  1. My wife has been in the States with me for almost three months now, and she's learning English on the fly. She is Belgian, and her mother tongue is German.

She is a very good driver and a Belgian international DL holder, but my understanding is that her Belgian license is not valid for the long term here in Ohio. We both want her to get her American license as soon as she can, but her English is not good enough to take the exam yet. I don't believe the written exams are available in German. Has anybody had this issue, and possibly a solution?

    Thanks for any help.

  2. Hi all, I'm currently trying to reassure my wife that we can travel to the US. We just finished DCF with exceptional circumstances here in belgium. She has her visa and immigration package to give up at customs. She's still worried about the travel ban to the US. We fly on the 8th of January, but she's still worried about the ban being extended.

I travelled to the US for work in August and had no problems, and no covid test was required either. I met a few permanent residents in the line at border control, so I know it's not just US citizens they're letting in.

Even if the ban is extended, they won't turn away someone with a valid CR-1 , visa, will they? Anybody had a recent experience immigrating to the US from europe during the travel ban?

    Thanks,

    Caleb

  3. Well, y'all were right. They did need the co sponsor after all. That confuses me even more, because I asked the Visa officer specifically and repeatedly about using my Belgian income to sponsor Saskia. Good thing we played it safe. Thanks for the input and the impetus to err on the side of caution.

p.s. Visa came in the mail today (Thursday), two days after Saskia's interview on Tuesday.  I'm astounded.

  4. Hi all,

I'm filling out the I-864 form for my wife here in belgium, and have a question regarding how income is determined and compared to the poverty gudelines. I make enough to sponsor my wife, and will be bringing pay stubs to back up my claim. However, I noted that the I-864 asks for my adjusted gross income, which is NOT above the poverty gudeline because I live and work in Belgium and do not earn enough to declare any taxable income in the US. Has anybody had a similar experience?

    Thanks,

    Caleb
