  1. Just for the bank question---I opened a joint account for my wife at BoA without a problem. I do remember them asking two forms of ID so she gave her national id card, and her passport, and that was it. Of course, we had to show the marriage certificate, but the account was opened. Have you tried a different branch of BoA? Sometimes those bank clerks are like the USCIS clerks---they dont know what they are talking about....

  2. HI members,

last time when i sent my AOS package i had shortage of 2 photos but thank god they they finally accepted.on march 5th i sent my AOS package and on march 14th i received letter and says that everything is fine and soon they will send me another letter which will be appointment letter of biometric.but till now i didn't received it .can any body tell me when i will get it ? and after finger print when i will get my EAD?????????????

I don't think there is a bullet proof answer to your question. When I was trying to find those times, I looked at recent VJ members that got their biometrics done, then EAD; it seemed that the average from getting that first letter telling you that you will soon receive a biometrics appointment was about 6 days; however some members received the appointment in 10-30 days and sometimes more; so is hard to say....

And the same thing goes with the EAD....if you look at our time line, it took 30 something days from the day that we sent our aos to receive the EAD; however, most people take from 60-90 days and even more....

  3. Nothing wrong with the plan. Had a family member do that before---for family emergencies had to leave the country while waiting for green card; then she just got the card fedexed to her and not a problem; if you really want to be paranoid like I'm, just make sure you scan the green card front and back, and email that along in case the card gets lost; then your wife would go to her embassy and request some travel document; however, makes it easier if you got copies of the green card to hand out to the embassy people. B)

  4. We had exactly the same problem....

I called on a monday, and actually spoke to somebody; they told me they would call me in the afternoon or next day

    They didnt call.

Wednesday my wife called left a message.

    There was no return call.

Thursday I called again in the morning, left a message.

They called me that thursday afternoon.

We did use separate numbers though.

And on friday they only work half a day and mondays tend to be their busiest day from what the nurse told me when I went to their office!

  5. Well, really sad for the young guy...does that mean he can leave jail now?

MANILA, Philippines - A Filipino woman who accused a U.S. Marine of rape has altered her testimony and emigrated to the United States, saying she was no longer certain that a crime took place, a lawyer said Wednesday.

The case has strained U.S.-Philippine military relations amid calls for the scrapping of a pact allowing U.S. troops to train Filipino soldiers, and has become a rallying point for anti-American protests.

Three years after Lance Cpl. Daniel Smith was convicted of rape and sentenced to 40 years in jail, his accuser submitted a five-page affidavit to an appeals court Tuesday saying she now doubts her own version of events.

"My conscience continues to bother me realizing that I may have in fact been so friendly and intimate with Daniel Smith ... that he was led to believe that I was amenable to having sex or that we simply just got carried away," the woman said in the statement.

  6. One of my high school friends went to the Moldova/Ukraine region; met a girl there, and had this romance online going for a while. The girl kept asking for items like clothes, perfumes etc. She never asked for money, but my friends radar went on alert when she specifically asked for brand name clothing. The girl was really subtle about it,and at first my friend would dismiss the requests like, 'well, is rough over there to get a job to pay for basic things so i don't mind helping her...' Eventually however, not sure how he woke up, but he realized he was being scammed. So like other members say, is really hard to have one specific tip to spot a scammer out there, but, best to go by common sense, and if you can spend more time to get to know this person in the flesh, then that might be your best indicator.

    Good luck.

  7. Here is an interesting link to read related to this...pay attention towards the bottom of the page where it recommends as to what to do if you're plannning on being employed abroad, such as paying us taxes, having checks deposited into us bank account, etc.

There are certain steps that you can take to ensure that you retain your immigrant status, if you are planning to stay temporarily out of the U.S. One of the most important things you should do is to maintain evidence or proof of your residence in the U.S., or show that you truly intend to reside in the U.S., such as:

    1. File U.S. tax returns.

    2. Maintain a U.S. address (either actual or in care of a relative in the U.S. Merely having a P.O. Box does not show you have a residence in the U.S.)

    3. Make sure you enter the U.S. at least once a year, although the more often you enter and stay in the U.S., the better it is for you.

    4. Maintain a valid U.S. driver’s license.

    5. Keep U.S. stocks and bonds.

    6. Continue to use U.S. credit cards.

    7. Continue any club memberships in the U.S.

    8. In any correspondence, make reference to your temporary assignment abroad.

    9. Maintain bank account in the U.S.

  8. Also, keep in mind that a lot of these doctors will try to make you and do the whole physical and exam again; that's the problem we had. Every single doctor we called would only do the form with the condition of having to go thru all blood tests, physical exam etc. Then we came across Dr. Arnold who for 30 dollars, does the 693 and she does it over the mail....of course don't know the details of your case, but if you just need somebody to transcribe the records and you don't need any of the additional blood work, do a search for dr. arnold. Plenty of posts on the subject.

  10. I remember you had an infopass appt for march 12....

At the infopass, were they able to find your case? You had mentioned you can't pull it online, and is not retrieved by the phone system, so were the clerks there able to pull it up? Because my next question to the forum would be, 'what do you do when your case does not pull up on the computer or on the phone?' Or something similar to that?

Your timeline is similar to ours, and our case appeared right away..

Also, you should do a walk in biometrics appt. It helps to have that done before you get your AP. WE got told that during our call to the USCIS, and another member had mentioned that. So we walked in to our biometrics appt, then after we did that, we applied for the expedited AP, but our case 'showed up'.

  11. Well, believe it or not, a lot of people come in to the usa illegally and they get by without doing any health clearance, whatsoever. Now, for those of us trying to do it the legal way---yea, we get abused....

Anyway, we were running out of time and we didn't send in our 693 when we sent our AOS packet; our reasoning was...lets send this now before is too late and we'll deal with RFE later. So far no RFE yet, but we did get the AP and EAD. And im sure that even if we don't get an RFE, we'll get the 693 question at the interview, so we have that now, and we are holding on to it when is due. And yes, if you read thru the forums, many people sent in their 3025 and no 693 and they got approved. Is all at the dicretion of the USCIS!

  12. I used to work as a nurse long time ago, and yea, when foreign patients tested positive for their PPD, but they had taken the BCG vaccine in their childhood, a couple of the doctors would tell the patients, 'if your xray comes clear, I'll still give you the drug treatment for TB, but you have a greater risk of liver damage taking the pills, than of TB.' The doctors would tell me that if it was them, they wouldn't take the treatment, but if they had to say they took the treatment they would....

But as they would say, do what you think is best..knowing what those doctors told me back then, I would choose 2 and if they ask about the treatment, yep, youre taking it.

the problem with option 2 if they bring it up in interview is that, once i start the treatment, i have to go regularly to the health department for liver tests...they will test whether my liver is still capable to fight the strong antibiotics...if they ask for proof of treatment, i wont have anything coz i havent taken any meds...i am just saying i did!!!

Then do 3. Back in the days, don't remember the patients being monitored; they were asked if they were taken the treatment and to watch for such and such symptoms; then again, treatment must have changed in the last 12 years...

  14. We filed my husband's AOS in Feb 2008 and just got an interview date for 14 mos later. The medical exams are valid for one year, does this mean my husband has to take the medical exams again (this will be his 3rd time)?

Somewhere along the documentation there is a clause that says:

If you were admitted to the United States as a fiance(e) (K-1), child of a fiance(e) (K-2), Spouse of a U.S. citizen (K-3), or child of K-3 (K-4), and received a medical examination prior to admission, then you do not require another medical examination as long as your application for adjustment of status (Form I-485) is filed within one year of your overseas medical examination. You will, however, be required to submit a vaccination supplement with our adjustment of status application. The vaccination supplement must be completed by a designated civil surgeon."

I have searched this topic in the past as we had the same question, and it seems that as long as you file your aos before your medical exam is expired, you should be ok; however, i have read a couple of threads from people that got told they needed to do a medical exam at the interview, so is all in the hands of the clerk that interviews you. We have learned that there are rules and regulations, but you're still 'at the discretion of the USCIS'---in other words, if the clerk is moody that day, good luck! Seriously though, if you filed for AOS before that year was up, then you shouldn't have to repeat the exam. However, I wasn't sure what type of visa you came in, but you might want to do a search in the forums as I have seen this topic in the past....

  15. I have a quick question. How long does it usually take for EAD and AP, (mainly EAD b/c that is the MOST important), to be granted? I sent my husband's AOS paperwork yesterday, so how long after they recieve his paperwork will they begin to process and send us word that his EAD was granted? is that after the biometrics/fingerprinting? If so, how long does that stuff usually take? ... depending on my office does it change the amount of time that it takes? Im sure these are easy/stupid questions, but im worried. My husband needs to work. And we dont want to be held back by papers anymore. We just want to live and be happy without having to worry about papers. :bonk:

Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

Anywhere from 30 to 90 days and even more....you can start pulling up and reviewing timelines of people here and some can get it in as few as 30 days plus, while others take months...
