Yup you're correct. Actually even those that paperfile all of them go to the nbc first and they review your docs and then organize them in the style the uscis likes. Then once you do your biometrics and your name was clear that's when they send it to your local field office for review. I paper filled mine and that's the path i'm in.

But yeah just for trivia, this is also the same process for a green card aos and i think roc too (sorry didn't do roc so not sure of the roc). Its also where the ead and ap are done. I guess since you can consider the ead, ap, gc all benefits in america so its why they call it national benefits center vs. The nvc (national visa center) where the k1 and other visas are processed.

I believe all n400 applications filed online go to the NBC first for "processing" and then sent to the local field office after. I filed mined on August and it is being processed at the NBC as well.

You should be able to get your completed n400 form from the documents tab (edit: in your myuscis account). There should be a link called "view case snapshot."

    So there's these 2 websites.

The old one is the one that always updates for me super quickly right as the action is being done. It's also linked to the uscis app. This has been the case for me since my k1 fiance visa and my aos. All you need is your case number to create your account and check your account status there.

    https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do

The new website is the one that consistently has been much slower in updating the case ever since my k1 fiance visa days and aos. But from what i understand is if you file your n400 online this is the website that you file it in. You cannot make an account without that 1 time activation code to add your case to your account. And this website always has a 2 step verification process.

    https://my.uscis.gov/

Side note: they updated my new uscis website status. But it took many many hours. Sometimes they update a day or few days later. So in my case i always just check both since they're both useful information..

Hi, I got my biometrics reuse notice on Sept 4 (online) as well. Did your case status change in your uscis online account? Mine is still "We received your application" with "We are taking longer than expected..." in the estimated wait time.

In my case, there was no change made in the estimated wait time from the case status but still showed "taking longer than expected..." even after the biometrics reuse notice. Later the case status was updated when the interview was scheduled and the estimated waiting time disappeared.
