    Hi guys!

I received an email from the NVC on the 17th, that they will now forward the petition to the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine. This is what I see when I checked the status of the application on the CEAC tracker.

What does this mean for me? What is the next step? I don't think my fiancé has received any correspondence form the Embassy yet, but is there anything productive we can do until she hears from them?

    Thank you!

Looks like same thing happened you to guys...no NOA2. You guys can start hitting the website to check for interview dates!!! woohoo!!! Since you already have #3...you can skip to #5. Careful on the interview appointment page login, i remember it locking me out because of too many attempts. For us i remember about 8-9am EST time is when i was able to get the appointment to show up. I would suggest she hits the site once or twice in the morning when she wakes up and then you do the same next day...rinse and repeat.  One thing i want to add this journey and you don't need to remember this until she comes to the US...BUT very very important....after being here for 2 weeks, go to the Social Security Office and get a SS card. Do not forget this part...i screwed this part up and she's been here for going on 10 months....still no SS card. Can't do my taxes, can send her to school, can't get drivers license....SMH. Couple days after she lands make an appointment for 1-2 weeks out for the SS. Let me know if you have any questions!

This is what I am going to base my steps upon.  Granted this was almost a year ago.

I screwed this part up by not getting her applied for a SSN when she got here. Now her Visa has expired and they told me the only option I have now is when i filled out her EAD ( i think it's on that one) "if you haven't filled out for a SSN, would you like us to apply for one for you, mark yes"....i had to do that and now i'm sitting with a finished tax form but i can't submit it because now i'm waiting for them to send us a SSN, which i'm assuming is coming WITH the EAD...which according to others timeline could be another 7 months....I've been waiting so far for 4 months. I think most people wait 2 weeks after they get to the US and then go in and apply and i've heard that 2 weeks before the expiration on your passport is the cut off time for the SSN office to allow for one to be applied for.

Maybe, depends on your bank and insurer, but eventually I'm going to have to file a federal income tax return with married status and I'm going to need to put something down for my spouse's SSN, right ?

Would it be easier to get an ITIN from IRS instead ?  She will probably never work in the US.  I'm looking into SSA offices and they all seem to be "phone service only"

I wanted to say, this thread helps me tremendously.  I am actually the US petitioner (Fiance sp?) and have been combing these forums all day.  My fiance and I have been trying to keep ourselves busy, even though I am not even to the NOA1 step.  I do not know what Kyiv Embassy will be like from August to the end of the year, but again this particular thread gives me hope.  Also, I was concerned about questions the Embassy would ask her.  She has been through poly tests with the jobs she had, but the most recent one had her all flustered.  It will be nice to reassure her during my next visit and help her prepare.

Thanks again everyone for the questions and answers.  Extremely informative.

Were you wondering what questions Kiev was asking? We did our interview in October. One thing i can say that most failed that day was requesting the extension of your I-129F form. Not sure if you've already read this but I"ll mention it again.

Prior to your interview ( i did it 2-3 weeks before our scheduled interview) Send Kyiviv@state.gov and email saying. " To whom it may .....   I would please like to extend my I-129f expiration date. And then list your information like Case Number /USCIS Number and both your names.

As mentioned above, the marriage certificate is a legal name change document. My wife and I kept her name the same to make forms and everything easier ( No need to change passport, state ID, SS card, name on bank account, credit cards, etc.) But do what you want to do, other than mentioning her maiden name as another name used on most of the documents it isn't that difficult on the I-485 forms, it is all the other things you have to update besides immigration.

Thank you! Since she doesn't have any of the above (minus the passport), i figured at the very least we can just keep her last name throughout the process and at the end just submit name change for passport and SS card.

What a rollercoaster ride! I went for Interview 18th, was refused because I stupidly (and trust me I really beat myself up on this one) sent in an older version of the AOS that had a blank for one question, (one question!) but was told to just submit that via email. I was prepared to wait at least 2 weeks! Next day, it was in AP, and within the day, ISSUED! and two days later, ready for collection. How incredible! I have my passport in hand and the relief is worth it.

    congrats!!!!

What way did she answer like nooo of course I am not

she said  " Of course not!"

1 of the 3 girls i mentioned which she is friends now actually started to give smart remark about these questions and we think this is why they decided to add a new rule for her approval for more police records to be collected and initially denied her.

I just spoke to her and i made a mistake...The suicide question and pregnant questions was only at medical exam.

What questions do they ask at interview?

    1. name of fiancé in america

    2. where does he work and what does he do

    3. what do you love/hate about him

    4. if you get into argument what will be the procedure to rectify the situation.

    5. are you a prostitue

    6. are you pregnant.

    7. do you want to be a prostitue in america

    8. Do you have thoughts of suicide

    9. Name all immediate family members in his family

    10. what is his birthday

    11. What dates did you meet him in person?

    12. Why after dating just over 1 year do you feel like you already want to marry him?

    13. (Trick Question) Do you know your fiancé has children? ( i do not but they wanted to see what she would say)

    14. (trick Question ) do you know your fiancé was married twice before ( i have never been married)

    15. Do you want to have children with your fiancé?

    16. what will you do in America?

They spent over 45 min looking over my (american) financial paperwork with a fine tooth comb. They asked her a lot of questions from that but i can't remember what they were/nor does she. (was a real stressful day for her). Interview was almost 3 hours long start to finish.

No I know it valid for 2 months I got a letter from embassy that I can start to gather documents but still can't schedule an interview so it will be in outime though waiting is so long

For us in Ukraine her medical exam expires after 6 months..so right now her VISA for entry expires April 10th 2021. If COVID shuts down the country again and she can't get a flight till after this, then we will have to go another medical exam and go back to the embassy for visa/passport renewal of expiration.

I wonder if they stopped processing visas in Kiev... I have been trying to schedule an appointment for such a long time now... Every day I try there is this notice ''no dates available for the appointment''....Such a frustration! Why don't they create a queue or something because now it is a bit unfair that anybody who is fast or lucky can schedule the appointment and it doesn't matter if you had your case approved in July or a month ago...:(

Cinnamon Toast, did you say that you had a notice about available dates on the main page as soon as you logged in? Did you have this notice on the main page or after you clicked ''continue'' ? It seems that you can't check the calendar page often but it is possible to check the main front page often...that's what I am trying to do  hoping to see that notice without clicking ''continue'' in order not to be blocked.

UGGGH that's sucks if they did. :( i'm attaching a picture of where you will see the notice immediately after logging into that site. The notice shows up in that red box area.

I am preparing documents for interview and took looking at AOS so I can print stuff together. I cannot for the life of me find the updated I-485! Apparently the only I-485 on USCIS is expired?

Maybe better just  to write to embassy and find out about extending. In here it's more complicated because we have to go to Poland and apply for a visa so you can stay in there for just a couple of days

I would yeah...it's super fast to just an email and have that base covered. I might be wrong but in general the 129F does have a formal expiration date of 4 month from the date of approval by USCIS...with all countries. Maybe some countries will just overlook that because the pandemic has paused or slowed most of the visa operations.

I think it's not true you will be rejected in visa if you don't write to extend your petition. We have our petition expired July 7th 2020 we emailed to embassy in Poland ( I am from Belarus) and they told to send intend to marry letter signed, after we sent they just told to take this intend to marry on the interview, I have not heard about denied in visa because of not writing them

I actually sent in our intent letter with my original 129f package signed and notarized (i got that idea from a friend of mine would married his Russian wife) so they already had that for our packet.

We actually found out about the extension requirement when she called the embassy to get her CASE number, the woman said "hey did you know your form is expired and it will be a problem at interview". I also never heard of an interview being denied at this point because of an expired 129F form...i actually didn't even know the 129F form expired! lol but speaking from more experience about the extension, She met 3 girls (which now are friends of hers and we will be visiting them in the states) at the medical exam all interviews between Oct and Nov, all 3 were not given approval simply because the 129F was expired(all three of them walked out with the RED letter), 1 of them needed more than just that.. They were told to send an email to the embassy wishing to extend the 129F form. After they got home that day they informed their American counterpart to email the embassy and after writing a quick 2 sentence email they both got their passport in the mail about 15 days later with the approval( for just 2 of the girls), 3rd one still had more information they were reviewing...I think she got an official 221G. Maybe they're only being strict about the extension of the 129F in Kyiv.

They day of her interview she saw about 8-9 people getting interviewed and herself and one other woman were the only approvals...the rest all walked out with RED letters. Maybe the approval process is tougher in Kyiv? When i spoke to my buddy that married his Russian wife, he said nearly everyone was walking out approved with their passport in hands, some people even leaving that day to their fiancé destination.

  15. Anybody have experience with *possible* expired visa? Situation:

Visa approved now - expiration April 2021...i know it's 6 months from now but looking for info

Trying to get her on a flight hopefully before December but people talking about country is going back into lockdown including Public transportation and Flights.

What if Covid shuts everything down passed April?

    1. Do we have to start the process over again?

    2. is there some special form we have to fill out and go back through the embassy and interview process to get it extended? Is it difficult?

    3. does she have to do another medical Exam?

    Thank you!
