the Santiago Embassy I brought my own paperwork (I-134) which only showed that I had made slightly more than the 125% of poverty line. I was nervous, as I had only moved back to the states and found a job part way through the year, meaning that my income wasn't that great before having to file taxes. I was nervous, so I had my parents fill out all the co-sponsorship information and we brought that with. But, never had a problem with any of my own paperwork. My husband was not even asked about it, really, which is surprising with how close it was to the "minimum requirement". So, we never even used the co-sponsorship paperwork.

Hope that eases your mind. Good luck!

  3. Welcome to Visajourney! Feel free to ask questions. There isn't a very large community of Chileans around, but there are some!

My husband got his picture taken in a few different places. If you are looking for a professional place, I know that there is one that is across the street from the ChileExpress that is on El Bosque Norte in El Bosque (the people at ChileExpress were the ones to recommend it to my husband back when they were the ones who accepted B-2 petitions in person). But, he also got them done by a caballero in the local cibercafe who took them with his digital camera and printed them off there. That guy charged about 800 pesos for a few different copies. They worked fine, never had a problem.

Feel free to also PM me with any other questions (or simply to have community). I see that you are also from MN, now in Chile. Apparently we have some things in common :)

Good luck and enjoy the journey

hi Mo_Mati... my name is marta I am from colombia but I am living in santiago, chile right now... we are doing our k1 visa process here because here is where I life... I mean did you sent your paper to the consulete and then they contact you?... or how was?... thank you if help me... and if you can tell me about your interview I will appreciate it too...

    thanks and greetings...

    Marta :star:

    Hola Marta!

It looks like everything is going well for you. It sounds like the embassy has sent you the packet 3, which includes information on the medical exam, the documents that you need for the interview, and the interview date. So, to answer your question, yes, it is normal. Once your papers leave NVC and arrive to the embassy, they will send you the packet of info. Though, from others before us (and in our own experience) this was the part where others (and ourselves) saw some problems. So if you do not see the packet in the mail, give them a call or email to follow up.

I am not sure what you want to know about the interview. Feel free to send me a PM (tambien te puedo escribir en espanol si es mas facil). Overall, our interview experience was very easy and painless. We both agreed that it was pretty anti-climatic, as all the work came in before hand and the actual interview was about 5 minutes long. Nothing unusual.

    Good luck!

  5. EAD arrived in the mail today, so that is awesome. And after all sorts of worrying, everything turned out fine. Even though we did not send three sets of pics/supporting evidence...no problem. And then we had problems with my husband's full name being present on the NOA's...which sme time working out. But, in the end...both EAD and AP have come with complete names. I am so darn happy, cause it really could have been worse. (knock on wood) Now on to SSN

    Good luck everyone!

  6. We have been waiting for EAD which the online status says was sent on Oct 10, but to our surprise the AP came in the mail today. Weird, eh? And what is even weirder is that we can actually see the AP online, and have been seeing that it has been touched repeatedly as of late, but there has been no update to the status. Still says that it is pending. But whatever, we have it in hand....odd.....

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

  7. My wife's I-485 had been transferred to CSC on September 22nd.

    But today, USCIS website says...

Current Status: This case is now pending at the office to which it was transferred.

The I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS was transferred and is now pending standard processing at a USCIS office. You will be notified by mail when a decision is made, or if the office needs something from you. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address. We process cases in the order we receive them. You can use our processing dates to estimate when this case will be done, counting from when USCIS received it. Follow the link below to check processing dates. You can also receive automatic e-mail updates as we process your case. To receive e-mail updates, follow the link below to register.

Does this mean that her case has been transferred to local office?

    Will she get an interview?

We thought that we would go through easy road.

    I guess it's not the case. :(

Looks like you will be going through the interview process at your local office. Good luck

  8. Nothing that new on the visa front for us.

The only "fun" bit of news is that I spent over an hour on the phone with a lady trying to get her to understand that we needed to change by husband's name on the AOS, EAD and AP. The AOS and EAD went alright (although we were told at Biometrics that they had changed those two. Now they are saying it could take up to 45 days). But, changing the AP was the real kicker. The lady couldn't find our case in the system (which coincidently is also the only one we cannot see online). She started telling me about how I needed to pay AP seperately from AOS. I calmly told her about how that is not what the instructions say, and she was insistent that SHE is the immigration officer and that SHE knows how it is. We went around in circles for a while until I finally made it clear that I had a receipt number, have received an NOA1 and told her that the case would have been returned to me at that first stage if we had paid an incorrect amount. That finally quieted her down and her response was "fine, I guess it is irrelevant now....but that is what you should have done". Ok...whatever....

    Now back to more waiting

  9. After getting my husband and I moved. When we applied for the AOS/AP/EAD we also submitted the paperwork to change both the petitioners and the sponsor's address.

The I-865 (Sponsor Change of Address) was received on Aug 6, 2008. Since then I have received 3 NOAs about this change.

The first actually is dated 8/6/08 and is a Receipt Notice (FYI. The receipt number is actually different on this one and starts with LIN). This one states that my address has been updated

The second is dated 8/8/08 and doesn't say much else besides that the petition was received. It does have my correct info on it.

Now the third came today. My husband's AOS was transfered to CSC today, and another letter came stating that my I-865 was also transfered and that it will be processed there.

I guess I didn't know that there was anything else to PROCESS. It is not like they must approve my address change...it is what it is and it is clearly already in the system as our mail is coming to the new address. Anyone have an idea what is going on?? I have gotten no letters like this saying that my husband's notice of change of address was also transfered.

Also...anyone know how to fix the fact that my husband's name is incorrect on all three of his NOA's? How can we update his name?

    Thanks!

  10. So we finally have some good news for this thread!! We just got "the letter" stating that our case was transfered to CSC!! Whoopeee. We also checked online and the AOS is now trackable, but the other two are not. So that is the good news!!

The bad news is that my husband's name appeared incorrectly on the transfer notice letter. At the biometrics appointment, the man said that he was going to submit the docuemnts to change the name. But, the letter that is dated Sept 11 (albeit, only one week after the biometrics apointment) still has only three of his four names listed. Any ideas about who to contact? We know that we will need to contact someone about the AP (as they were not able to change it from the biometrics appointment). THOUGHTS??

    Thanks everyone, and good luck!
