NVC clearly states that if you don’t contact them through phone/email in 1 year, they will close your case. Seen various people on Facebook (k1) have their cases closed by the NVC. Some of those people don’t update us for us to know and the one person I’ve seen has had their congressman involved.

As far as USCIS, I believe you’re safe for it to “expire”, but I would caution about the NVC whenever and if, that time comes for you as it has for many late 2019 and early 2020 filers.

Perfect, that makes sense! I have contacted through the online AskNVC form and did get a response they will renew the petition at the interview so I think I'm alright as I did contact them. Thank you!

You're in the queue with about a year's worth of approved petitions waiting on interviews.   All you can do is wait.

    Thank you!

If you have your case number then your file may have already been sent to Montreal. Have you tried to do your DS160 and book an interview?  In Canada the K1 books their own interview.

Last I spoke with the NVC (in January) they said there was nothing further for me to do until the Embassy opens up for more cases to be sent to them. On the NVC tracker it says the file is still at the NVC

Consulate not NVC renews the petition.

    What is your ceac status?

At The NVC! I filled out the AskNVC online form regarding this but haven't gotten a response.

  3. Hi everyone,

I noticed my approval for my I-29f petition will be exipiring in March 2021. I have not yet heard from the NVC regarding the next steps (Though I do have my case number and invoice number as I called them). I have submitted an inquiry on the Ask NVC form online inquiring about how to renew my petition but have not heard back. Does anyone else know how I ca get the petition approval extended? I would hate for it to expire but am unable to move forward as the Montreal Embassy is not taking any more cases at this time.

What is the current wait time for K-1?  Aren’t there significant delays due to COVID?

Hey! Yes, there are delays. Though, I am thinking there are likely delays with anything being processed. However, it is looking like processing is picking up! I would assume the k1 timeline is certainly not as quick as it has been historically, but I have seen movement. From when my petition was received to the approval was about 9 months. That being said, we submitted our petition right before COVID shut the world down so I imagine the initial processing for a new petition with USCIS may be a bit quicker.

I'm at the NVC now. The next step (getting to a consulate) will depend on what your country's rules and regulations are with COVID. Some are processing, some are not and some are processing slowly. Be patient, you'll get there before you know it :)

I have, and ive done tons of research to both however its unrelated to my questions. Doing the cr1 is not an option for us, not only is it longer but we have absolutely no options to visit to get married at all during 2021. We'd be lucky if early 2022 had that option at all too. That seriously increases the duration so it isnt worth it.

    Were doing k1

We looked into both options and stuck with the K1, it made more sense for us even with the wait to work/travel once in the states. I believe you can co-sponsor if your fiancé is rejected as the Sponsor!

Nothing to do at NVC. You can call after 4-5 weeks to get your case number and invoice number. Montreal is moving very slow at the moment. They were making great progress from September-November but since mid Nov, they have not given any new K1 interviews for reasons they’re not saying. They are still claiming to process K1 visas on their website and emails though so I’m hoping they start up again soon. My case was approved in April and just left NVC for MTL on Dec 8th. It arrived 8 days later but since then there’s been nothing.

if anything, I urge you to comment on the consulate’s social media posts and email them asking about K1. That way we keep a little pressure on them and they do something for K1’s soon. The sooner the backlog for the people in front of you clears up the sooner you’ll get an interview.

Thank you so much!! I do have my case number, but I suppose I can’t do anything with it until I hear from Montreal. Thanks for the idea, I’ll follow up with emails for sure.

I am hopeful things get processed soon!
