  1. In Tebow's defense, his receivers dropped some gimmee's ...I mean he landed it right in their hands and they dropped it. I saw that on four different occasions yesterday. If not for the dropped passes he would have had close to 300 yard passing yesterday.

Now if god has it in for anyone, I would say Tony Romo is at the top of that list. That guy can't buy a break.

I don't know how Tony Romo gets lumped into that class of elite quarterbacks, because he isn't, and never was. He had a couple 300 yard games 5 years ago, and people started speculating that he could be the next Tom Brady, so he got a massive contract. He has an elite player paycheck, but he has never really lived up to it.

The Broncos traded away their best receiver, although, he was considered a cancer in the lockeroom, so who knows the total effect of that trade.

  2. Agree with that. Lowes crossed the line by yanking those commercials and chances are they will be taken to court. How they fair in court is anyone's guess.

What are they going to court on? I dont' see anything in the OP that says anything about that.

I'm sure Lowes knows what is at stake by ending the advertising campaign. They know full well that they make more money off the fundamentalist christian segment. This was a business decision, not a bigoted one. If the show had received through the roof ratings, I think they probably would have sung a different toon in response to the protests.

  3. Complaining is anyones right.... sawing off heads and slitting throats gets to be a bit much.

I think one major subject that I don't think can be reconciled is our penchant for lampooning political and religious subjects. In this day and age, nothing is off limits, no matter how much it enrages others. While I think mockery is not good for fostering discourse, the first amendment is practically sacrosanct.

  4. Come on now.... you said this churches behavior is something the federal government is trying to "discourage".

Can you be a little more specific, what are these social things the Federal Government is using the tax to to discourage and where can I get the list?

Danno, you are a bald-faced liar. Just because you misunderstood my post, that is no excuse for making up lies. I suggest you reread what I posted if you actually care to discuss this further.

  5. Oddly enough this is a (Anything goes) Lutheran Church.

Had he been exploring Homosexuality it would have been fine but SMOKING!!!!! OMG.

Maybe it was an Asian thing more than church orientated?

DO any Asian communities have assigned Neighborhood disciplinarians for the kids?

I suppose in your warped mindset, the beating was justified, simply because the kid could possibly be gay.

  6. And if you want to live in a society that allows anyone to carry firearms and NEVER has shootouts, move to Vermont. Better food than Somalia too.

Gary, the irony is that if enough people took up that offer and moved to vermont, then you'd actually have urban centers and faced with the same problems that states and cities that have a population higher than a PTA meeting would be faced with.

  7. Dude, I specialize in sarcasm.

A comment added is simply that.

    B-)

Danno, come on now, you specialize in vitriol and bigotry, not sarcasm.

ETA: Regarding Tebow's performance, I didn't see the game, but somehow, they found a way to win. I don't think god or any other science fiction character had anything to do with it. They will win the division, because the Raiders are imploding and have a difficult schedule, while Denver, is afforded a last place schedule, due to last years poor performance. We shall see how effective he is playing higher skilled teams in the playoffs.

  8. I can't speak for everyone but I generally hope I never have to kill anyone. What I lust for is a society that accepts normal people killing bad people when they do bad things. If we had that very simple principle ingrained in us from birth there'd be less crime and violence.

You can't even get into a fist-fight anymore at a bar. What kind of society is that?

BS. The goal of law enforcement is to make people feel safe.

One of the biggest misconceptions about the wild west was the number of shootouts. There were far fewer than we have today.

Part of that reason is, as law enforcement suggests, you don't kill someone unless they threaten you. When everyone has a gun, hardly anyone is threatened because a threat carries serious weight - and serious repurcussions. In todays society, you can threaten someone all day long and typically don't even get called on it until someone with a gun shows up to do so.

I think this is a fundamental divergence Slim. For a lot of liberals, that statement comes off as flippant, and callous. I can see your point, I just don't agree. I don't think that killing other people should be acceptable. Even when someone like Richard Ramirez or John Wayne Gacy is put to death, it's not something that should be celebrated.

I also think you are wrong about law enforcement. Their goal is to protect and serve. I suppose that is up to individual interpretation, but when it comes down to it, they try and protect the lives (and property) of the people under their charge.

  9. oh look, another left-wing nutbar has joined the political group here.

Have you met Steven, yet? I'm sure you'll be best friends!

Said the hyperpartisan who thinks education equals brainwashing. You are far more acerbic and prone to hyperbole.

It's a beautiful thing when a Left-winger spits and sputters all over himself in an opinion piece ... and end up saying nothing.

Much like when you post anti-gay or anti-black opinion pieces from Newsmax or some other far right sources?

  10. Wouldn't you love that.

That picture that you posted of him in the OP, does look a bit like he is though. I'm sure he isn't, but that pic doesn't help.

I didn't think he would make it this long with the numbers he was putting up, but he threw for over 200 yards against the Viks last Sunday in Minnesota with two TD passes, no INT's and a QB rating of 150. He's making progress...it's slow but he's starting to get there.

Yes, he has been making strides each week. But there are two important points I think. First, he is playing in a gimmick offense. Just like the wildcat, and the speed/triple option, they were very succesful in college, because there is much more disparity in talent, and had some success in the NFL. Until it became an entire offense for a few teams, and defensive coordinators were forced to focus on it and come up with schemes to shut it down, which they did very succesfully. I think that will happen by the time the playoffs roll around. Secondly, he hasn't beaten any notable teams. Most of the teams they have beaten were with awesome defense (Von Miller is an absolute beast). The jury is still out, and I thing with the way the Raiders have imploded, Denver has a really good chance of making the playoffs. So we'll get to see how succesful he is against real teams.

I beg to differ...he plays old school smashmouth football. Ball control.

You may not be familiar with football, but the read option is a new offense. Yes they run the ball 75% of the time, but it's hardly what you would consider old school smashmouth football.

  11. I believe in a persons absolute right to protect themselves. What I don't understand is this bloodlust that you people seem to have in situations like this. The way you speak of it, it almost seems like you fantasize about situations like this, the opportunity to legally kill someone.

Gary, did you happen to hear in the call, where the 911 Operator told the woman not to shot that POS?

Like she was just going to wait there to become the victim. Amazing how in CA., a self defense shooting in your own home needs to be cleared by the DA before one is free from prosecution.

The goal of law enforcement is to preserve lives, not advocate killing (don't mistake that for suggesting murder). I have not heard the tape, nor have I read the story (thanks Gary for mentioning an news story, but not providing at least a link), but unless the person was in imminent danger, that would seem like the correct course of action. Furthermore, you will generally won't hear law enforcement, on any level advocate that you kill someone, unless your life is in immediate danger. If you want to live in a society that allows you to carry any firearm, and regular wild west shootouts, I suggest you move to Somalia.

  12. Bullets are way cheaper than boat rides.

Ever heard of Georgia? How about Australia?

I think capital punishment should be reserved only for those who are a danger to society.

I hear that antarctica needs to be populated....

There you go, creative thinking! We can chuck all the wife beaters and murderers down there!

  13. it's actually more fiscally responsible to just shoot them and then burn them....

Escape from LA and Escape from NY come to mind.

    Movies give us great ideas!

Australia.... real life gives even better ones. It would only be more fiscally responsible if you denied them due process and just skipped to the punishment phase.
