I think you're referring to the Immigrant fee $220 payable directly to the USCIS, you will get instructions on how to pay this once you successfully receive the visa, it will be a piece of paper bundled with your passport. It can be paid anytime after you received the visa, but must be paid so that the USCIS can print and send out your card. Most pay this before the fly into the US.

Yes! This is it. Thank you so much that’s really helpful.

  2. I am slightly confused and wondered if anyone on here could help me?

I have received my interview letter and registered my appointment with the embassy in London using the Immigrant Visa website link. I have also paid the £20 fee to have the courier return docs to my home address.

I was under the impression that there was a further fee to pay (approx $200) for the actual greencard, or some other fee at this point. However I cannot find any info on this or any instructions on the Immigrant Visa login.

Wow! That’s kept very quiet on their front. Well that’s good news for you. I ended up booking one anyway yesterday as I heard they were getting behind and earliest was March 23rd. Can I ask you post when you receive your interview so I have an idea when to expect mine please?

Of course! I will do as soon as I hear. Fingers crossed it’s soon!

Does this run a risk as you need interview letter to attend the medical?
We are about 3 days behind your DQ so I plan to use your timeline for interview estimates? I want to book the medical too but am concerned if the letter doesn’t arrive before then it could cost to cancel?

Hi. I emailed visa medicals today in london to ask if I should reschedule and got the following response:

    Hi Claire<

We can also take an email with your Case No. on. This is to verify the number we put on the forms is correct.

    Kind regards,

    Hi!
If I were you, upload the correct documents under the correct name in additional documents. Do upload or change any documents that are in the required documents section.

I had forgotten to upload my W2 and didn’t realize till 2 months after. When I uploaded in additional documents it didn’t affect my submission date and I was DQ’d on time.

Thank you so much for this. Great advice! I’m going to do this this evening! It’s such a little thing but I’ve been worrying so much about it potentially costing us a huge amount of time.

  6. Hi everyone.

I submitted all our docs online to NVC on 15th Nov. However, I have just come to realise (through double checking my uploads myself) that for my joint sponsor's proof of domicile, I mistakenly uploaded a copy of her passport bio page. Her tax returns and wage slips are also uploaded, but under the 'Federal income tax return' section. We are SO close to our estimated DQ time now and I am kicking myself! Should I upload a second copy of the wage slips and taxes under proof of domicile now? Or wait and see if it gets an RFE. The thought of being put the back on the line at this stage is awful! Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Hey folks

Plenty of these on the forum but here's mine from last week.

Family of 4, booked 28th Dec for 14th Jan.  Concerned about proximity to interview, VM said to contact the embassy and rebook as they needed 10 business days pls 5 days to send it.  My lawyer said to keep both dates and go with it.

Appointment 8.50. Arrived 8.45 went to the window, they said to take a seat until 8.50 then come back. Ok fine. So 5 minutes later, same person, went to the window. Several forms to sign per person. I had docs split per person in the family which worked. They took digital photos there - despite me calling up and asking if they still needed the 4 identical photos brining.  Sit down and wait about an hour.  Then see the Dr, this was all of 10 minutes per person.  The Dr was super nice, put everything at ease.  Review of the questionnaire, chat about what we did, quick check of vision, height, weight tendon reflexes, and abdomen (or, as he told the kids, trying to guess what they had for breakfast!).  Dr was super with the kids and they had a great time.  Dr also said he thought they'd get the medicals over to the embassy in time for us, suggesting it takes them a couple of days if there are no issues.

No urine samples (I think they said it was 12-24 or similar now).

Called for chest xray for adults, takes about 2 minutes.

There is a nurse who checks vaccinations, they had changed the rules end of Dec to add HepA for older kids, which they did there and then for £45.

    Then about another hours wait.

3 hours start to finish... pay and walk away with a certified vaccine file for each of us to keep (not for embassy) for using in the USA for schools, medicals etc.

    Take aways

    • If you are a family then have all your documents split per person - we did, but others did not, which really annoyed the reception staff
    • They didnt need passport photos, they did them on site
    • Take ipads and snacks for kids, there is also water in the waiting room
    • Many of the staff are super nice, there's a few coarse characters

Lots of worry for no reason, doesn't appear they aren't looking to fail anyone unless you have big unmanaged health issues, drug or other addictions etc.

This is super helpful and reassuring. Thank you for taking the time to write it.

  9. Hi all! My family and I are planning to move back to Iowa from the UK next year, as soon as we can visa allowing! (currently with NVC)

I have been doing some research into shipping. We are inclined to sell larger furniture here and buy again in the US (only our beds belong to us, we rent our current home). However, a friend of mine works at a well known shipping company and can offer me 50% off large boxes. So £60 per large box we send, which is obviously a great deal for 2 day shipping. However, when I have sent gifts this way before I have been stung by large fees (not sure if customs or taxes) when the boxes have arrive stateside. Does anyone know if there is a way to avoid this, as I am only going to be sending our used belongings, nothing new.

    Many thanks,

    Claire

Your husband doesn't have to look for jobs just yet. But, he should write a letter outlining all the steps he has taken so far towards his return to the States.

    This link is fairly useful:

https://citizenpath.com/reestablish-us-domicile-filing-form-i-864/#:~:text=If you are a U.S.,make it your permanent home.

Thank you so much, this is super helpful. Some of those steps we cant make until closer to knowing an actual move date. (Such as registering our boys for schools, applying for jobs, signing a lease, registering for utility bills). Hopefully we can convince them that we intend to move by opening a bank account online and writing a letter explaining that we will take those other steps closer to the time.

  11. I am getting super confused with the NVC stage. I'm just not sure what we need to upload and mail in now, and what waits until interview. Feeling so overwhelmed with the whole process currently. My husband (US citizen) and I both live in the UK currently. We will need to establish his intended domicile but he cant apply for jobs etc until we have a more solid date for our move. So confused. If anyone had any tips or helpful info it would be SO appreciated right now. I've just looked over the step by step guide on here but still feeling rather lost.
