  1. Don't bother emailing London. Generally, they delete emails unread unless you have the "special" code you can only get from calling their premium rate number (£1.20/min!). You might get lucky if you put your case number in the line, but maybe not. If you really must email them, this is pretty much the only way you can ensure a response (although there are exceptions to this -- some people have gotten lucky in the past with only a case nu,ber). As Tracy said above, calling NVC is your best bet here.

Once you get the case number starting LND2007, you can call the Department of State for MUCH cheaper rates (as it's a regular US long distance call) for updates: 202 663 1225. They have just as much info as the Embassy (generally). Good luck!

I had no problem with the email system at the embassy. I was actually advised by vj menbers to do so, unless there is now a change in their emiling system
  2. Question.... or am I just going crazy (waiting).... but there was another press release dated August 24th...

    http://www.uscis.gov/files/pressrelease/Re...Times082407.pdf

and it says --The actual received date will be honored and recorded on the receipt notice

Now...to fulfill the requirements of the rate increase..... didn't the paperwork **just** have to be postmarked no later than July 28th ?? and not when it was "received" by USCIS ???

    Thanks for any info...

    kelly

I hope it is the postmark that is relevant before the fee increase. I sent mine 26th July and it was not received until the 31st July. I would be so upset if this was not the case as like many others I understood it to be the date of the post mark.
  3. If your petition was approved, there's no point at looking at it online anymore (obviously your case didn't get updated online to show 'approved'). The case is no longer with USCIS - it is sent to the NVC after approval, and then sent to the consulate in London. The online information you used at the petition phase is no longer relevant.

If you have not heard anything since your approval in June, I would have definitely been calling someone by now! But at any rate, you need to figure out where your case is. I would start by calling the NVC and making sure it left there for the consulate. You'll need the case number of your petition, and I'd call either early in the a.m. or late at night. (603) 334-0700. They will be able to give you your 'new' case number, which will now begin with 'LDN'.

If it has indeed been sent to the consulate, then I would phone or email them to get a status.

Processing times at consulates vary - and 'being British' doesn't matter one iota. You're in line with everyone else going through London, or at any step of the process, for that matter. You can get a guesstimate of London processing times from this thread:

Another suggestion might be to email london embassy in my experience they were quick in responding just make sure you write your case number as a subject heading. I've heard phoning is extremely expensive. I waited from the beginning of Nov 06 until Jan until I heard in fact I emailed asking for an update and it was through this email that I learned about my interview on 31st Jan 07. Good Luck
  4. You change update the name via AOS... no additional step

Thanks. So if I understand you correctly, your suggestion is the get the SS Card in the married name after the NOA1 from AOS? or is it after the AOS is completed?

I'm not sure what is best. I had a ssn in my maiden name and now I have one in my married name before sending away my aos. I am still waiting for NOA1 for ead and aos. I know I am not legal to work but at least I have something official identifying me with my change of name.

  5. I don't have the Packet 4 yet, i just read on the US embassy of London website that they will send me that once i recieve the NOA2 is this correct?

Is there anywhere i can download this? I would like to be very well prepared

I don't think you can down load pkt4. It will come soon. Make sure you have police check, birth certificate, divorce and marriage certificate if applicable and evidence of your relationship. In fact if you have packet3 it tells you the same as pkt4 and gives you a tick list of everything you need and it is only when you have all the required documents should you send packet 3 back to the embassy ( not documents, you take them with you to your interview )

  6. Thanks for all the help everyone! I have heard that it is easier and faster to get a card before you get married? Is this true and if it is...why? If she does get it before we get married how hard is it to change to her married name?

    Thanks again :)

    reach449

I applied for my ssn 2 weeks after arrival. I received ssn 10 later. Once married I changed my card to my married name and received new card 10 days later. For me it was an easy experience, just take your marriage certificate with you.
  7. My aos and ead was received on 7/31 and like many others I am still waiting on my NOA or what seems like biometric interview. Reading through the forums I can see that I didn't send I- 693a form with my aos documents. I did send a copy of the vaccination documentation sheet that I received in London during my medical exam. I hope they will just ask for RFE. I feel stupid and slightly worried that I missed this. Can anyone reaaure me, thanks- Karen

  8. What do i have to take with me to my interview at the US consulate in London?

we have been waiting just over 4 months, and the thought of been interrogated or somethng at my interview is already worrying me alot, so id like to be well prepared for it.

I had my interview in London for K1 visa in January. I am writing under my husbands name in this reply but you can see my experience under kax. it does seem daunting but it really was not too bad. Take everything they ask for in packet 4 and you should be ok. Good luck

  9. Hi August filers!

I'm hoping to be an August filer as well. That is provided USPS delivers my package... I sent it on 7/25 Priority with Signature Confirmation and it hasn't been delivered yet. I'm slowly starting to freak out!!! What's going on???? It was postmarked before 7/30, but how would I prove it if USPS loses it? I made sure to mail it well before the cutoff date and now what? Will I end up paying higher fees if I have to mail it all again?

Sorry about that, I just wanted to vent. I'm really worried... :(

Good luck to everybody you there!

Do you have a tracking number? If so check online where it is.

If you are still waiting for the confirmation paper they send back, don't worry that takes a while.

If you can't see anything, just take whatever you have about your package, go to the post office and ask them to track it for you. And don't worry it's usps postmark, they'll know you sent it on time.

Hi we sent our aos and ead on the 7/26. We have not heard anything either but having read your post I tracked my package at usps I now know that our package was delivered on 7/31. I hope when you check you will se your package has been delivered. Good Luck.

  10. i hope i have added everybody oh yeah and please provide the date on the NOA1 rather than when you received it ... thank you!

hhahahahahahahahaa oh well Sir we kind of doing the same thing at the same time ... LMAO!

I guess we could be added to your list we sent Karen's aos on Thursday.

  11. Chicago as indicated in the I-485 directions, and I-765 states to send it to the same place you sent the I-485, so again Chicago.

The AOS guide also says Chicago:

    Where to File Everything:

Applicants are required to mail applications to a national mailbox (Chicago) as stated on the form (not your local USCIS office). The only case in which you may file at a local office is for the following locations: Dallas District Office, El Paso District Office, and the Oklahoma City Sub Office. Please read this notice if your local USCIS office is any of these locations.

Thanks. I did read chicago but I guess I just needed to check again. Sometimes in this process it is so easy to doubt yourself

  12. Hi, my wife and I are completing AOS application. However I have a question regarding affidavit of support. Due to extensive travelling including being with my then fiancee in her home country Scotland for 16 months I have not submitted tax returns. On my return to the U.S I worked on renovating my parents house. Once the house is complete they are selling it and will compensate me for my work. My father is our co sponser and easily meets the poverty line. Is me having no tax returns going to be a problem
